Song for Ireland is written by Phil and June Colclough
Lyrics:
Walking all the day
near tall towers where falcons build their nests
Silver winged they fly,
They know the call for freedom in their breasts,
Saw Black Head against the sky
Where twisted rocks they run down to the sea
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sun sets, I asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic Sea,
And sang a song for Ireland
Talking all the day,
With true friends who try to make you stay,
Telling jokes and news,
Singing songs to pass the night away,
Watch the Galway salmon run,
Like silver dancing, darting in the sun,
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets, I asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic Sea,
And sang a song for Ireland
Drinking all the day,
In old pubs where fiddlers love to play,
Saw one touch the bow,
He played a reel that seamed so grand and gay,
Stood on dingle beach and cast,
In wild foam for Atlantic bass,
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets, asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic Sea,
And sang a song for Ireland
Dreaming in the night,
I saw a land where no-one had to fight,
Waking in your dawn,
I saw you crying in the morning light,
Lying where the falcons fly,
They twist and turn all in your air-blue sky,
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets, asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic sea,
And sang a song for Ireland
And sang a song for Ireland. - Hudba

I can almost imagine Patrick Pearse, with all his love for his beloved Ireland, smiling with tears in his eyes as he listens to this.
Not really a revelation, since i am aware of your musical talent--but a pleasant reminder that enjoyment can be had from a simple performance, a good song well sung. You are pretty too
Thank you so much for your kind words.

This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It never ceases to move me. I am American of Irish descent. I have a deep yearning to visit Ireland. You have done such a wonderful performance of this song. Liked and saved to playlist. Wishing you all the best. ~ Bel
I hope you've made that journey, Seamus. I can't work out how to preserve the fada on my computer although my son, also a Seamus, can. It's 5 years, now. 3 1/2 years ago, I ran into a Seamus from Boston in O'Connell Street awaiting the Sunday parade in celebration of the centenary of the Uprising. If that wasn't you then don't be discouraged by the cynicism of the Irish, they are so sick of of the Diaspora us proclaiming our Irishness. The Chorus line "I sang a song for Ireland" touches something in me that I an't articulate.

Should have added that I am from Newfoundland Canada and also of Irish descent
Love the song, love the rendition, but the late Dick Gaughan's cover remains my favorite.
Thank you very much for your lovely message.
@@RebeccaWinckworth You are very kind, and your performance was quite memorable. Mr. Gaughan's happened to be the first version I heard, and I'm funny that way. Thank God for your great gift, and thank you for making the most of it.
