    5:40 what a Blitzkrieg haha. But on a more serious note, an interactive map like this perfectly highlights the huge difference between a Western military doctrine based on mobility and Yugoslav People's Army artillery-siege warfare (a perfect example of that is seen in the Bihać pocket, green area in NW Bosnia). As soon as Croatia adopted Western doctrine, tactics, command&control in late 1994 it didn't take long for the results to show. Serbian units with their shallow defenses, dug-in cannons and vehicles really did not stand a chance against armor, artillery and aviation working in close cooperation. On numerous occasions the advance was so swift that Serbian howitzers were captured intact in their dugouts without managing to fire a single shot.

      @@minusPetar That famous myth is only alive in Serbia proper, where they ignore the fact that Milošević kept arming and supplying the ARSK with everything from a bullet to Russian-made SAMs, only for them to end up as Croat war trophies. The ARSK was routed before Milošević could even mobilize his main forces. Milošević himself openly mocked these Krajina losers, implying he had been in fact donating weapons to Croatian Army.

    • @lovrom7671
      @lovrom7671 Před 2 lety +14

      @@minusPetar He was being sarcastic, as all the weapon systems he had been stockpiling for the protracted defense of Krajina were so easily captured by Croatian Army which significantly expanded its inventory with ARSK equipment. Serbian soldiers didn't even bother to destroy operational weapons and vehicles they left behind in their retreat (rout, that is). He commented on this following the meeting of the Serbian General Staff just after 'Storm', where he expressed disgust for the ARSK and their performance in battle, saying it was he who provided them with the means to fight in the first place, but they (and I quote) 'ran like rabbits, and couldn't even defend an urban area like Knin for at least 12 hours'.

    • @lovrom7671
      @lovrom7671 Před 2 lety +1

      @@minusPetar They weren't actually, since they had conquered territory in Northern Bosnia in the opening stages of the war which secured them the vital link with Serbia. Serbs referred to it as the 'corridor of life'. Through it the ARSK received its last reinforcements from Serbia in early June 1995, and used it to build up an armored reserve as an independent unit, dubbed the 'Special units Corps', based in Kordun (central Croatia).

    • @lovrom7671
      @lovrom7671 Před 2 lety +3

      @@minusPetar It actually didn't, as all Croatian operations always aimed for either Knin or Banja Luka as enemy center of gravity. It was thought Serb collapse could be brought about quicker with the capture of 'capital' cities of Serb separatist entities, rather than cutting off their army which would still be well armed and would fight like a cornered animal (this seems a bit off applying traditional military thinking but had its reasons but I don't feel like going into that much detail). Thus, all operations were launched either to outflank Knin or as a direct drive on Banja Luka, and corridor was never attacked even at its thinnest points. In the meantime Serb forces aimed to widen the corridor in 1995 but failed to gain any ground. Corridor was severed following the Dayton accords by granting the town of Brčko a 'special' status, meaning it's not part of either the RS or the Federation.

    Fun facts about the 1995 Dayton Accords which ended the Bosnian War.
    - It enacted a population transfer to create ethnicly homogenous regions. Half of the population (2 million people) had to move.
    - Bosnia is nominally led by three presidents: a Bosnian, a Croatian and a Serbian. BUT there is also one more person, a high commissioner from the EU with a wide range of powers, including veto powers. He is basicly a viceroy, whose main job is to stick to the Dayton accords, and in doing so prevent the disintegration of the country.
    There is nothing more terrifying for the EU than any sort of change in the Balkans.

    I love you included the final ethnic map, but you should represent Czech and Slovak population (mainly in Slavonia and Vojvodina), gypsies, gorani (this las ones are a majority ethnic group in the extreme south of Kosovo and are slavs of muslim faith, but not consider themselves as bosnians) and also yugoslavs (a lot of them in 1991, testimonial in 2013).
