  • Here's a short, easy guide for making up bottle feeds safely for bottle feeding your newborn baby.
    Just for reference my daughter is 8 week 6 days old today.
    Once you've got all of the bits, bobs and teats squeaky clean, and sterilised the rest is a walk in the park.
    - Before you start be sure to wash your hands and make sure your work area is squeaky clean.
    -Formula powder is not sterile so I used hot water (just boiled) to kill any potentially harmful bacteria in the powder.
    -Fill the kettle with fresh cold water and bring to the boil.
    -Allow the water to cool slightly to around 70 degrees.
    -Take a sterilised bottle and fill with the hot water to the right level.
    - Reading the instructions for your chosen powdered formula, scoop out the required amount of powder and level it off so there is no excess.
    - Add this to the hot water in the bottle, screw on the teat/cap and then shake from side to side to blend.
    - If you do not have the time to allow the milk to cool down, and you need your bottle ASAP! Just add an ounce less before adding the desired amount of powder. Shake this well, then open up the lid to add the the remaining once of water (cold water). This should eliminate having to sit your bottle in cold water to cool down.
    - Always drop a little bit of milk onto your wrist to test the temperature.
    - If it feels too hot, run the bottle under a cold tap. The milk should feel lukewarm on your skin.

    Thank you for this! I have a week old baby and we're still using pre-made bottles because I'm so scared. How would you make up your bottles for the day? I've got a bottle warmer so could I make the bottles up fresh, cool them in the fridge then use the warmer to warm them up? I plan on using aptamil also xxx

    • @naturallydre
      @naturallydre  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi so glad my video has helped. My lil one is almost 10 months now so i try to pre-make 5-6 bottles a day because she's on solid foods too. Aptamil has been the best milk for us honestly. I'm really careful about what my lil one eats because she has eczema. But be sure to let your fresh bottles cool down a bit before popping them in the fridge, then take it out when needed and heat using the bottle warmer before feeding. If you need any other advice just let me know and congratulations Mama! xxx

      Hiya Iv just had a baby nearly two weeks ago. I was using cow and gate pre made bottles for about the first week. I now during the day make bottles up as I go and for night time I make about three bottles. I let them cool down and put them in the back of the fridge and then take one out of the fridge when baby wakes up and put it in the bottle warmer.

      @@Lyricvids72 hi congratulations:) yes this is exactly what I did but sometimes just waiting for the milk to heat up takes some time 🥴 it’s all about saving time but also making sure babies milk is made safely. I just make them on the go now that my little one turned 7/8 months and now that she’s 1 she’s drinking less formula and eating more solids than before.

    When I make formula it's not fully dissolved the the temperature they showed in the can. When it makes in high temperature it's fully dissolving.in the case of nan its dissolves the same temperature, ie .luke warm water is enough. What can I do

    • @naturallydre
      @naturallydre  Před 3 lety

      High the only thing with high temp is that it kills the nutrients in the milk so you would need to boil fresh water and leave to cool for 30 minutes before mixing with the milk. I find that it mixes okay but maybe let the hot water cool for 20-25 minutes then mix the powder. hopefully that helps x

    • @naturallydre
      @naturallydre  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi they recommended that you discard of milk after and two hours I think (not 100% sure) but I found it to be easier to make at least 2-3 bottles at a time especially in the earlier stages. I made sure to let the milk cool right down then place in the fridge as the fridge helps to preserve. And generally you find that a new born tends to drink every two hours so it worked perfect for me. I would take the bottle out the fridge and place in the bottle warmer that came as a set. I think as long as you wash and keep bottles sterile and clean your hands before touching bottles, it helps to keep it all clean and avoid any bad bacteria from forming. I hope this helps!

    • @naturallydre
      @naturallydre  Před 2 lety

      Hi Hun. Best thing to try is Organic Prunes in a fruit pouch for 4months and older baby. It worked so well for my lil one when she got constipated.....You can also add extra water to baby milk but be mindful of how much extra water you are adding to the formula. For babies under 6 months it is recommended to just give breastmilk/formula. When they get to 6 months you can add small amounts of water in addition to milk etc if needed. Hope this helps x

      Hi aptamil can be taken from birth you just have to get the right stage formula. Aptamil is like your no nonsense formula and provides your baby with the very best components especially if you aren’t able to breastfeed or baby doesn’t take to breastfeeding. I now use similac ever since my baby Turned 10 months and go between the two. Similac is equally a very good brand And tends to help fill my daughter up for her night feed before bed.
