- This restoration is of a friend of mine's car, a 1960 Citroen 2cv AZU van.
As some of the other cars I am showing in my videos, it was in pretty bad shape at start but the end result is once again pretty nice. Not restored perfectly to the OEM state but it was a sane body on a brand new chassis and full of accessories.
I hope you like it.
One of the best restoes I have seen and tastefully finished. Exactly how would have done it, if I were a young man, but a lot of hard work I know. Thanks for sharing. I get my 2CV next year, or rather a box of bits, my first Citroen of any kind, not as hard as this.
Thank you for rescuing this. It seems like most people don't care about such things anymore. 😞
You created a vehicle out of a chunk of rust, very nice job
Fantastic. I like that you did not do a "show car" restoration. Restored to be used. Excellent.
Great job , love these little corrugated metal cars
Great job, You over simplify how much work your doing.
Rolling Anderson Shelter
I had no idea these were 2cv Vans absolute classic, great job.
I have so much love for this project. Just the perfect level of restoration and one of the coolest little cars ever! Wonderful!
That's a very nice comment thank you and it sums up exactly what I think about this particular restoration. Well done!
It's a great that you lived it to looks a vintage one! Bravo!
Great job! I’m so glad you rescued and restored that beautiful 2CV.
Thanks for the nice comment.
A very well done job, take a bow sir! I really like the way you have not restored it too much and removed all its time worn character. Takes a lifetime to get this look and like to see it preserved where it does not need to be replaced or restored.
I am glad you liked it. Thanks for watching my videos.
Perhaps not the most preferred vehicle to restore, but very good job with the subtitles and details. This was the best I've seen so far.
Thank you
My deepest respect for this 2CV-project. Beautiful result. (PS: I drive one myself)
I like that its not over restored , I drive my 1950 Mercury Truck with a little surface rust and a few dents. People like it better than the perfect hot rodded trucks.
I owned DSs and IDs back in the 60s, (in Canada) and a friend had a 2CV car, which I drove a little, What I appreciate a lot on this resto is the original production front end & grille. They should have kept with it, as it has the real 1930s feel, and in harmony with the rest of the body lines. It looks a lot like a scaled down Voisin Aerodyne. Nice job!
That was good fun to watch, love how you kept the car's character, somehow I just like this kind of restoration better than a full respray making the care "to new".
But that all depends on what car it's done to.
Merci bien !!!
S.C.N. HUISMAN I am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the nice words.

Nice job... I love 2CV's...
I spent an equal amount of time restoring my '78 Ford Econoline work van... not as classy as this... but it will haul a ton of firewood without blinking...
It still needs work... but... old vehicles always do...

what a talented engineer, thats amazing. would love a 2cv again. had a couple of them, one of the best utility vehicles ever produced
lookoutleo agreed 😀
Sweet little truck! But what’s sweeter is the awesome music that you chose for the background! While the genre of music is consistent with the age of the vehicle ,it totally misses the ethos that this truck puts out; it’s like the truck is trying ....so ....hard! Nice restoration, though. Now this little beast can terrorize the French countryside roads the way it was meant to!
Wow I'd never think of a car as a literal box on wheels! They have so much cargo space!
Loved these from my time in Germany, classy little Van's and cars.
A children or baby can fix this car
Super easy. We love you nice old car
Its nice to see this type of projects good work I liked that you used the kiss rule
Great job!!! I just love these little cars! The simplicity of the vehicle is awesome, and they're so engaging to drive. Thank you for sharing this restoration - a job very well done without it becoming a show piece, but rather a working everyday car.

These are great little trucks, I have a ‘57 Truckette and the 425 cc engine really does a fair job of getting to 50 mph on the flat.
Glad you left outside paint original. Love the hand painted number plates. Great job.

Very cool! You don't get to see those in the States, thank you for saving a piece of history!
Wow.....you did a wonderful job there...obviously you are very experienced. I love the fact that you left this old sweetheart in her old dress....I wish you many happy years with this little dream car.Cheers
Great job. I remember being driven in a 2CV (sedan) back in the late 70's. You must have a lot of spare time on your hands. Thumbs up!
Fun video. Thanks for the show. Great job getting a classic back on the road. There or in the U.S. or any old cars around the world need a little respect.
Patrick Duncan thank you
Stunning transformation ! Nice work !

Niklas Wejedal thanks

This is love, I had 3 2CV's.
absolutely great job !!!
I'd like to own one of these. If I were rich I'd like to have a collection of "people's cars" from around the world. Like the VW Bug, Fiat 500, Mini, etc. My first new car was a Kia Rio which at the time was the cheapest car available on the US market. I already had an appreciation of small, simple cars but owning that car really honed my appreciation even further.
Nodak81 Yeah add a Trabant 601 to that list :)

No need to be rich, only diligent in your searches!
Perfect Job!!! Congratulations!!
Very cool, not many vehicles like that in the states if any. Nice job, it is such a interesting basic truck!
Agreed. It really is a nice car to drive as long as you are not in a rush :)
I believe they were sold for a while in the 1950's. In the late 1950's or early 1960's the 2CV did not meet certain US safety standards like brakes on all 4 wheels and Citroen decide to completely withdraw from the US market.
The dates are correct but these cars do have brakes of four wheels though. They must have been withdrawn from the US market for a different reason. I guess maybe the body was not strong enough (very thin metal sheets). Just a guess though :)
I saw one of these being driven in Newport beach CA back in the 80s. The kid got way more attention the the Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Rolls that populate the streets. Cool little project
you'll find a bunch in Lakewood NJ
nice work.....you make it like a car again!!!
She sure looks fine. Great job!
This is one lovely restoration job! I had the same problem with the bonnet hinge on my 1990 2CV6, You can actually buy a new bonnet hinge plus the back part just to weld in. I did exactly that, but I had to weld it outdoors and every time I started the Danish weather came and made it a hell for me, at the end I send it off to a workshop to get it finished.
Sohave I have always done all my cars myself from start to finish but I know what it is to be blocked because of the weather
These cars are so lovely, just like the Renault 4 like i use to have in the seventies!!
Yes I can't disagree with that :)
Didn't see the rust removal technique ? I have same to do on mine. Can you help pls ?
Great job. I like the vintage little french cars :-). They have their own charm . Very nice ;-)
Excellent work!
MRrwmac thank you
Today’s gospel lesson was Jesus bringing Lazarus back from the dead. You guys made the2CV rise from the rusty dead. Very impressive, difficult fabrication work.😮
The Old Timer Garage team has shown the dedicated mechanic's procedures for achieving a successfully restored 6 decades old impossible to repair van. Besides containing rusting & corrosion, restoration projects for vintage cars should be encouraged more often worldwide for clearing out the overload in parking spaces.
Great master piece restoration,
Definitely a labour of Love
Thanks
This beast would be perfect for an artist, craftsperson, photographer, etc. to haul their gear around to craft shows/fairs!
Excelente video desde El Salvador. Les quedo linda la BURRITA. Renault. Felicidades
A CLASSIC BACK TO THE LIFE .GREETINGS AND FKN GOOD JOB ,YOU ARE THE MAN OF THE PLAIN
lovely work on the van. liking the video too. only wish I could get hold of such a car, or a Dyanne or Ami. Thanks for posting
Ken Sherwood my pleasure
Great video, I'm doing research on this vehicle because I have the model kit I want to build. Thank you for sharing.
magnificent restoration, lots of pride in workmanship there
It's pretty flipping cool as a van! I like that body style.
Love your videos. I like the way you are not restoring to factory new, and showing they have had a life, and a life going forward. I like old french cars very simple in design, but had good engineering underneath such as suspension that was quite ahead of its times back then. My first car was a Renault 9 and have had french cars ever since, picking up a new 2017 Model Megane in the next few days. Keep up the good work saving classics for a future generation.
It was fun to watch, love how you repaired all the rusted spots the way you did. But some people like that you kept the old look which is nice, as for me I would like to see the whole thing painted one color. There's no other like it so why not.... amazing work though super impressed....
Thank you very much
Awesome job - and a fine video! Merci
A mammoth task to restore something so full of rust. Well done.
wow! great video! , that's like a VW BUG SUV lol

Sehr schön das die Seele des Autos erhalten blieb.
nice to see a truck preserved.
oooh! i hoped to see it repainted again, but is an amaaaaaaaziiing and haaaaard work!!!!!
You just take the seats out and the interior is basicly stripped.
What a car... 😄
Yes this is very true.
A huge amount of work.
We got a front end bumped one in for repair back in the 80's , no one would drive it in and out of the garage accept me , the lad who hated the most got stuck repairing it lol .
So Satisfied
I love this a lot.
Nicely done!
Thank you
Great job,not over restored. Prefer the metal steering wheel though :)
Yes I do prefer the metal steering wheel too but my friend wanted to fit as many accessories as possible in this car. I can't remember the exact number but I think it was over 25 when he sold it.
8:26 turns into a character from Cars 👀
Nice work!!!! doing same on Citroen 3CV
