    Namaskar Dada,
    Firstly, thank you for this really nice and instructive video.
    I have been living this dilemma of bad sleeping habits since I'm 16 years old, now I'm 32 years old, it means I have been sleeping badly since half of my life now. Even having a strong spiritual practice and commitment, this is the number 1 issue that put me down in life, all the effort i do in life are often affected by my bad sleep.
    I don't understand why I keep having this bad habits knowing that every morning when i wake up, i feel really bad because i went to sleep after midnight and i feel tired already... I cumulate fatigue and i feel angry and grumpy all day, but when night come i feel better and want to enjoy this moment of peace around 10pm and 12pm. Just sometimes when i feel so tired i go to sleep before 11pm and once a week I don't put alarm clock and sleep in the morning to recover of lack of sleep.
    In September 2019 i went in an ashram, i succeed for 2 weeks to go to sleep at 9:45pm and wake up at 5am, it was amazing and i thought i was over my bad habits, but it was still hiding somewhere and it came back. And even still leaving in the ashram i struggle with my sleep so much.
    Your video inspired me, it's not new information for me though. Maybe I need to find what's behind this inability to change my habits, what do you think ?
    Thank you for reading 🙏🏼

      Its possible that the problem is profound. But i doubt that. I believe for you it is just a matter of habit. And the more you follow the good habit of sleeping early, the easier it will be for you to sleep early. I suggest you keep a written log of your sleeping time. And go on competing with yourself to chalk up longer and longer strings of continuous nights that you slept in good time. After some time it will become your way of life. And even when after that you are occasionally forced by circumstances to remain awake longer than you prefer, you will ASAP go back to your good well established habit. This habit comes gradually, but it is so very much worth it!

      i'm not qualified or anything but i guess you'll just have to power through some days reducing or stopping coffee until the dependency goes away. also even though you will definitely not feel like doing it while feeling awful, some exercise does a pretty good job of pulling the body out of the groggy state

      Aeson's approach has a good chance of working if you not only add good cardio-vascular exercise, but also drink plenty of water all day long, including lemon water with a dash of salt. That will help so caffeine-related toxins causing addiction are minimized. Plus you need very regular bowel movements, especially early morning after waking. If bowel movements not regular, you can take some Triphala just before sleeping to assist in that. Otherwise toxins being released from avoiding the caffeine feel terrible. Better to get the toxins out through your urine, sweat and stool -- instead of them not coming out and circulating in your body making you feel awful.

    Medidation practice doesn't help it (at least for now).
    In general, I have a tendency to sleep as much as I could (to hide away from this cruel and punishing reality where nothing is possible to do, to make life less stressfull).
    Is it some sort of a disease? ... Well, it defenetly a mental disease...

      Dharmaviira -- I remember you! How are you and your family?? As to your question, it seems like it got cut off while you were writing it. Do i dare suggest that you fell asleep while writing it? No, never! Anyway as to what you can do -- when one must stay awake in the nights, its most important for every other element of your life to get as much regularity as possible. This includes water drinking, exercise, kiirtan and meditation, asanas. And very important that food be very easy to digest, and as far as possible never heavy. Plus get some exposure to sunlight on your skin. If you do your best in these other spheres, and if truly you have no choice but to work in the night, then Life will adjust itself for you. In any case, i suggest you put in a request to the hospital that you only work in the daytime, and keep politely repeating that request until it finally gets granted.

    Namaskar dadajii! I so love this video! It was beautifully explained! I learned a lot! I already shared this with my friends and students whom I know always sleep late. I think this will help them understand that they really have to change their sleeping pattern, especially in this lockdown season. Ever since this lockdown, most of the people are on social media. Some even don't sleep at night and will instead sleep in the morning. This video at least will help them understand what they are actually doing with their bodies. Yes, they might be staying at home but they aren't taking care of themselves really well (through lack of sleep) and that will still make them prone to the virus and any diseases. Thank you very much for this video dadaji! Hope in your next video, you will talk about how to get rid of insomnia because a lot of my friends are struggling with that especially during this time that they somehow adapted a really weird sleeping pattern... • @MeditationSteps
      @MeditationSteps Před 4 lety +2

      Regarding the best food to stay healthy, i will be explaining in coming videos. As to the main reasons to be vegetarian a) because healthy vegetarian (not heavy fried, sugary, or refined grains) is much easier to digest than meat/fish/eggs b) the essence of goodness is to act in such a way that consciousness is increased in ourselves and in others. But animal eating means destroying highly developed consciousness, as opposed to vegetable eating in which lower consciousness is taken. c) Animal raising is nowadays very harmful to the society. d) Highly developed minds cannot stand to unnecessarily kill or even harm others.

      It is mostly a matter of habit that leads people to believe they function better in the night than in the day. Leaving aside all the science I expressed during the video, it is clear that essentially 100% of yogiis get up early in the morning, enjoy deep meditation, and mostly avoid sleep in the daytime. The time for the yogiis to sleep is always in the night, not in the day. The fact that this is the consensus of yogiis, who are the people who have made endless experiments with their bodies and minds, suggests that exchanging day and night is not the best way.

I’m a morning person and love being awake at 530 or 6 but my system seems to function best if I delay sleep until 11 or midnight. It’s probably not ideal but an early bedtime ends up with me feeling wretched because of broken sleep.

    Dear Dada, I have a problem. I became addicted to the coffee. I don't like it really, but I am from Greece and in Greece and Turkey coffee is a part of the culture. Socially, nothing is better than summer conversation with friends with nicely made cold coffee. I don't enjoy it anymore, but even at work, I take one coffee after another, from the machine, because it reminds me nice conversations with friends. I tried so many times to stop it. May be you could advise me, how to trick my mind and body stopping to be a coffee drinker... Thank you....When I do not have access to coffee I don't drink it, and it seems I do not have any need for a long period, but if I have an access to the coffee - I can't control it..I do not understand...

    • @MeditationSteps
      @MeditationSteps Před 4 lety

      I suggest you drink something else in the place of the coffee. At that moment that you cannot resist the coffee, you need something to drink to replace it, maybe other than water. I suggest you try a variety of possible replacements. In order of best: 1) lemon water with a little salt 2) herbal tea 3) coconut water 4) grain coffee or other coffee substitutes like coconut coffee 5) 100% fruit or vegetable juice with no added sugar. If you usually drink your coffee with sugar, then you may need to have something sweet for the time being to substitute. In that case you can add some stevia. If no stevia or any low-glycemic sweetener available, then use good quality honey.

    Good video but I am unsure about the advice to start sleep at a specific time guided by the clock.
    I live in the UK. In the summer at 9pm the sun is shining and it may not be dark until 11pm. In the winter it is dark by 4pm. We also put the clocks back or forward by an hour every six months. Thus going to sleep at a specific clock time throughout the year does not seem to make much sense.

    • @MeditationSteps
      @MeditationSteps Před 4 lety

      Yes you can adjust your sleeping time slightly by the sun. But i never saw in UK that darkness only came at 11pm. What part of UK is that?

    • @aracna50
      @aracna50 Před 4 lety

      @@MeditationSteps I am in Devon, SW England. In mid-Summer it does not get fully dark until 10pm. I used to live on the west coast of Ireland and sometimes even at 11pm the sky would still be dark blue. Officially it was night time but instinctively it did not feel as though night had arrived.
      The point that I was trying to make in my clumsy way is that I was surprised that you said that the best time to sleep is linked to a specific time on the clock when the that time might represent very different parts of the day depending on the location in the world and the season.
      In the winter it is dark at 4pm, I am in my pyjamas by 5 and feeling ready for bed by 9. In summer I may still be working in the garden at 9 with no thoughts of going to bed.
      In winter I naturally feel like going to bed earlier and getting up later since the night is so long and the temperature so cold. Should I be guided by my feelings or by the clock?

    • @MeditationSteps
      @MeditationSteps Před 4 lety

      By any means get up latest by 6am, and go outside. If you are careful with your awakening and arising time every morning, the night sleeping time will adjust. Because you are asking the question so you must know that too much sleep also has its negative effects.

    What about Moon walkers? Namaskar Dada. I love daylight, and I miss it so much, but I struggle the whole my life to keep good schedule. I did an experiment, while working creatively at home. I was going to sleep when feeling tired and sleeping until I rested well. I need 9 hours of sleep since I remember. And there is no chance after good rest to fall sleep at the same time the day before. So my sleeping hours were rolling forward almost every day. After some time I noticed, that I wake up at Moon rise.
    It is problem for me, because I prefer to wake up at 3-4 a.m. I try to keep the schedule, but soon or later I fall with the flow and my sleeping hours are lost. Have you ever encountered a similar problem?

    • @MeditationSteps
      @MeditationSteps Před 4 lety

      I appreciate you were trying to follow your normal sense of tiredness. But "working creatively" sounds like it is using the computer. When we use computer within 90 minutes of appropriate sleeping time, it tends to stimulate us and change our normal sense of tiredness. Some systematic effort is not unnatural, rather it is a human innovation, i.e. system is natural for humans to help themselves to be healthy and productive. So in my experience best to have clear idea of when it is good to sleep, and make no creative efforts for 90 minutes before sleeping. Then if you wake very early, as you say at 3-4am, after doing some early meditation, then let that period be your most creative time. There's a good change!

      Yes, this is true what you are saying Dada. I can see clearly now, what I am facing. I have a tendency to hiperfocus. I am working on something I would like to share with you, but is not finished yet. And I can feel the breath of the time on my neck. But I think, it is natural for us too, because that technology is a part of our nature. Thank you for that insight.

    Dear Dada, is there a way to stay conscious while the body goes to sleep? I always fall asleep.

    • @MeditationSteps
      @MeditationSteps Před 4 lety

      As you are falling asleep, make every effort to continue with your mantra in coordination with your breath. Lie in the position which is most helpful for you to do this. For many people this position is on the back. You may also keep your tongue curled back in your mouth while falling asleep to help you stay with the mantra as the mind is drifting off. In this way, you may experience that each time you wake up, that the mantra is still there.

    • @dadadharmavedananda2225
      @dadadharmavedananda2225 Před 4 lety

      If that is not enough sleep for you, and i guess it is not enough because you are expressing it as a problem, then how about going to bed a little earlier, like 9pm or latest by 930pm? There are many who have the natural tendency to wake at 4am, including me. This can be a good thing for many people, including me. So if we need more sleep, then we need to sleep earlier. So i too am particular to sleep sufficiently early!

      1) What is your cardio-vascular exercise routine? 2) How much water do you drink between meals? The water also relates to the feeling of hunger even when full. 3) Dopamine is a result of many things which combine together for a good lifestyle, so to know the answer of this for you it would be needed to know much more of what conditions you have and the details of how your lifestyle is.

      Definitely the best would be if you can change to a daytime job, even if it means you will earn less money. But if for some reason it is impossible to change to daytime, by that i mean totally 100% impractical to change -- then please do not worry about it. Rather do your best to adjust with the appropriate number of hours of sleep in a completely dark room. Be sure that your last meal before your sleep is at least about 2 hours before you go to sleep, or your sleep time will mostly be spent in digestion. The key is to maintain the same proportions in all lifestyle elements as you would do in the daytime, but shift them to your reality. And in general eat less heavy food.
