RD Burman Burman (Rahul Dev Burman) was inspired by Pink Floyd's song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Years later he composed the Bengali song "TUMI KOTO JE DURE KOTHA JE HARIE GELE" with the similar tune along with Asha Bhosle . This Song was Hit. Later Director Ramesh Sippy asked R.D. to use the tune of that Bengali song for his movie Saagar. RD composed the background music of Dimple Kapadia swimming in Saagar. Years later RD Burman used the same music and composed a full fledged song for "AAJA MERI JAAN" with SP Balasubramaniam and Anuradha Paudwal. "AAJA MERI JAAN" was not a movie planned for RD Burman. It was Anuradha Paudwal which had given him the offer to compose an album for her featuring 8 duets .There were 4 singers selected to accompany her.There were SP Balasubramaniam , Amit Kumar, Shailendra Singh and Danny Denzongpa. However T Series Never Released this Album. One of the songs composed was "AAJA MERI JAAN" which was used as the title song for the movie for promotion by Gulshan Kumar for his brother Kishan Kumar debut Movie AAJA MERI JAAN. But Surprisingly this song was not finally used in Movie and is not available any where. Later Bhushan Kumar got DJ Phukan to compose a new version of the song with singer Mauli for his Sunny Deol and Kangana Ranaut movie I Love New Year. This movie got released in 2015 but bombed at Box office

There were so many innovative sounds created by Pancham, to mention a few:
Rubbing of sandpaper to imitate a running steam engine in “Hoga tumse pyaara kaun” from ZAMAANEY KO DIKHAANA HAI.
Dipping of the school gong into water after hitting it: In “Ye din toe aata hai ik din jawani mein” from MAHAAN etc.
Only Pancham could’ve thought of using the actual sound of a firing gun in the other song from MAHAAN, “Pyaar mein dil pe maar de goli”.
Another sound used by a Pancham in many background sequences of suspense or otherwise was the sound of a hurriedly pulled chain of a chain pulley assembly, probably inspiring the famous chanting for josh, “Chain pulley ki main pulley ki chain” in SATTE PE SATTA.
Also the Pedal Matka used in many songs.
That eerie music created by a rotating metal instrument with lots of steel rods of different lengths and thickness, welded on a wheel hub. This was played a few times Gabbar Singh appeared onscreen in SHOLAY. That made a huge impact when Gabbar comes to murder Thakur’s family in the scene when Thakur’s grandson (Master Alankaar ?) stares at Gabbar near the empty moving swing.
There are just innumerable improvisations and sounds used by Pancham which perhaps many of us cannot fully account for in a long time.
Thankyou for this thoughtful compilation. Truly appreciate your efforts and also the efforts of many viewers all of whom have the greatest respect for the wonderful Master RDB who didn’t live long enough like God’s favourite children. Me and a lot of my closest friends came together in life pulled together by the songs of Pancham that we love to this day and will do forever !!
One more thing:
Today I was reminded of “Tum kitney din baad miley” from THE GREAT GAMBLER.. in this song, after every line that Asha sings, there’s this beautiful sound, it seems like something was devised out of beads on a string and pulled out of a bottle in small stretches.

The chord is not mistake but called accidental chord (like major/minor 7th chords). It is normal for musicians to add chords that fits in to the raga. Somebody (non musical guy) translated "accidental chord" as mistake chord. Regards

Still. If the chord isn't a part of the key it's technically not right can't say it's wrong but it's not right either

So far I can recall that the same tune of a Bengali duet song was used by TC RDB in the film "Hiralal Pannalal" perhaps released in 1980, picturised on Zeenat Aman and and veteran Prem Nath, sung by Hemant Kumar at the fag end of his musical career. It was the only song of Hemant Kumar under RDB.

Though RD copied/inspired,but,he beautified all such songs to the extent that original composer might confuse,whether they are the original composer or RD

He has way more original material than he does of songs that were inspired from other songs. He has great taste in sounds and had a great ear. He knew how to make great music and put these little sounds in then to make us enjoy them even more.

Bottle music is famous in mehbooba mehbooba, team member ke back peh drums jaise beat bajana, use of flanger in guitar in many songs like hum tumse mile from rocky. Use of arabian flutes in yama yama and other songs was fab. He was simply a maverick genius, who experiemented away from the actual rules of music. His classical pieces in amar prem, aandhi, and few more just showed how deep he was in classical too, but then again, both his parents, mom and dad were great classical musicians. Truly a Gift of God for us, and a Godfather of b.wood music!
Sachin Mukhedkar There were so many innovative sounds created by Pancham, to mention a few:
Rubbing of sandpaper to imitate a running steam engine in “Hoga tumse pyaara kaun” from ZAMAANEY KO DIKHAANA HAI.
Dipping of the school gong into water after hitting it: In “Ye din toe aata hai ik din jawani mein” from MAHAAN etc.
Only Pancham could’ve thought of using the actual sound of a firing gun in the other song from MAHAAN, “Pyaar mein dil pe maar de goli”.
Another sound used by a Pancham in many background sequences of suspense or otherwise was the sound of a hurriedly pulled chain of a chain pulley assembly, probably inspiring the famous chanting for josh, “Chain pulley ki main pulley ki chain” in SATTE PE SATTA.
Also the Pedal Matka used in many songs.
That eerie music created by a rotating metal instrument with lots of steel rods of different lengths and thickness, welded on a wheel hub. This was played a few times Gabbar Singh appeared onscreen in SHOLAY. That made a huge impact when Gabbar comes to murder Thakur’s family in the scene when Thakur’s grandson (Master Alankaar ?) stares at Gabbar near the empty moving swing.
There are just innumerable improvisations and sounds used by Pancham which perhaps many of us cannot fully account for in a long time.
Thankyou for this thoughtful compilation. Truly appreciate your efforts and also the efforts of many viewers all of whom have the greatest respect for the wonderful Master RDB who didn’t live long enough like God’s favourite children. Me and a lot of my closest friends came together in life pulled together by the songs of Pancham that we love to this day and will do forever !!

Yes you are absolutely right. When both are together best comes out.
Once he was inspired by the drained sound of the starter motor if the battery went down. He used it in used it in Hum Kisis Se Kam Nahin in the song Yeh Ladka Hai Allah. But it was not the dying engine sound but played on the instruments. He was mad and magical.

Though Pancham always traded in world music, his gems are in pure Hindustani, like Raina Beeti Jaye, Ghar Aja Gheer Ayee, Naam Gum Jayega, Jane Kya Bat Hai, Biti Na Bitayee Raina, Is Mod Se Jaate Hai, and many more. In a way he was a Pandit of Hindustani Sangeet along with all the rest in the world.

I respect pancham ji a lot but industry stopped getting his songs after 1984 as they felt that his songs are old fashioned.. he was very heart broken about that and died too early .. ☹️rip.. crct me if I'm wrong...
I think it was after 1987, because till Kishore kumar was alive, they were second to none. After Kishore Da's death Pancham's graph started descending drastically and he died of this face turn of the bollywood industry. Film producers started signing other directors, thinking that R. D BURMAN is no more popular. They realized it immediate after his death, nd till date they feel it...
his last music album was 1942:a love story,it's 90's album!
After Kishorda's demise, he indeed started getting fewer assignments. Producers turned towards other composers towards the late 80's. While other composers were churning out bottom of the barrel music, RD's few outputs like Parinda, Gardish, Namumkin etc were like a whiff of fresh air in a highly polluted atmosphere.

Seriously. AR Rahman songs are not melodious at all. Technically they might be superior but to the ears they are just noise. It is my opinion.
