@@moonglorias5 that quote was originally misinterpreted to mean "my sons will save me", of course we know now that he was warning of the coming retribution at the hands of his sons xD
Stirs my blood every time I hear it spoken. Travis Fimmel executed that scene with absolute perfection.
Shield maidens were a real thing my brothers. Norse society were one of the few ancient societies that allowed women to participate in anything aside from giving birth and cooking meals. Numerous mentions of high preiestes, shield maidens, and female jarl's or regional leaders.
Hell yeah!!!! ….. Or should I say Valhalla Yeah!!!!!
So real history, the only other society that trained their women for combat were the samurai. A samurai wife or daughter was expected to defend the home as viciously as their husband/father. Norse women carries their weight, and then some.
In ancient Ireland women fought in battle alongside the men. They were to be greatly feared and no mistake.

@Berserking Bishop there's a whole bunch of women warriors in the nordic text along with several goddesses that were bad ass. People wouldn't be worshipping bad ass goddesses if women didn't at least exert some resemblance of merits.
It's all about the Walkyries profil...
Um viking women had much more rights then women if their time. They were in charge of the home when the men went Viking. They were also trained to fight to protect the land.
This song should've been called something like "The Valkyries Have Come" or "Coming of the Valkyries."

I can imagine this song going through Yasha from Critical Role's head as she flies into battle, the Valkyrie in the video even looks like Yasha.
