Will aurora affect radio communication? If my memory serves, thoeries I learnt in telecommunication industry forty odd years ago was that ionosphere governs radio/magnetic wave activities. The methodology adopted for telecommunication back then was short wave transmission. There was a phenomenon called Dellinger fadeout at which solar radiation affects ionization in ionosphere and in turn interrupts radio wave((of lower frequencies) propagation. We are using much higher frequency microwave transmission these days. The impact of solar radiation on radio communication will be less drastic.

You are right. Ionised solar storm my not directly interfere radio waves. Some say they can possibly cause short or long power cuts. Disruptions to electronic communications are mainly caused by longer power outages but can also occur when currents are induced in the copper lines of the telecoms network, damaging equipment. Especially those satellites flying around in space.
