This is an in-depth look at how I build and paint the desert bases for my Tau force.. These are different to the rocky desert bases ive made a tutorial on previously.. I hope you enjoy and get a lot out of it :)

Thanks this is going to be great for my baal themed BA bases. Tyranid carnage instead of lichen though. And texture rolled temple floors (broken/shattered) instead of cork.

I was particularly looking for how you approach painting your tau (your pic feed indicates you're working tau again). But I would have watched any and all.
Hi man. yes im working on tau again but using different techniques. im going for the same colour scheme as you see here but with no airbrushing. so im experimenting with techniques to find a good medium. i sold the tau you see here and started a new army in order to avoid having to airbrush any models. ive gone off airbrushing, its incredibly stressful! lol

really love this tutorial, hoping to have ago myself tomorrow. Still I can never tell if I prefer the rim to stay the same colour as the base coat or if I like to paint it black like you did.
thanks man! hope you have fun making your own :) i used to paint the rim with the base colour also, but then i realised it made the bases look too big. the black becomes almost invisible when youre not concentrating on it making the bases look more natural :) cheers
I took your advice and went for black rim around the base, I agree it really does help frame the terrain thanks for the advice :)

Lucifer hi mate! Actually the ork bases are very simple. I use 3mm cork tile broken up into slabs. I base with chaos black spray and drybrush with dawnstone and then drybrush with administratum grey. I paint the rim black again and apply mordheim tufts to them. Nice and fast! 😀
