    When I first learned to paint and watched CZcams videos I found that I was trying to paint too fast. Because of all the Timelapse in videos I didn’t know how slow an experienced painter was painting! In my mind I knew it was Timelapse but my eyes kept telling me I needed to make faster strokes, if that makes sense. So I try to frequently remind beginners that I’m working slowly.

      You're so right! I'm going to apologise, right now, to the Canadian tutorialist to whom l suggested she would get more viewers if she shortened her videos, which are mostly painted in real time. There's a need for people like her!

      One trick I do is slow down the CZcams video speed and mute the sound. That way it slows it down enough for me to follow.

    Perseverance is the factor I use.
    As Dory from “Nemo” says, “Just keep on swimming…”
    I loved the tutorial on the loose rocks as they are intimidating.

      Thank you for sharing, perseverance is a quality. And at first I picked the photo for the rocks because i know how hard to paint many find them.

    I find there’s rarely an ugly stage (for me) as long as the foundational drawing is on point 😌 take it slow and work light until you are ready to go dark, and do not fear contrast.

    If the reference photo was in view to us, it would really show what a difference it was from beginning to finished. This was very helpful, i love how yoh did rocks,,pulling some color out to make shapes! Your very creative! Greetings from PA, USA ❤

    I always enjoy every steps using watercolors, and I don't see the ugly stage on this beautiful piece 🥰 but, It's very important to people understand all the stages, because sometimes, they believe the final artwork is done quickly and don't have layers... and that's why I love this subject ❤❤❤ thank you!

    Whatever my subject matter is a landscape or an animal it didn’t get to that stage in an hour so I try to remind myself I cannot render it always that fast. So nature took time I tried to give myself some time and realize that there’s layers there life has layers.

    The dry brush of the sand color on the white boat is clever. It looks like a fibreglass boat.

      Thank you Brett, I actually just "copied" the rust effect from the reference. It's still nice because all this white needed a small touch of something 🙂

    Oooohhhh - there's actually a name for what I'm feeling?! Whew! I just thought that sketch was a failure. I'm not doing watercolor and I'm not painting anything "realistic". It's just an abstract....doodle (?) But I hate it and I'm ready to throw it away. But, you've given me an idea - where can I add color and/or contrast to make what I've got "pop"? I'll try it. Thanks for the lesson.

    I love the principles you are teaching here. Contrast is key which is why layering is important, isn't it? The final image is so different from what you started with.

    Thank you so much for this video such a joy to watch you paint. I call myself an experienced beginner have been watercolor painting for a year and half. I now understand contrast is part of my issue. I have some completed painting projects that I thought were just bad but I think they lack contrast in part (maybe they are just not finished). I found myself asking if a work compete while painting and this video really demonstrates completeness as well. I would like to be an impressionist style painter but I a still searching for my individual painting style.

      Yes you can improve upon a "failed" painting easily especially if it wasn't too dark to begin with!🙌

    The problem with watercolor or inks is that the layer fix can make it worse or mud. I found some ways around it by using different brands and thin layers. Helps i started in art with just black inks which have no give. Thanks for the video beautiful piece.

    Is there a rule to follow when mixing colors? Such and mixing warm with cool colors?

    • @paintingandchocolate
      @paintingandchocolate  Před měsícem

      Honestly I never bothered with all the theory, and it always works for me to stick to a limited palette and make sure to have these few colors all over even if not noticeable, to create harmony. For example if there's a lot of a brown color in one spot i might add a tad of one of my other colors to it (say red), even if it's not very noticeable, to "link" this part to another part of the painting if that makes sense.I hope this helps.

    Amazing, so helpful. I find there's an ugly stage in writing too! I have a question. I'm usually overwhelmed in landscapes by the proliferation of natural forms like trees and rocks. Are you attempting to paint the rocks that are actually in the photo or scene, or are you "making them up" as a sort of approximation. Or are you doing some on between, where you capture the most prominent rocks as they really are, but make up other minor details? Thanks!

    I'm curious as to why you call techniques and some skill a trick? These are not tricks. Tricks are when you deceive someone. I hope you find a different term.

    • @paintingandchocolate
      @paintingandchocolate  Před měsícem +4

      For someone who didn't know how transformative it is it's à trick. Maybe not when you have integrated it as a technique after practicing it a lot.

    • @nonamepainter
      @nonamepainter Před měsícem +5

      For someone who wants to police other's language, you don't know what you're talking about. 'Trick' has many definitions including: •a skillful act performed for entertainment or amusement and
      •a clever or particular way of doing something. Her use of the word was both accurate and catchy considering she has to craft titles for an algorithm.
