  • In this week's John Ankerberg Show with guests, Joni and Ken Tada and Michael and Cindy Easley, we'll take time to discuss how to end well in caregiving. Whether you are in the position of facing the upcoming death of your loved one or have recently encountered the loss of someone, you'll find that Scripture offers much to help.

Caring for my loved one for 11 years was a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time together. He was over a hundred when he passed away. The memories of our time together and the fun we had are a treasure. However, I was elderly myself and the responsibilities were relentless. I started having health issues the doctor said were stress-related. I couldn't let go of my care giving enough to get help and drove my health into the ground. Now I deal with two disabling autoimune diseases. I wouldn't trade my care giver memories for anything, but I learned that if care givers don't make their own health a priority, they won't be able to help their loved ones. Joni has been a huge source of inspiration to me during my illness.

I love how she said the hard times were "pushing her heart toward Heaven." I get that. I feel the same. God knows what He's doing.

Praise God for you both! I have a Pastor who cares for a paraplegic and she is in constant pain and the love of these two like you and Ken! The doctors are about to give up on them both, please pray for the Coburn's that God open a door and lead them to someone, somewhere to lead them and guide them to pain management for Jenny!

“ Suffering is like little splash-overs from Hell.” Yes, so true. And finding Jesus in the fire with you, is a Heavenly gift. I suffer from chronic pain and can testify it’s true. Although my pain is invisible to others, God knows. No one else can taste the pain, nor the intimacy Jesus brings as we lean into Him in total surrender.
I fight , and choose , to embrace the idea that God has allowed this in my life to keep me focused on Him and Heaven, and that instead of a punishment, it is a gift of great Help to my soul.
There are times my husband has been Jesus to me and I have seen him grow in love and compassion towards me, that is witness of a miracle! Praise God for His Divine Grace!
I love these two and thank God for them!

Those "splash-overs" of hell I define as "Maalox moments." And splash-overs of heaven I define as "Hallmark moments." Today I have a lot more Hallmark moments than Maalox moments.

I'm a little confused .. so was Joni and Ken receiving direct extra biblical personal revelation from God? My heart goes out to Joni .. I've been chronically I'll for over 25 years now .. but nowhere near as serious as Joni .. she's been an inspiration for many I'm sure over the years who are also disabled, sick, and suffering, I'm just a little confused as to the personal revelations from God .. I can't really find any promises in scripture that God talks to us but in the Holy Scriptures ..

Hi Chris, Jeremiah 33:3 is a great one! Also, John 10:27-28 and Isaiah 30:21. Ephesians 2:6 means we (our spirits) are with God even now..as we are here on earth. Holy Spirit speaks to our spirits- when we are in Christ we are seated at God's right hand, as his sons and daughters, and He whispers right into our ears. Our Heavenly Father talks to His children in many ways! His word, His creation, His other children (also His creation...). He made everything, everything He made is good, and everything He made He is capable of communicating through. We can try putting God in a box but it only limits us (legalism?). Everything we hear from God will line up with His word! And if it doesn't, it's not from Him! Spirits speak: (1 John 4:1-6) Does that help at all? Oh, and I would also say, "Ask Him! Ask Him how He speaks personally to you!" He knows His creations each so perfectly..and knows how to talk to us best, how we hear Him (like love languages...).
