- THEY DID IT AGAIN! OREGON has engineered a new saw chain chassis that is designed specifically to maximize the performance of a battery powered chainsaw - it is called the SpeedCut Nano and will be released on their newest limbing chainsaw - The OREGON CS325. Let's test it out in the forest and see how well it performs! Cheers!
A big thanks to the team at Oregon Outdoor Products for providing me the CS325 Battery driven chainsaw to test out today. www.oregonprod...

💥 Those electric saws have come a long ways. Great vid Gord!
*Keep on tractoring!*
Thanks Jon! Enjoy your weekend out there!
Wow! The difference is stark, for sure. Good demo G.P. I bet Oregon is watching right now and grinning from ear to ear.
I am impressed with that saw...
Nice saw Gord, it just don't seem the same without that gas chainsaw sound. Have a happy and safe May 24 weekend. All the best.
You too Wayne! Let's hope we get some nice weather.
GP, Sheesh dem bugs !!!! Great to have a saw like that to get the job done quicker and outta those woods! I'm impressed!
Morning John!
Looks like the real deal!
GP: That was impressive! We have two Stihl battery powered saws. That James our climber, uses to limb out a 1/3 acre group of trees at a time. Before we push them over with the JD 60G excavator. The usable limb are processed and sold to firewood pellet plant near by.
I have an inexpensive gas chainsaw that we use for small jobs around the place and it works ok. That little battery powered saw looks like it would do everything I need without the hassle of a cheap gas saw.
Sounds like that will revolutionize the electric saw industry.
looking forward to the follow up on it .it looks like a nice setup
Seeing is believing, impressive saw! I also noted the black flies, I'm lucky enough to be about 80 miles south of their habitat! Best regards, Jay
LOL! Let's hope they leave soon Jay!
That was awesome. You could tell the difference in the two saws for sure.
Good day eh!! The difference in cutting between the 2 saws is very noticeable. The new chain design looks like a winner. Good for Oregon to get you to demo the saw and chain set up GP!!! Thanks for sharing. Take care!!
Evening Grampie! The black flies arrived! Hope they are not too bad over your way. Yes, I was pretty surprised - big difference with the new chain for sure. Have a great weekend!
The BUGS!!! OMG. Please keep them up there :) Awesome Chainsaw. Well done.
LOL! Thanks!
w00t!
"Ora-gun"
LOL! :)) I got a w00t!!
Is that the prize you're saving for me? Very nice.
:))
Mosquitoes and Blackflies- Another good reason to have a tractor with a cab.
:))
Wow!
Nice little saw, good video.
Nice saw! Looks like these battery saws are improving. I got a Milwaukee Saw after your video last year. I choose that one because I already had those tools and the batteries match. That saw has become the one I use 80% of the time compared to my gas saws. It's just so practical. I wonder if that new Oregon chain designed for battery saws fits on other brand models.
Good morning Roger! That's a great question - I am not sure. But Guy is like you - he uses the battery one all the time since we got it. Have a great long weekend!
Been using a Husqvarna 536 electric saw for 2 years . Wouldn't trade it for anything. As for that 7 in tree . Too easy. New chain looks impressive
Looks like a nice saw. Nice you got a chance to try it out early!
Keep up the great work!
Thanks James!
Don't remember you saying "Wow" so much lol! Must be a good saw.
Thanks Gord. The bar might be a bit long for various 4x4 or ATV users but a good electric saw would be great for trees blocking a trail. Keep up the great work Gord!
Morning Dan! Yes, I noticed some other makes have 10-14" bars. Hope you are keeping well!
@@GPOutdoors ok Gord. I'll ask the surgeon what he used to replace my hip. Ha ha ha. Hope you have a great long weekend.
Morning again Gord, I watched this video again on my iPad and seeing it clearer I have to give you another “WOW” ,that cs300 Oregon Battery Powered Saw is going to be a great saw once it hits the market. Thanks again for sharing with us. Great job with the video. Fred. Be safe and keep having fun around there. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋
Morning Fred! LOL. I think the black flies are having just as much fun now. :)) Thanks for saying hi today. Enjoy your weekend !
Another Oregon! I know it "sounds" crazy, but you can hear the difference in the cut. It's like a tuned chainsaw v/s a non-tuned! Wow, she's a keeper!
Good evening Mitch! I heard it too. Difference in sound and cut. Can't wait to put some hours on it! Hope you are well!
Impressive saw Gord !
Hello GP
We took your advice on the B2601, and after 150 hours, have been amazed at what this little tractor can do.
We ordered the 5 inch wood chipper from Farmer Equipment yesterday, and can't wait to play with it. We really enjoy your videos. We will keep our Husqvarna Rancher 455 for cutting our year's firewood, but can see that chainsaw in our future for everything else.
Thanks, and all the best ,
Ben from Nova Scotia
P.S Thanks for the hat , I love it.
That's great to hear Ben! Very happy it is working out. Hope you enjoy the chipper! If you didn't tell Kevin it was for a B2601 then perhaps give him a call to confirm he is putting a Grade 2 Shear bolt on it for you. Most implements are shipped with a grade 5 bolt which is far too strong for the B's driveline. You're welcome and all the best!
@@GPOutdoors
Hello GP,
I watched your chipper videos closely, and told Kevin we would be using it on a B2601 , and also orderd a half dozen of appropriate grade sheer bolts. Have a great evenig,
Ben
Nice saw GP! It’s really fast! Have a good week.
From Northwestern Vermont
You too Darcy!
Very impressed with that saw and new chain. Nice of them to reach out and have you try it GP. Looked like it cut twice as fast. Amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Morning Doug! Far smoother and quicker for sure but I'm looking forward to getting some hours on it and we'll see how it performs over time. Hope all is well with you!
Another awesome video. Have a great long weekend.
You too!
Battery saws have come a long way Gord. I used my “wife’s” battery husqvarna all weekend,it worked great trees up to 8” in diameter. Very easy to take into field for quick cuts. Still for larger trees and limbing...I will use my new stihl or my dads 40 year old all metal stihl...it’s a tank, about as heavy as one too.
Nice saw cuts very well thanks for sharing take care
Hi GP,
Pretty impressive, and it's surprising that a chain for electric saws has not been previously engineered!
I am also amazed at all of the bugs! They can surely take the fun out of working outdoors!
Just me and my friend "OFF-Deep Woods" out there. Those black flies come quick and in big numbers. LOL. Have a good weekend Tom!
I never heard of such a thing GP. But the difference in the saws are audible. Little or no change in sound with the Nano chain. To me it seems to put less of a load on the motor and would possibly extend battery life. That’d be nice to see as you run it all the way down. Great info once again.
Gordon, I can't help but think that before you went out to shoot this video, you soaked in a tub of DEET for about an hour...
Great video, and timely. Been thinking about an electric saw and this is definitely food for thought!
LOL! I had to re-apply a few times for sure Chris! Cheers!
Hey GP, I think you put some stink bait around your camera to get the flies to swarm it. That is impressive the difference in cutting performance. Take Care, Jason
LOL! I think they are all divas - just trying to get on camera. :)) Take care Jason!
Nice improvement Oregon! Looking forward to viewing the chain specs.
Very interesting. It just seems strange not to hear any idle between cuts. :)
LOL! Good morning Chad. It does - takes some getting used to. Reminds me of my gramm's sewing machine.:))
I have the Dewalt 16 (40 amp) and 12 inch (20 amp) electric versions. I took out a few 60 foot tall ceder trees with that Dewalt 16" electric saw. It wasn't easy down near the base where the trees were probably 3 feet in diameter, I had to cut it from both sides, but it worked perfectly fine and made me some nice firewood. Side note, you pronounce "Oregon" improperly (like people on the east coast of the usa), its not "or-eee-gone" but actually pronounced "Or-eh-gun"
Great saw you have there Gord. Thanks for sharing. Fred.🙏🙏👍👍👏👏
Have a good night Fred!
Hello Gordy, How long did the battery last while field testing that new saw. I also liked your new duds.
Good morning Harry. I haven't tested that yet but will soon. The other one (CS300) gives me more than an hour of run time. Will let you know soon. Thanks!
Sign me up on less noise and no carrying fuel cans. Thanks for the video!
LOL! Morning Jean!
Hi Gord! Very impressive! So do you know if they are going to sell the chain standalone when they release the CS325? BTW, those black flies were terrorizing your cameras! I tried to wave them off for you, but they ignored me. Oh well, I tried. Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Gotta get me one GP. I live in a very rural area about 4 miles from the main road. I can't tell you how many times ive been delayed getting home by a storm blowing a tree across the road. Be nice to have one these tucked away in the tool box. Thanks, looking forward to an update.
Look at all those bugs flying in front of the camera! You can keep them. Ha! Ha! Nice chainsaw video.
LOL! Cheers Joey!
Impressive. Helped me make up my mind on which electric saw I would be getting. Cheers GP
Thought about and wanted to go electric for trimming. But 150.00 for a little 170 that I did not have high hopes for was a game changer. That little 170 with a chain upgrade is hard to beat for the buck.
Wow GP that worked fantastic.
That is very impressive! Your ability to stay sane with all the bugs. Oh, and the saw is very impressive as well. Can't help but wonder when someone is going to send you an electric tractor to demo.
LOL! Good day Don. That would be pretty interesting. I have seen some initial models on CZcams - Have a good one Don!
I look forward to the saw being available....did they give u an idea of price??
G P great saw we hope more is in chain my milwaukee has a origin chain
God Bless All
PaK
Good to see that someone has developed a new chain specifically for battery powered chain saws! The Oregon saw looks totally plastic, if it is, I wonder how it will handle the heat of the motor over time?
Please put that chain on comparable gas saws to see if it makes that much difference. Wow!! Thanks for the heads up on products.
Good video, wonder how the battery will work when below freezing point? I would also be interested in the specifications such as rpm and power.
HI Steve. Some great questions - I will do a followup video on it soon and list out the specs etc. Thanks!
I have been told that the electric chainsaw torque is such that the protective pants will not provide adequate protection from an electric chainsaw.
Morning. I have been told the same thing. Not sure if new chainsaw chaps or pants are out yet. Thanks for the great comment!
Impressive saw, the wife prefers a battery operated saw. My gas saw is way to heavy for her. What are you using as a skeeter repellent that look bad.
Hi Thomas - I use the OFF Deep Woods - the one for ticks. Works pretty good for me. Cheers!
Very impressive - can't wait until they become available! BTW - looked like your camera was getting swarmed!
The Black Flies are out! LOL! Cheers Frank!
I bought today the cs 325
Good video GP. I was curious as to the weight comparison between the electric and your gas powered STIHL. I cringed a little when you pronounced the state I live in though :-). We pronounce it here in Central Oregon as "OR-E-GUN," but said quickly with no pauses on the "E" and the "GON" portion should sound like the word "GUN." All the best.
Hey my apologies Cliff. Perhaps a little too much Canadian on that. Hope you are doing great! Thanks for the info on the state - :))
Don't let that beaver get its paws on that new saw.
:)) LOL!
Nice demo on the new chain, GP. Thanks
Cheers George!
Nice job GP., cheers
Thanks Roy!
I love your videos, and look forward to each new one. That looks like it's going to be a great product. Let's hope it will be available as a replacement chain for other saws.
I do have one little nit to pick though. As a native Oregonian, it's like listening to fingernails on a chalk board every time you mispronounce Oregon. All of the emphasis should be on the first syllable, and the third syllable is pronounced "gun," with no emphasis.
Morning and thanks Jim! A few folks were kind enough to help me on that one - sorry about that. I'll practice it up before the next video. Thanks again - have a great long weekend!
Does it sharpen the same way with a round file for the teeth and a flat file for the depth gauges?
So will this also work on the Oregon plug in electric saws as well? It's amazing to see the difference that new chain makes.
I bought the CS300 for my wife's birthday - she loves it. But I find that the wood chips plug up behind the tensioning cover very rapidly - within 2-3 minutes. So much that one cannot use the sharpening feature. Does this happen with the 325?
Hey good evening Terry. I have not found that with the 300 - I clean it each time I use it, like my other saws. The 325 does not have a built-in sharpener - just files or a grinder, as we sharpen other saws. Hey, what kind of wood do you cut with the 300? I am kind of interested about the chips you mentioned plugging the built-in sharpener. Thanks!
So far, this saw is impressing me too.
Gord, do you have any idea when Oregon may send these to the Canadian marketplace?
Good morning Reg! I don't yet. I will do some more trials with it for a while. I was quite surprised at the difference between the two saws - same motor and pretty much identical saws except for the chain. Have a wonderful weekend!
why not show a close-up of the chain, maybe give some specs like gauge, pitch and what do they recommend for sharpening angles?
Morning DC. You bet - next video. Thanks for the suggestion.
What is the weight of that saw with battery ? And what is the average run time before it needs recharging ?
HI Alton. I believe it was about 12 lbs (I don't currently have the manual). I tested the CS300 and I get just over an hour of run time off a charge. I will do a video soon on all the specs and test to see if it holds for the hour as well. Thanks!
That’s battery saw was pretty amazing, but I got to ask where in Ontario our you? Because those black flys 🪰 were killing it, LOL
I didn’t know what to watch you or the bugs. Love it❤️ thank again, from in the woods🇨🇦
LOL! Yup - they just arrived and they always come with buddies - I think they were all trying to get on camera for the video. Cheers!
CUTTING TO THE POINT GREAT VIDEO
Very nice. It would have been nice to see a bit of a close up of the teeth profiles to see what they have done. I'm actually considering a battery chainsaw as they are a lot easier to start than petrol ones. 1 thing that does annoy me about them is the noise. They are a lot quieter than a 2 stroke obviously but they still make a helluva lot of mechanical noise.
Good morning Alan. Great idea - I will include closeups and the specs on the next video. Yup- it sounds like my grandma's old sewing machine.:)) Have a great weekend!
What do you use for bug spray, short sleeve t shirt and a whole bunch of mosquitoes? Doesn’t look like they are bugging you. Nice saw by the way, future give away maybe?
I use OFF Deep woods (the one for ticks). And welll maybe....:) Cheers J!
@@GPOutdoors GP just photoshopped the black flies in for effect.😂😂😂
Hey there Gord, another great video. But I would be remiss if I didn’t correct your pronunciation of Oregon since I was born an Oregonian. If you pronounce it Orygun you would be much closer. Thanks much!
LOL! Thanks Michael - I appreciate it. Will practice it a bit before the next video for sure. Thanks again!
The older chainsaw stalled out cutting and then had to be started again. Does stalling regularly happen with this chainsaw? Meanwhile the new chainsaw does not stall.
My Ego chainsaw regularly stalls when cutting into bigger pieces of timber. It’s annoying. It has a 16 inch bar. I’d like to get a bigger chainsaw but am worried the bigger Ego will have the same issue.
Good morning Karl. Me too - usually when cutting into bigger stuff as well but i know that it may be largely because I may be forcing it too fast into the wood ( I think). Often, it is because my thumb slips off the lock button as i am pivoting the saw.
Nice saw, now if someone came out with a portable solar charger for chainsaw batteries with solar panels to charge the batteries when you’re in the woods
LOl! Good morning Larry!
Wow, that is an impressive chainsaw with the SpeedCut system. The question now becomes, do you have to sharpen it in a different manner to a standard chainsaw chain?
Good day B! Great question - the 2in1 sharpener I use won't work on it but it sharpened like normal with files or a grinder like your others. The gauge and file sizes etc are captured in the manual. Thanks!
With an electric did you change chaps? I thought the protection was different from electric to gas?
Another toy for the toybox
Battery is the future, but I think of my gas saw like my wife, she won’t let another woman in, and my 261 feels the same way
GP how am I supposed to go home smelling like premix ?
LOL! Cheers Gary!
Gord thanks for the comparison looks like a really good saw for cutting limbs pretty impressive. Take care, Ben.
