Chelsea speaks with money expert and journalist Farnoosh Torabi about her new book, A Healthy State Of Panic, and the pressure we put on ourselves as women, especially for those growing up first gen.

It would not be a Chelsea segment without the phrase “suffice to say” 😂
"It's quite a surprise that you're acquainted with her as well. I've had the privilege of gaining significant profits while learning and investing under her guidance for the past few months. JENNY PAMOGAS CANAYA truly stands out as one of the most exceptional mentors and traders I've had the pleasure of collaborating with in recent years. Her expertise in navigating various market situations is truly remarkable."`
I am not the daughter of immigrants, but like Chelsea, low-income parents, and now I have moved socioeconomic class. And I could not feel more seen than I did in this episode.
Fear of failure is a BIG one for me. I'm the only one in my family who took the entreprenurial path.
yes sabine
The breastfeeding part was so interesting. In czech republic mothers are forced to take 3 years minimum maternity leave (daycare up to that age is both expensive and not everywhere) and sometimes stay home until 4th year because even public daycare is full. Conservatives are screaming even if there is a political debate about having more choice for women and the judgement of being "bad mum" because "career" is very real
First gen here and I always had trouble reading fiction. I think there was so much I could learn outside of it and never saw how it would possibly help me. Never thought about it until now.
So when she mentioned 30 Rock and Excel, did all our minds go directly to Liz Lemon going "Oh god, this whole thing can be a spreadsheet!"?
I also stopped breastfeeding my son for similar reasons and it’s heartwarming to hear that other woman also made same decision
Such an incredible episode, i resonated a lot as a first generation immigrant from middle eastern middle class background.
Parent shaming is so real!! People need to realize there is no right way to raise a kid. Most parents are doing the best they can!! 😊
I’m reading the book now. Such a good read! I’m giving myself the permission to lean into my fears and uncover what it really telling me
Who went back to look at the haircut? ✋🏾
🫶🏼my fave two ladies together again? Yes!!! Wow! Such a good episode! I could listen to you talk about being child free by choice ALL day! I am here for it!!! 👏 👏 👏 also, congratulations to you both your books! Will definitely be purchasing!
This was good thanks 😂❤
Great episode per usual! Although I would say that the sign of a crisis is when a woman shaves her head (coming from someone who shaved their head in 2021)
You looked great!
This is already such an awesome episode! And yes, writing books is hard as someone who thinks about writing lol
Today’s equation: Blunt Bangs = Crisis
My haircut is the most reliable predictor of my mental health
Can you share your favorite quince pieces? I was already looking into them before your video!
Hi. I bought bamboo sheet sets from Quince 4 years ago and love them to this day. They are comfortable and easy to wash and care for. I hope this helps.
44:26 I wouldn't call being able to bounce back from setbacks "fear". I would call that "grit"
Yes, this! I also have the fear/anxiety as a child of immigrants and eldest daughter, but the things that I think have served me best (just looking around at other people) are tenacity and resilience. These I hope to pass to my kids, but I'm not sure how much is just innate or not.
Time codes pls !!!
I like Chelsea and I have a good impression of Farnoosh from what I have seen but I remain VERY skeptical that these two women grew up “low income” or had “humble beginnings”.
Once you become a parent the entitlement ends. You adquiere perspective something that most of entitled people lack.
I tell my kid. Mommy has money bc I work. You are poor and you have no money. When you are older, you can create your own wealth.
Breastfeeding is one of the most beautiful experiences of love and connection I have ever lived.....
Please be careful rejecting breastfeeding and claiming it has no benefit since you weren't breastfed. Yes we need better resources for birthing and lactating parents, but breastfeeding is recommended in hospital and medical settings because there is real data behind the advantages, not only for the birthing parent but for setting up baby for a healthy future and fighting infection. Supplementing for the overnight feed is always an option as is pumping, also the non lactating partner can and should be involved in doing more. As a physician we need to do more to support people capable of pregnancy and birthing whether they choose to have children or not, but we also need to provide parents with the most evidenced based recommendations which includes breastfeeding.
This is literally the mommy shaming shit that she was talking about. You didn’t have to leave this comment.
There's also evidence to show that formula has improved in providing good nutrition as well. At this stage, we are well aware of the benefits of breastfeeding. What we lack is a modern understanding of what's in formula.
Plus, we have ways for a child's immune system to build up: vaccines and the natural building up of a child's immune system by _not_ being too clean with anti-bacterial soaps. Around the time breastfeeding became popular, was around the time you couldn't bring pb&j sandwiches to school because so many more children were allergic than there ever were...
This comment is so unnecessary. She’s not saying it’s not good, just that everyone makes their own calculation of risk/reward
@@hollyclark4518 Baby formula is highly regulated, so in some places, including the US, you cannot give _unapproved_ formula, like formula made in Europe that the FDA hasn't approved.
No one is _against_ breastfeeding, no need to make things up
I don't think anyone is against breastfeeding, but those calculations don't take in the health and well-being of the breastfeeding parent. Regardless of data around bf and formula, a happier healthier parent is going to have a much bigger impact on the outcomes for baby.
I thought breastfeeding was the best / easiest thing I’ve ever done.
