Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru) (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese kawaii metal band consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" and Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal". The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band" at performances.
The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Su-metal (vocal and dance), Moametal (scream and dance), and Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal" (scream and dance), with the concept of creating a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. Originally a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became an independent act in 2013, following Nakamoto's departure from Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal released their eponymous debut album in February 2014. Their second album Metal Resistance was released worldwide in April 2016. Babymetal has also embarked on several tours, with a majority of their tour dates taking place outside of Asia. The group released their third album Metal Galaxy in October 2019.
On October 19, 2018, Babymetal announced that Yui Mizuno had decided to leave the band due to poor health, following her absence from live performances since December 2017. Since her departure, the band has performed with backup dancers at live performances. In 2019, the band introduced three backup dancers called "Avengers" who performed in rotation at each live show to form a trio with Moametal and Su-metal.

This was a world premiere at Makuhari Messe 2023 setlist, along with "THE LEGEND", Momoko Okazaki is the third backup dancer performing here and possibly the new official member. MoaMetal once again adding the backing vocals and all of them dancing once again with the full trio formation.

When I heard this song live, I had the same impression as "Syncopation", a fusion of CITY POP and METAL that was popular in Japan in the 90s. 😁.
Nevertheless I wonder where SU is taking his breath away, it's a busy song for the vocalist 😁 The dance is beautifully synchronized and mesmerizing with his clear voice.

So glad you enjoyed this one. "Light and Darkness" is light years away from my personal musical preferences and I wasn't sure at first about this song. But now that I have listened to it a couple of times (or like 200...) I'm digging it and I'm able to identify some cool aspects apart from the obvious like that drop you commented, the build-up, that unexpected note during the chorus, the subtle guitar work, that double bass pattern, etc. So I'm very happy right now and I can't wait to experience the live version... in person. 😊

I totally agree with you. I initially thought this song was a sugar hit and wouldn’t grow on me but the more I listen to it, I’m liking it more and more. I love Moa’s singing as well. So good!
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。I assume Amuse is currently releasing MVs with live footage + studio sound, in other words "imperfect live video", on purpose, because they have to block their "real live videos" by copyright strike in order to sell them in a form of Blu-ray/DVD. After the two-year long hiatus, this is a good tool to remind people of the attractiveness of BABYMETAL and gain new fans, I believe.
I guarantee that the real audio has more power to stir your feelings. I witnessed this performance last month and was mesmerized at the venue. Although I could not digest everything at the live debut, I finally grasped its artistry as a whole by this MV. This song reminds me of something but it is very difficult to explain it. The part with Su's calm voice makes me uneasy about something. The part with her powerful timbre and decisive facial expression together with sharp moves by Moa and Momoko makes me decisive for something. The problem is "what the hell is my 'something' ?" Please stop shaking and teasing my emotions, BABYMETAL! 😡 😄
I was at this concert and it was wonderful. There will be a Blu-Ray later this year, but for now these music videos is all there is. Hideki Aoyama was the drummer, I'm pretty sure (though with the masks, who knows).
If you haven't yet, I recommend watching their earlier concert videos, too. As far as live videos go: Road of Resistance (Live in Japan), Headbanger (Legend 1997), Babymetal Death (Legend 1997), Rondo of Nightmare (with the Mischiefs of Metal intro, from Budokan Black Night), etc. You'll have to watermark the videos to avoid blocking. (And avoid the compilation videos-they're nowhere near as impressive.)
For non-live, BxMxC and Megitsune have great official music videos, and given your comments so far I suspect you'd enjoy those, too.
SU's voice is now much more matured and mellower.

This was shot at the same show at Makuhari Messe in late January as Metal Kingdom.
The drones buzzing around the performance was kind of odd. I did wonder what would happen if one malfunctioned or the pilot screwed up.
They showed the concert on Wowow in Japan yesterday so there will probably be bootlegs of that floating around if you want to take to the high seas to find it. There will be an official BD released sometime in the next couple of months too, but I don't think the release date has been announced yet.
If the pilot screwed up he would get tossed in the frog pit lol

But I think this show had no pyro (well, maybe at very end) ? That very much might be important to make sure no hot air pockets exist.

They obviously have everything planned to the very last detail for every show so the safety risks are at a minimum but it’s still wild to see stuff like this now.
@@shizzyreacts the company Babymetal is part of Amuse and their choreographer Mikiko have pretty extensive experience with drowns in shows. I think you can't react to the American's Got Talent performance, I worry it would get blocked, but if you want to see what Mikiko's dance group does, just check out: ELEVENPLAY x RZM 24 drones. (don't know if you want to do a reaction, that's all up to you)
They are supposed to be releasing the blu-ray of the shows in March.
Might have to buy a Blu-Ray for the first time in ages haha.

I am not sure if they will upload the album same day as release as that would be unfair to those who have pre ordered but have not yet received their copy due to our amazing international shipping delays right now, but who knows? I don't think they have done a release in this way before, normally they debut the songs at concerts well before they put out the album so it isn't such a big deal, I know myself I would be disappointed if people were getting the songs for free when I paid for them before me, also the full concert dvd probably won't be until July if they follow how they normally do things, they do however stream a shorter version of the concert in Japan I think that is soon and there will be bootleg versions of that uploaded, but I have decided not to watch those as I want to wait for the real thing.
Babymetal, now is a monster of rock, amasing, epic, wanderfull, like black sabbath, iron maiden, judas priest, metallica, okey.
