Best solution is a patch panel made of bulkhead mount protectors and/or feedthru barrels, mounted on a metal panel, well bonded to ground. For quick change, push on pull off UHF connectors are available. You can also patch in filters, amplifiers, loads and such.

Thanks Dave for this one. Been a ham for a little over 3 years now. I have TWO Alpha Delta switches for 4 rigs feeding an HF doublet and as you mentioned a high band antenna. Works great, never any problems. Of course, I researched this first and was advised by some fellow radio operators that have the experience (O:

Lol...nice work as always Dave. The pastry made me hungry...had to pause the video to get something similar! I do use this exact switch (DELTA-4) to use one antenna among a couple of radios and it works perfectly for this. Mine is - one radio for UHF/VHF and the other for MURS to support our local ECOMM group in the hills outside of town.

Hi David, but of course you can use the cheaper antenna switches for switching between radios as long as the " other " radios are switched off...why would you want to keep the other radios powered?2

Reposition that lamp that's behind you Dave before it falls over, breaks, starts a fire, and burns your damn house down.

  • @opticalman1jeffkeokro741

Great job Dave, I thought that this was not a good idea but great to hear that it will work with the Alpha Delta. Just one other note your lamp behind you is about to tip over LOL. Thanks, Jeff

Thanks for answering this question Dave. - I'm now going to see if these Alpha Delta coax switches are available in England.

Tiddly Oggie is what they're called in Cornwall. Oggie means pastry. Tiddly means real or proper. Tiddly Oggie = proper pastry.

I have a similar setup to use the same antenna with one hand held, one mobile and one scanner. It allows me a lot of flexibility. I have the MFJ, they aren't as good but they are good enough.

In theory, if you had 2 of these switches and 4 antennas and 4 radios you could have a poor mans switch board

George, I have a UHF radio and a VHF radio in my shack and I want to hook them to an Alpha Delta switch and out to my dual band Diamond X50 antenna. Can I do that, and do I need a duplexer for such a hookup?

  • @DominicMazoch
    @DominicMazoch Před 2 lety

Instead of a switch, I use "Male-Female" connectors, and switch if needed manually. Do not do it that often. That would isolate the unuse rig better.

Hello Dave, I am an oggie. I enjoy the topics you present and the method used. This is comfortable to watch short coming and how to correct on the spot. Do not we all make mistakes in just the same way.
As I observe your new angle of presentation (off to the side) there is a lamp in the background. I see it on the left. It is tipping over. I watch very carefully to see when it will tip over and fall. Have you noticed this?
I have also received my General 6 months ago.
My ares group is in need of the digital modes available with fldigi. I have learned a great deal on how to setup and work my station by watching your videos on this #24, 25,26. Is there anything you could add to this topic?

    On a different note.
I have decided that from now on, if there is alternative to a Chinese product, I will buy that instead. I will not purchase from countries that commit human rights violations, genocide, predatorial lending etc. So, no more Chinese tat for me. (Not to mention the environmental implications too.)
