It's often difficult to choose items for your EDC Keychain (Every Day Carry) without creating an overly large keychain of gear. This often times results in the dreaded "Prepper Bulge". This video documents the items on my current EDC Keychain. I talk about each item in detail, perform a few demos and also discuss the concept of streamlining your keychain items in a compact method to compliment your other EDC items.
    EDC KEYCHAIN ITEMS:
    Foursevens Titanium Whistle
    Kingston DT-SE9 16GB USB Flashdrive
    Leatherman Brewzer
    True Utility Nanolite
    True Utility Cash Stash
    TEC Accessories P-7 Suspension Clip

Hands down, "prepper" video of the year. If we had an awards show, this would win a "preppie".
I've fought the prepper bulge for years, often with mixed results. I'll be adding some of those items directly.

You could replace the light and bottle opener with a Victorinox Midnite Manager, gaining a letter opener, scissors, pen, screwdriver and nail file in the process.

I've ordered a few bits and peices for my keychain. The Telepen and the Cash-Stash arrived today.
I've used the Cash-Stash to put a couple of paracetamol in (I get migraines, but if I catch them early they aren't nearly as bad as if they are left to develop) and the telepen for... do I really need to explain?
I was a little disappointed with the telepen. The pen part (refill) was slightly too small for the cavity it filled. This meant that when you pressed to write, the nib would retract a little. I fixed this by folding a piece of cellophane from a cigarette packet and putting it in the tube to pack it. Works perfectly now.
I also checked out the pocket clip but could not bring myself to pay so much for so little. One of the items ordered was the Thrunite Ti3. I intend to clip that to my pocket and have the other items hang from it. Hopefully this works well so that I can kill two birds with one stone.

Prepper bulge! Oh dear, I was guilty of that until recently. I've slimmed down my keyring carry items, and it's ended up similar to yours. Now I have:
A Timberline +B tool, bottle opener, prying, small blade.
    Energiser Keyring LED torch.
Stainless steel whistle (I have four dogs, I can run out of whistle if I have to do it)
Also, on one of my door keys, I have the True Utility Key Tool, mostly for the tweezers. but it does help differentiate between the two brass Yale keys I have on there.
I've also removed all the individual rings, and now favour the VKTech wire keychain loops, as they aren't rigid (helps with that bunching problem) and it's very simple to add or remove items. I have one loop for tools, and one for keys, with a little dog clip joining them, so I can separate them, which makes unlocking doors easier. I have a 'Remove Before Flight' tab to help pull it all from my pocket, no clip,.. yet I'll look into that.
The old small multitool I used to have on my keychain is now clipped to the karabiner in my walking jacket pocket, alongside another brighter single 'AA' torch.

As I mentioned when we had lunch last week, the telescoping pen was the first thing I bought for my keychain when I started intentionally gathering EDC gear. I've noticed, however, that it has a tendency to slide open a bit in my pocket. Was wondering if you'd noticed it, or if I've got a flawed one (given the fact I spent $10 on it I wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter).

True Utility are based here in the UK but manufacture is outsourced to China, presumably different factories, and I've found their products can vary in quality and utility. I didn't like the 2 older multitools I bought, the Cliptool which I lost within a couple of days, and another one which I keep in a kitchen drawer, the tool selection is pretty poor although the pliers are okay. The Telepen I had on my keychain broke after a couple of months, the pen refill got jammed inside. However I am very happy with the peanut lighter (Firestash) and it lives on my keychain, with my keys and, well, nothing else, to avoid prepper bulge. I keep my Leatherman Squirt PS4, olight e3eos and a small Clipper lighter in my fifth pocket where they fit snugly. I always carry another knife - must be a slipjoint with a blade under 3 inches to be legal EDC here - whether that be a SAK on a separate carabiner, suspended from a belt loop in a back pocket - or a dedicated (non-locking) folder with a pocket clip, at the moment I favour my Manly Wasp , or Bokerplus Atlas if I want to go ultra-slim.

May I recommend the utili-key by Swiss gear. It has a bottle opener function along with two different knife blades (I'm sure you could file them down for security) it also has a Philips and flathead screwdriver I have one and would probably choose it over the leather man bruiser. Just a friendly suggestion and best of luck in your future preps.

Hi there. Thx for the vid. My EDC keying is similar. Only difference is the "cash stash" usage. I have one for cash (as foreseen); a note of €10 is fine. Though, I find your approach for medication EDC VERY resourceful. I will adopt it by getting a second "c/s". Let me add a suggestion to play safer: to jot down the expiration dates in a tinny piece of paper and stash this in as well. It can be as tinny as can be, so long one can scribble the data and simply stash in/out with the tweezers of a Swiss Army Knife. Cheers! George.

I'm puzzled about the usb drive. If we ever get in a situation where we need these things to save our life, what good will it do? Even if it will do some good, what if we have to get wet to escape an emergency. Will it still work after you dry it out?

    • @Michael-xo8lw

In a situation such as TEOTWAWKI or the zombie apocalypse, sure, the usb drive won't help. nor will it filter spring water for contaminants. but, barring that, considering the ubiquity of computers in present society, a USB that has essential docs is very smart.

AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ... XD thanks! Brewzer is also a great box opener / digger thingy with the pointed nib at the end. Don't have to try a bunch of keys to find a sharp one anymore.

"Prepper bulge" comment reminded me of Cabin In the Woods and the "husband's bulge!"

I have a prepper bulge and I carry it proudly.
    Still, excellent video.
