  • On August 23, 2021 the fantastic NYC area guitarist James Chirillo (of Jazz @ Lincoln Center and Juilliard fame) sat in in my solo gig at the Green Mill in Chicago. James is an old friend and we had a ball swapping phrases and comping for each other. Here's some nice footage (artfully shot by my friend T.W. Li) of us playing the 16 bar blues Soft Winds. James sounded so good on my Epiphone Triumph!
These days I play solo at the Green Mill in Chicago every Thursday for the cocktail hour show. If you're in town stop by and say hello!

That was a great duet -- especially loved it when you came back to the head and had those great harmonies at the end. Intense, like listening to a good string quartet.

These two play beautifully together. And if I read it correctly, James Chirillo is from Waltham Massachusetts! The jazz winds must've been in the air of Waltham, during the baby boom in the 1950s.

Beautiful! Reminiscent of the Joe Pass and Herb Ellis duo recordings, and here are another two exponents of the art of tasteful jazz guitar.

Very nice! James Chirillo is heretofore unfamiliar to me; I’ll be digging into his playing no doubt. Never heard this tune before either. And is that a modern era Tal Farlow?
