  • It's my third week here in Berlin as an AuPair. I've gotten into the routine of things and wanted to show you what a day in my life is like. It's not always fun and glamorous, so I wanted to show you the real raw day-to-day things I do.
If you like it and would like to follow along with my day-to-day life as an AuPair, you can find me on Instagram @savtuma.
    Thanks for watching!

Hey!! I took 2 semesters of German before I left. So when I got there I was probably A1-A2 level. Then once I was there, my german progressed and reached B2, I would say, when I left. Once you are in Germany, you start picking up the language SUPER fast. So I wouldn't worry!! Hope this helped!!

    Do you have any tips?

hey!! Good luck-- you will have a great time. Don't be surprised if the first week is hard. I honestly struggled and didn't really like it the first week. That's because you'll still be getting acquainted with the time change, culture, routine and of course family. Give it time.
If the family doesn't work out, you can always give them a 2 week notice and find another family. Make sure they respect you!! and that you have a contract of course.
Let me know if you have any other questions or need any more advice/help at all!! :) my Instagram is @savtuma if that's easier!!

Hello Savannah! Thank you for your reply! The family here is really nice but I’m having a hard time working with the children.. they still see me as a stranger but that’s normal since I only arrived last Saturday ahahah
I’m going to give it a month and if I feel like they still don’t really trust me I’m probably going to find another family because, in my opinion, it’s really important that also the kinds get along with me, right?
I’m also having an hard time because I’m only 18 and this will be my first time staying away from my family for a longer period of time... I’m probably going to get really homesick in a few weeks
Is there even a way to prevent homesickness? 😂

I had a couple Facetime calls with a few families before agreeing to one. Once I had found the right family, I asked them for a reference. They had a couple AuPairs before me, so I emailed the reference and ask her about her experience. I would 100% recommend doing this! :) Hope this helps! I was pretty scared as well, but once I knew I had found a good family, my worries subsided.

hey! Thanks for the nice comment! It depends on how many hours you would work for the family. I would say in most cases no, if you are a full time student. I had to work 5-7 hours a day which wouldn't have left me enough time to attend class/study/do homework. But, if you can find a family that is super chill and has shorter hours, I would assume so! :)

    • @Melanie-tp3jp
      @Melanie-tp3jp Před 3 lety

@@savtuma since 2020 it is minimum 280 Euros. In case a family doesn't want to at least pay for that, forget it. A host family has to protect and to take care of the new Family member in time.
Dear Savannah, did you asked the parents about filming the kids ?
Even for kindergarten and school we have to allow an extra sign that filming or photography is allowed, because of data protection.
If you don't know about this, please write this in your Facebook Community. I have seen this so often.
Most families who can pay enough money for an au pair have expensive interiors and we Germans love our privacy. Showing houses can also attract criminals.
This ist really a huge problem.
For this reason it would be possible that the parents no longer take au pairs in the future.
      Blessings from Baden Württemberg 🏡
