Derek and Julianne Hough return as hosts with a glittering new performance, while Trevor Jackson hosts from Walt Disney World Resort. The trio takes viewers on a wintry ride through fan-favorite performances and unique, heartwarming moments.
The Walt Disney Company has produced an anthology television series since 1954 under several titles and formats. The program's current label, The Wonderful World of Disney, was used from 1969 to 1979 and again from 1991 onward. The program moved among the Big Three television networks in its first four decades but has aired on ABC since 1997 and Disney+ since 2020.
The original version of the series premiered on ABC in 1954. The show was broadcast weekly on one of the Big Three television networks until 1983. After a two-year hiatus, it resumed, running regularly until 1991. From 1991 until 1997, the series aired infrequently.
The program resumed a regular schedule in 1997 on the ABC fall schedule, coinciding with Disney's purchase of the network in 1996. From 1997 to 2008, the program aired regularly on ABC. Since then, ABC has continued the series as an occasional special presentation from 2008 onward, the most recent being a holiday music special in 2019. In 2020, the series returned with movies from the Disney+ library.
The show has had only two hosts, founder and former president Walt Disney and former chairman and C.E.O. Michael Eisner.
The show is the second longest-running prime-time program on U.S. television, behind the Hallmark Hall of Fame.
Julianne Alexandra Hough (July 20, 1988) is an American dancer, actress, and singer. In 2007, she joined the cast of ABC's Dancing with the Stars as a professional dancer, winning two seasons with her celebrity partners. After leaving the show in 2009, she returned in 2014 to serve as a permanent judge on Dancing with the Stars, a position she held until 2017. For her work on the series, she has received three nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography, winning once in 2015 with her brother Derek Hough.
Derek Bruce Hough (May 17, 1985) is an American professional Latin and ballroom dancer, choreographer, actor, and singer. From 2007 to 2016, Hough was a professional dancer on the ABC dance competition series Dancing with the Stars, winning the show a record-breaking six times with his celebrity partners. For his work, Hough received eleven nominations for the Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography, winning the award three times. Hough later became a judge on the series, beginning with its 29th season.
