I was there when still in Junior High. My girlfriend's father was running a concert promotion company and invited this band to Japan so she took me the best seats for us. It was first time to see Steve Gadd playing and he was truly amazing. Everything was perfect at the concert.
My husband is dying from cancer and my father is very ill lies in the hospital but this band gives me the strength to go on like its done for 30 years ! I love this band soo much And oh what were they young back then !! People thank you soo much for the beautiful music I love you soo much Thank you !!!
What a great video. Dave's brother Don is very underrated in my opinion. Thank you for this video. Such pleasure at three in the morning when I can't sleep!
I can't believe it...I was there! A guy I've known produced this video.I was a super fan of RITENOUR back then! Asked him to capture him as much as he could in this video! I don't know if it was true but he told me Dave Grusin joked about it to him that there were more coverages of RITENOUR than him ....!? Lol.A sweet memory!
I still have my cassette that I recorded in my bedroom as a 16yr old on a Saturday morning back in '83 when Robbie Vincent played that particular "Countdown" recording. I remember before the advert break before he played it, Robbie told us to get ready and "Stand by your ears!!!". And it sure didn't disappoint. Memories . . .
I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH DAVE AND DON GRUSIN IN LITTLETON, COLORADO. DAVE WAS OLDER THAN ME AND DON WAS MY FIRST BOYFRIEND IN FIRST GRADE THROUGH 6TH GRADE. I TOOK PIANO LESSONS FROM THE SAME TEACHER THEY BOTH DID, MRS. STEVENSON. IT'S A GREA TO SEE DAVE AND DON AGAIN. I KNEW THEY WOULD BE FAMOUS SOMEDAY AND I AM SO PROUD OF THEM BOTH. MY NAME WAS PATTY DIANE LACY.
I'VE BEEN A BIG FAN OF DAVID FOR A LONG TIME!! COUNT DOWN IS A BIG FAVORITE OF MY FOR LONG TIME AND LEE DO THE GUITAR SOME JUSTICE.I LOVE THEM.THAT'S REALLY GOOD MUSIC.
I bought this recording in L.P. format in Helsingborg, Sweden in 1985. I play it every week making it probably the most frequently played recording in my vast collection. I first became aware of Dave Grusin's capabilities and music arranging skills in the Andy Williams Show on t.v. in the 1970s.
thanx for your post!!! from jpn.
Thanks for uploading rarities like these! The first tune is somewhat similar to "Glamour Profession"...No wonder: Same Bass-player and drummer...figures LOL
Very entertaining...I must add my voice to the chorus of those who wish...oh, how I wish...this complete performance would get a proper DVD release (especially if the entire concert was filmed).
Mr Axberry should just disable ratings counter, too many morons clicking their buttons. This video is ment for Jass fans, not some passer by hecklers. Excellent music, jass on fellas!!!
robert watt He was the guy back then! AND he appeared everywhere literally ! Lol A true drum hero! Maybe the very 1st drum super drum hero in a history!? His popularity was phenomenal!
@@j.p.lindsay6768 It's you that's got it the wrong way round. The late, great, Grady Tate had NOTHING to learn from Steve Gadd. He was a legendary drummer before Gadd knew how to pick up drumsticks. Gadd is certainly a great drummer, but overrated and over hyped. There are plenty of his contemporaries who are as good, or better.
This band tried too hard to put together a feel good commercial sound. Keyboard synth sounded screechy. Couldn't take it.Drummer was incredible, however. I live on the West Coast, but can't get into west coast commercial music. Give me Stuff any day
As for me I listen and don't judge. The longer I play the more I hear in things that previously would have passed on. For example that screechy synth (and this genre of 'commercial jazz' in general} - 10 years ago I would have said what you said, now I just hear it as a sound and a concept and it reminds me of a time and place. I've learned (make that "I am learning") to open my ears to music. P S I am also a Stuff head!!
The 70's and 80's is Golden Era of Fusion Music!!!
MAGIC IN THE AIR,A MOMENT OF FRIENDSHIP WITH THE MUSIC,A PIECE OF HUMAN ART

Anthony Jackson is capable of keeping it in the pocket even playing super busy basslines. That is where the magic lies.
Anthony Jackson and Steve Gadd!! Two of the very best at understanding what matters......the groove!!!
They're seamless here. So refined and tasty.
Solid as a rock!
My favourite combinations are Rainey and Purdie, and Anthony and Gadd. Different styles, but both classics by now.
When great musicians of this caliber are in one orchestra, it's an incredible moment in music history!
My husband is dying from cancer and my father is very ill lies in the hospital but this band gives me the strength to go on like its done for 30 years !
I love this band soo much

Thank you !!!
God Bless Your Family !!
Sincere best wishes to your Father &. Husband, I hope all is as well as can be,
CAREER GIRL BITCHES
AT 16"" groove STEVE GADD ! Thank you dear STEVE ! ! !
i adore Rit for the way he is playing his guitar!!!!i love it!!!
The legends are just killing it. Thanks for sharing this as one can hardly come across it on radio stations today. I love it.
Worked several gigs with Don Grusin before his re-location to LA back in the 70s. He was so much fun and just grooved ALL the time.
you're my kinda girl !!!
And what is this things? All of this things are may called as a Musical Paradise! All of pieces are so precious, still in this days.
Great music
What a great video. Dave's brother Don is very underrated in my opinion. Thank you for this video. Such pleasure at three in the morning when I can't sleep!
absolutely fabulous !!!! its been brilliant from the very beginning back in the eightees !!!!it will never loose its smooth touch!!!

So how long do I have to keep practicing before I'm introduced as "the number one drummer in the world"? Love it for Steve!!
Que des "GRANDS" !!!
@L'1♫♪
Exactement ! 👍
Excelente!
I recorded this live from the original broadcast it has a great version of "Don't Be Blue" w/ Michael Franks ....someday I'll try to put it on here
Anthony Jackson's bass line!
I know Gadd brings out the best in the people he plays with!
64bbfan e
Steve Gadd really does. 🥰🙏
The legend Lee Ritenour....
Thanks for uploading rarities like these!
The first tune is somewhat similar to "Glamour Profession"...No wonder: Same Bass-player and drummer...figures LOL
same keyboard player, too!
Thats Anthony Jackson on bass
lo espero fervientemente !!
Magic!
Very entertaining...I must add my voice to the chorus of those who wish...oh, how I wish...this complete performance would get a proper DVD release (especially if the entire concert was filmed).

26 personas ,dijeron que no les gusta? dudoso gusto musical deben tener!
is there anywhere or anyone Gadd HAS NOT played with--this is just awesome stuff
robert watt I don't think there is! He's (Gadd) played with everyone and on everything!! :)
robert watt He was the guy back then! AND he appeared everywhere literally ! Lol A true drum hero! Maybe the very 1st drum super drum hero in a history!? His popularity was phenomenal!
Ahead of its time
Shame that Eric Gale wasn't featured much.
What's the name of the first song on this clip? it's so funky.
It's called "Number Eight" composed by Don Grusin
Great! Does anyone know what year this is from?
elmhurst86 It should had been '82, '83! Lol I was there , a family friend guy produced this video ...I was about 17? I believe ! Lol.
I read in another comment this was in summer 1982 in Budokan, Japan. 🥰
With extra cheese
the same band of grover washington
Perhaps Steve Gadd learned many licks from Grady Tate. He certainly can play wonderfully. I have learned so much from Steve Gadd. Thank you Mr.Gadd!!!
Ray Flowers You have that backwards, sir! Grady picked up stuff from Gadd! :)
This is so funny! Love it! Lol.
+J.P. Lindsay Tate is 13 years older than Gadd

whistle messed up a good drum solo.
yer right, that dang whistle was annoying.
i personally prefer sonny emory on drums rather than gad. emory has more colouring I find gad to old school real 70s style.
Gadd with Clapton. Vs Sonny with Clapton. Gadd wins
Carlos Vega (r.i.p.) also did fantastic work with Grusin and Ritenour
I’m uuii
Great players. But comercial fussy jazzie .
Personally I think Eric Gale is overrated. His solos are stuck in the past, he always sounds the same.

Difficult to understand this critizism ... 🤔 this band is so phenomenal 🥰🙏
These guys worship themselves. A deplorable show. They are not more than acceptable musicans.
Kaj Genell Do you know this for fact?
You don't know what youre talking about. You should check out these musicians on other recordings,im shure you will change your mind.
NavyLeaguer above had an opinion. You're just a toll not worth a real response.
