- One of the most dramatic stuff-ups in the history of Australian live television.
Just before 9.30 tonight, Sarah Murdoch announced the winner of "Australia's Next Top Model".
Unfortunately, she read out the wrong name.
While Kelsey Martinovich was celebrating winning a car, a New York modelling contract, a $25,000 ad campaign, $20,000 cash and the cover of a national magazine, Sarah Murdoch's drop jopped, she brought her hand to her mouth, started tearing-up and was left speechless. The coin-drop moment for Sarah Murdoch is at the 2'32" mark.
Of course there's a happy ending for one southeast Queensland woman, Amanda Ware, who was then awarded (all together now) a car, a New York modelling contract, a $25,000 ad campaign, $20,000 cash and the cover of a national magazine!
But someone would have had their backside kicked after this. Watch carefully and you'll see the magazine cover change (projected onto the set) before Sarah Murdoch reveals the mistake.

The host said later that the reason she said the wrong name was because they never told her who the winner was in her ear piece, they were out of time or something. Since the other girl won the last round, the host assumed that it was her who won.
I don't understand why they didn't tell the host before hand who had won, even if it was live, she should have already been informed. The contestants handled it well though.

Anorexia is an eating disorder, not how skinny someone is jeez >.< I had a friend who looked anorexic yet she was as healthy as anybody else.
I completely understand mistakes and other slip-ups happen on live TV, and being an Australian we're pretty chill-out about TV and these sorts of things anyway, but I felt like the presenter made it totally about her and drew more attention to the slip-up. She could have simply said clearly and sincerely: "I am so sorry, the results were fed to me wrong and the winner is Amanda". Instead she broke down and completely lost control of the situation and had to be consoled by the contestants when she was supposed to be the host?!? Even though there was a slip-up and it was terrible, she needed to remember that it was the WINNER'S MOMENT, not her moment to wallow in her embarrassment. Being beautiful is a great quality for a host of a modelling show but experience and professionalism is the CORE part of the (any) job. If you watch morning TV you'll know how it's done, when they 'lose' connection or when they have to cut 'live' to breaking news immediately, those people handle it daily with such control and professionalism. This woman was a mess!
I dunno about that, at least her breaking down knowing that she was gonna ruin a girls moment showed me that she really did cared and how horrible she feels about it. If she was all professional on the stage and showing no emphathy (saying just I'm sorry simply doesn't count), she'd probably get hate by a lot of ppl.

You have got to understand Sarah knew these girls, they were almost "friends" and Sarah had true consideration and feelings towards all the contestants in Top Model, and she knew she had crushed someones dreams in a completely different manner than what it would otherwise be, Kelsey had it all and it was gone from her in a heartbeat due to her mistake and the tv departments. It's called compassion and understanding.
I agree but at the same time I think it was better that she drew the attention to herself because the girl who was originally named winner avoided more embarrassment than if the woman was cold about it like "Oh, woops, just kidding you didn't win" like the fact that she was upset about it helped so that the other girl would feel less bad about it... you know what I'm trying to say??
I love that host. She feel sorry for making both contestants feel bad about each other. The real winner may feel bad because the other contestant has already say her speech, and here we can how sincere and accepting the other contestant is, even though she knows that she is not the real winner. It takes a really big heart to accept the fact that you're not the winner after you're excitingly giving your speech.
