"There's no question that the three games in this GTA Trilogy are all-time classics, but they've unfortunately been remastered with a ham-hand instead of a Love Fist. New features are slight and only partially implemented, visuals are mixed, performance is inconsistent at best, some content is missing, and bugs and glitches abound. @@emilengen7825 Exactly. This game's issues are glaring, objective, and mostly technical, so pretty much everyone is on the same side because there aren't many real differing opinions to oppose. Hence all the comments praising the review as being of unusually high-quality for IGN; everyone agrees this release was a trainwreck, so no one's mad that the reviewer treated it as a trainwreck.
Same reviewers who gave CP77 9 out of 10 that was filled with a lot of bugs and glitches.
You can only trust deep reviewers who don't play on journalist difficulty.
It's mind-boggling why they gave the remastering duties to a mobile games developer.
They were too busy building casinos and flying saucers in GTA Online

That game's way less than a 5/10. Broken and barely operational-- this isn't the standard, middle of the line we should promote. This should be in the 0 to 2 neighborhood in reality. IGN's just made it their job to try and save face for games somewhat.
The biggest positive about this release is how Rockstar themselves accidentally leaked the script source, text sources, internal tools for every game in the trilogy. Which means that the original trilogy and the definitive editions are accidentally fully moddable. Rockstar might go after modders again but with kind of resources, we can make the best versions of both the originals and the definitive editions ourselves

First time I've ever seen a score this low from Rockstar games.
Games are great, the only reason a game ever gets a score below 7 is technical issues, which is the case and inexcusable for a titan like Rockstar. Should have got even less.

IGN did a review of Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition last year, and AOE3 DE wasn't as fuckup as compared to San Andreas DE but they sill gave it a 6.

Why a billion dollar company with lots of employees would outsource 3 of their best games to a studio of just 30 or so people is beyond me.
Considering Rockstar haven't even acknowledged the backlash leads me to believe that they won't even fix the vast amount of issues that the Definitive Edition has. They'll most likely wait for all this to blow over and not fix a damn thing.

what people need to realize is that when a game is released unfinished, just wait a year and if they fix it by then you'll be able to buy it at half the price without all the bugs. And if they don't fix it, so be it, at least you didn't waste your money on it

This was simply a "remaster" of their OLD games put on the hands of a cheap mobile game company, Rockstars themselves did not produce it. I'm just saying that the comparison is not the same, and there still one of the best video game company in the world in matter of production.

Rockstar comfortably resides in the upper most Pantheon of game developers, and this release further highlights a growing problem.
Rockstar knew the game wasn't in a finished state, and they chose to release it anyway, likely to turn a profit during the busy holiday shopping season. "Shoot first and ask for forgiveness later" is becoming mantra of the industry.
It's unacceptable.
As games get bigger and more advanced, the development cycles of yesterday are no longer sustainable. Expectations need to be managed on both sides.
As consumers, we have access to more information than ever. With the cost of games increasing, we must perform due diligence prior to buying. Stop purchasing unfInished games. It's the only way to hold publishers accountable.
Great review. 5 is fair. I’m having fun with them but after the nostalgia wore off, the shooting mechanics are just too archaic to fully enjoy.

Some greedy corp suit at Rockstar took a look at the shitty quality game and decided to go ahead and release it so they could get a sweet holiday cash bonus for releasing the game on time. Combined w/ the fact that they removed prior editions of the game so people can't even buy them anymore and abused the legal system in order to remove modders there's just no excusing Rockstar or Take Two at this point. Anyone who buys this game deserves what they get.

Such fantastic games, they are works of art. Re releasing them intact but useable on modern systems was all that was needed. A full rebuild in a modern engine would have been amazing. This looks more disappointing than Cyberpunk or any EA release

Not really. The score implies that there’s still some fun to be had despite its glaring issues. Based on that, a 5 feels spot on IMO.

Remember the old saying that pirating games is bad and is against the law? Well, there have been some exceptions...
We got those games from the old PlayStation 2 days before THAT happened already. When that game trilogy came to reinvent it's source material, everything's not fine. Lots of issues to make GTA fans upset. I'm one of them now. Triple shame on you, Rockstar.

I’m glad to see somebody finally talking about this game in a slightly more positive light. This man’s just summed up the game in a very accurate way.
Positive light? All I’ve seen is people/reviewers talking about this game positively and trying to look on the bright side. I’m glad someone *finally* got brutally honest about the absolute technical disaster these remasters are instead of trying to play the fence.
They should call it Grand Theft Auto Cyber Punk release because this is some Cyber Punk glitches going on here.
Tbh the modded versions of the old games do feel better than the official remasters
