The backstory of this song is so beautiful. Kiedis' was with Nina Hagen (a punk rock singer) and he saw a leather jacket. He told her it was "really cool" and without even thinking, she said he should keep it. She said it was because "if you have a full closet and someone sees something they like, if you give it to them, the world is a better place." It stuck with Kiedis forever. He said "Every time I'd be thinking 'I have to keep,' I'd remember 'No, you gotta give away instead.'" He said he learned a lot from Nina, who was older than he was, and would impart her wisdom on him. Kiedis said "she was always passing on gems to me, not in a preachy way, just by seizing on opportunities."

I could never pick a favorite. just like everyone's been asked at least once (especially in north amerika) in their life, no matter how young they are, or how low they score on a test designed to accurately show in percentages, their musical attributes, ex. passion, genetic disposition or in other words someone who seems to have a lot of natural talent that they didn't even know about, as opposed to somebody who seems to have 0 genetic predisposition and has to learn every little thing and then practice it a lot to commit it to memory.
anyway the question I am referring to was asked of me throughout my life more times then I can possibly remember. the only thing I do know, for sure, is it's been over 100 times in the 42 years I've been alive so far, so I'll just say between 100 and 200. but back to the question that I am so often asked, it is usually 3, 5, or10 to 1 (1 being your absolute favorite) the question is more or less "what would your list include?"
I always answer that question as simply and as honestly as I can with a response a lot like "I simply wouldn't even know where to begin, there is way too many good songs, bands, genres' ext.out there for me to make any kind of list, no matter how long."
besides I honestly believe anyone who can respond to that question with an actual list or lists, isn't listening to their preferred music properly or with just a fraction of the depth of passion required to enjoy it at the proper level it was meant to be enjoyed at.
anyways I know that was kinda long and rambly like, but something about the six pretty much simplistic words that you chose caught my eye and I instantly thought of this and so much more.I guess I just wanted to point out to you and anyone who reads your short line and also this reply that the strangest things can come from the smallest and most innocent looking place.

My dad always said he wished I could know how awesome it was to grow up in the 1950’s. I looked at him deep into his souls and was like “dad. I grew up in the late 80’s early 90’s. Shit was way better than the 1950’s!” Man especially after the Cold War ended with no nuclear war threats. You could literally eat, get drunk, smoke 2 packs a day and fill up your car with gas over a weekend with only $20 in your pocket. Then I was out of the country from 1993/95 and 96-98. I missed those precious years but I’m now catching up on all the movies I missed.

I still remember when I heard this the first time. I drove a schoolbus for a short time, it was for children with special needs, a small bus, few kids only and a long long journey each day...
