But I mostly agree. But if it's indie, I get the reason. Some of the best games have come out like this. If you're a multi-million dollar company, there is NO fucking reason on earth to bring out buggy pieces of shit.
The scariest aspect of the shroud is how it turned an ENTIRE OCEAN into mycelium. Now, instead of getting an awesome coastal vista, you're greeted with a sea of red death.
We have been calling it the "nope water" 😅
I'm surprised the video didn't mention this, or that all formerly open water including lakes, rivers, streams is now the deadliest stuff in the game.

They should let us find Igni the rat preserved to this day somewhere and keep as a pet or another npc. Maybe the flame soul allowed for it to speak, then the rat will explain how it woke up and watched from the inside of the vessel people fight for decades and learned martial arts and became Splinter xDDDD
I need to be able to play as Igni, if he's flame born too then that means he's protected by the flame just like us and can venture into the shroud.

The red shroud on the ground is actually the water, it was the first thing infected when the ancients found it. The notes show that the shroud started in the Kindlewastes, and if you find the notes at the dam in the Kindlewastes, it says that the water dried up first (apparently long enough ago that there were "legends" about what caused it when they asked the natives, one of the couple of stories/theories they had about it) and one of the things that was mentioned was that a world ending cataclysm started up stream and stopped the water. Since the dam was built by the ancients, with the ancients building style, we can assume that it was the first time the shroud was discovered, before it was sealed away. If you look at all the red shroud on the ground out in the world, its in river beds, and around the docks in the city, with boats sitting on top of it, as well as a waterfall just east of the starting point, that is covered over with red shroud, which is why you never find standing water anywhere in the world, it all comes from wells. Also, if you go to the big walls/doors you can't get past in a few parts of the map, as well as the dam, the shroud outside those areas, off the edge of the map, is still red glowing shroud (like it is before you upgrade your flame enough times) and appears to be all the way up to the top of the wall, so maybe those were erected to keep the shroud from completely covering Embervale, or the shroud is worse outside the walls.
One thing we don't see is who is the Mysterious Wanderer? At that time, only the Ancients knew about the Elixir/Shroud, but the Wanderer knew about it, how to get it, and gave it to humanity with that knowledge. I think part of it, that you didn't cover, was the obelisks. The obelisks are from the perspective of the Ancients, and talks about the shroud, the flame abating it, and a schism in the ranks of the Ancients on how they should behave, and interact with humans and other creatures, throwing off the previous tenants that they lived by, of being observers, and hints at maybe a revolution, or uprising, or internal conflict of some sort.
Honestly, I'm 30hrs into the game and one thing that annoys me is the Queen's Tomb doesn't seem very Queen like. It's just so bland.
Consider that the queen was on the road with a caravan of refugees. I don't think they cared much for aesthetics in the middle of the apocalypse. Poetic, really, that a monarch be buried like a commoner in the end of times.

From what I understand, the Shroud didn't turn everyone into a Fell. Sometimes it just drove people mad and violent, hence, the Scavangers. They ARE turned by the shroud, they just didn't become full Fell.
I think the Shroud turns people and creatures into the Fell. The Elixir, most assuredly when abused, turn people into the crazed Scavengers.

More than 100 hours later, second character, I just can't stop playing this...
Slight correction -we've completed a chapter. Maybe two or more. I've been North (to the Dev-imposed line), there is no Shroud in the mountains. Couple of questions - 1) Why didn't folks cap the mines? 2) How long have we been in stasis? I see at least three distinct types of architecture. (Granted, may be artistic license on the part of the Devs). 3) What was the genesis behind our awakening? 4) What caused the shroud to abate?
These are all very great questions and I'll continue to explore the story as the devs release more for us to go on :)
1. Probably due to fear of digging deep and finding more shroud.
2. Great question, most of the ruined buildings are made of wood and stone, which begin to deteriorate between50-100 years. They have not completely collapsed, so we can guess its somewhere around that time.
3. I have no clue.
4. I don't think the shroud abated, it seems more like the shroud is still expanding. Now that I think about it, there might be a connection between the shroud and the flame, and it starting to effect Longkeep could be what caused the flame to awaken you.
@@joselazo9799 2. Fungi has the ability to digest most of organic material, so it might not as long as 100 years.
3. The pot just finished cooking fire soul in to the body.
What caused the shroud to abate?
honestly it seems like the shroud is still expanding we can see by the red roots or whatever is called that fungi red tree that are outside the elixir wells they obviously spread the shroud, and probably just existed in the wells but since a lot of time has passed we can see some of them outside.
Why didn't folks cap the mines?
my line of thinking is that the elixir became a type of drug which caused more wells to be dug probably in a bit of the fungus controlling humans that eventually would become the Fell,
when the war strikes in it could be too late to cover the wells since the Enshrouded could already be at the top
but is all speculation

All i hope for in the future is that we get the chance to establish strongholds or communities maybe with ancients and humans or of each. this game needs that. and that we can do quests or politics to ensure they build their settlements up with defences and infrastructure and maybe that happens in a sims style fashion
It would be nice to find living and breathing npc factions at still closed areas. Working reputation/politic system with possibility to affect it with side quests.

In theory, Balthazar could still be alive in a cinder vessel somewhere. They certainly hint at it with the notes anyhow. Would be interesting to find an actual village somewhere in the future (future update that is) that was left untouched by the Shroud, that is at least somewhat occupied by npc's.
I gotta say, if more games had this overview and depth, they would be as epic as this one is and will be.
only 50 hours to beat it all? christ I am at 163 hours and i just got the black cauldron. dont even have iron or bronze yet >.>
It also took basically exactly 60hours to finish the game solo.

Been playing since the release. Here's a few bugs I hope they fix.
1) If you play with anyone else, you can't share quests so even if you go after the same item, you'll have to do it twice as the chest will only give 1 player the item.
2) There are locations around the map that will completely delete your flame shrine & everything around it so be very careful about placement.
3) there are quests that will not show up on your map & you either have to run around blindly or look it up on YT.
For the most part the game is pretty fun to play by yourself or with others.
Still hope they have better character customization at some point, with the addition of playable fantasy races (elves, vampires, dwarves, ect.). Playing a vampire would be so cool in this game! It's night most of the time anyway. I think a vampire exploring the Shroud and uncovering all of the mysteries surrounding it would be AWESOME! Have coffins you can craft as well as sleep in, a feeding animation or option for friends (totally voluntary), or have it to where you gather blood from creatures instead of food, maybe a new skill tree (blood magic, or necromancy, maybe turn into a cloud of bats or mist during 'glide.' Oh, the possibilities. I would totally make the Necropolis my vampire lair! 😈

The symbolism of the Bronze texture is in representation of how Birkland Currents interconnect all the Stars in the known Universe. Its one of the theories behind dark energy. Serpents and Dragons have been used by the Ancients to represent the Frequencies of Birkeland currents that is responsible for all life as we know it and can destroy all life as we know it. Kind makes me wonder just how much the programmers of this game really know about reality. Pretty funny story.
There's also a merchant named in the Kindlewastes who discovered elixir and tried to get people to come and get it. May or may not be the same person as the wanderer. I can't remember the merchant's name, but it's something you can read next to an elixir well.
The lore is pretty cool. I liked finding notes. But it was unclear to me the approximate amount of time in years to think through

We've been playing it and honestly it's amazing. And most amazingly, the story itself is amazing lol. The writing and character development of the NPCs is beautiful, and not overdone or tedious like other game lore usually is.

I have 100 hours in the game and I want more! This is great coverage of the story and really put things in perspective as you generally get fragmented parts as you play the game. "I'll read that later" never needs to come now that I know the story :P

If you ever go back to the game and revisit the story, there are pieces of a diary left by one of the ancients spread around the world that you missed, in te video at least, and the desert contains hints about the the first or previous appearance of the shorud and even of a whole different planet, or maybe the moon, it's all vague, but it's there.
I am enthralled with enshrouded. There so much to do, it can be overwhelming.
Enshrouded has been amazing so far. We have a group of 6 with a core of 4 that meet almost nightly to play. We're super impressed with it so far. We can't wait to see what's next and what they'll add all the way up to the official release of the full game.

hey, here’s something they might consider that make some sense that they could choose to do, bear with me. You know how in our world we can create things to get rid of fungal infection for example athletes foot. maybe they could add a way to discover something with antifungal properties. It wouldn’t be powerful enough to get rid of the shroud completely, but could purify areas of land or stop the spread of the shroud if they choose to add the spreading mechanic, it could even be strong enough to kill certain creatures, but it would have to take a lot of work to get to that point.

Hoping that by the end of the game, we find a small settlement of survivors to start a new world with. Would be a good ending.
I could be mistaken - I read each lore page as I came across them, but haven't yet sat down and read them in succession - but wasn't Vorgoth like a commander of Gormander or something who went rogue and started a civil war? I don't remember seeing a page detailing his relationship to Queen Jezma. But I may have missed it.
I just seem to remember a lot of pages from soldiers and the like saying Vorgoth was a reasonable commander until the shroud rot his mind.
I never saw those notes! I'll admit, I didn't collect all of them, only about 90% so I don't have the full picture. Will make a follow up video if they update the game and its lore

Another cool lore bit I'm surprised you didn't cover was the Wanderer himself. There isn't a TON of info on him that I found, but a lot of the end-game areas hidden in the level 6 shroud areas seem to have notes about him or written by him. I think they even give his name...Melor or something starting with an M? There's a Flame Shrine near The Grim where he details his fall from grace. Pretty cool stuff. Anyhow, thanks for the vid. Love this game.

@@MetalMonkey1453 Manathor is the oldest of the ancients who is definitely not the mysterious wanderer. Manathor precedes all of that. He built the obelisks and inscribed lore that the video doesn't go over on them.

The Shroud infected and consumed the water, hence why water is a scarce resource, droughts and the reason its limited to low lying valleys and ocean fronts.
The Mist meets Last of Us
Fantasy Command and Conquer, replace tiberium with shroud, mysterious stranger that gave them elixir was clearly Kane.
You left out the part about the sorceress who became the fell monstrosity, and the peaceful aquatic creature who became the fell wispwyvern. Otherwise it's a great synopsis of the story so far. The current map is a little less than half of the full map, so I'm sure there are many stories ahead.
After level 25 things quickly thin out of what to do. No more quests it just dies.
Enshrouded has been a wonderful, frustrating experience for my girlfriend and I. On the pro side, the building system and beauty of the world are incredible, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for this title. On the negative side, and it's a big negative, the difficulty can be extreme...Dark Souls/Elden Ring level of difficulty at times...and my girlfriend is no slouch at difficult gaming...far better than I am. We ended up getting a mod that gives you unlimited skill points and level 25 gear, and it's still quite difficult.
the simpliest way to make the fights easier is to acknowledge most enemies weaknesses, like most aren't able to fight above themselves or jump up on different things. I started using high-ground early with both wands and bows to clear most areas with those annoying greenish scavangers for example. Some bosses are pretty easy by using pickaxe to climb up on higher grounds like sandpillars or breaking into towers
