- We learned the hard way that you CANNOT cook an old layer chicken the same way you would cook a broiler from the grocery store. Watch to learn how to cook your old chickens. Not only does this free-up coop space for new hens coming in the next year, but it gives you a delicious chicken dinner!
If you are in the market for an Instantpot, this is one I am using in this video.

I AM SO THANKFUL for this video!!
We're new at raising chickens for meat. We've raised Orrington, various Rocks, Rd Is Reds, Susexs, etc. .. All for eggs.
But now we're trying to find the right breed for duel purposes, but I just haven't been thrilled with the toughness of the hens.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! For showing how & what I need to do.
I also appreciate you getting right down to the information.
Yes, we made the mistake once of roasting and trying to eat an old chicken … inedible!
Is not inedible, it’s meats are already so hard, tough and rubbery ya! It’s not for roasting or grilling at all!
Thank you for sharing! This gave me the push I need to just jump in and do it!
appreciate the information, great video. I knew it would have to be stewed longer but 24 hours wow
well....I keep them even after they stop. Love my girls and boys. Recently a weasel got into my coop and killed 13 of 17 chickens....I won't eat them either...that's just me.
I'm sorry about your chickens. That is perfectly valid. I think sometimes people don't think much about this question before getting hens.
sorry about the weasel
Thank you, great tips as always🙂
Thanks :)
