A great vid Sebastian. A lot of people will find this helpful. Definitely confusing with the naming, but very glad Dior decided to re-release DH Original with nearly the same juice. I cherish my silver stem bottle like it was gold. Which...it kinda is. The liquid colour at least. 💛

After much deliberation, I finally pulled the trigger and bought DHI 2020. Yes, it was a blind buy and I have to admit, it smells fantastic! I thought I would never like anything powdery or lipsticky type notes but DHI 2020 was one of the best purchase!

I really hope they never discontinue Dior Homme Original. I’d be willing to even pay more for an “exclusives” line or something.
Why is it so hard for these houses to simply stick with what works? They create something that becomes recognizable and iconic, then reformulate or change it completely.
Sometimes it's because some notes aren't as popular anymore so sales go down = reformulation into something more modern, and other times, it's because some notes become "illegal" or cannot be used in fragrances bc of allergy reasons or other reasons. It's sad really - but yeah.
Although I was trying to find the iris in Dior Homme 2020, it's still one of the best cologne releases in the past few years.

Thanks dude, you just saved me from not opening a new purchase of this so called Dior Homme(2020) The sales Assitant (Dior) said yes its the original..(wish that i sniffed the sample before buying it!!) The Original is my all time favourite smell..!...NOT this version & your right it has nothing to do with the original, i've been wearing & buying since late 2004 ,last bottle 2019, wish that i brought more before they changed the fragrance/box! If you have never smelled the original, then you won't know the difference but i can tell you, the original is 1000 times better YES ..i'm not joking, could i get use to the 2020 version ..absoulutely not.. ! (it gives me a headache..lol ) Totally different smell ! & Thanks for your video! Bless!

Dior Homme 2020 has grown on me
I have had a few bottles of Dior Homme over the years. I feel like the older formulations were longer lasting and the powdery note you get at the beginning was more prominent in the older formula.

People throw shade at the 2020 one. And I understand it’s different from the older ones and leans more mainstream style which is mass appealing. But it is one of my signature scent. And trust me, I’m not the type to get much designers. I love my niches. I have more than 20 niches and about 5-8 designers and only the ones that I think are worthy. And Dior homme 2020 is bloody brilliant. I think people need to start giving it a try. It is easy to wear just about any time. It is mass appealing and the blend is nice too.
There's nothing wrong with it but it's been done many times before. I'd be very happy with it if they didn't call it Dior Homme! :)
@@ThePerfumeGuy I can agree on that. They could’ve gone for another name, but I suppose ‘homme’ the name always resides with the original of any many brands mass appealing fragrance, so they wanted to give it a fresh start and make it simpler but it only makes it more confusing lol.
But all in all, it is a great scent

It's like they were going for the New Coke (remember that?) except that both the old Coke and the New Coke were both made available at the same time in they USA by Coca Cola. I don't understand Dior's marketing decisions. It's enough that DHP and DHI aren't officially available in the USA, but why only sell Dior Homme Original in France? Is it possible that they can't meet their price point if they have to purchase enough iris to satisfy the huge North American market?
You're right about naming the 2020 version Dior Homme. It's beyond confusing and stupid. I think Dior needs an overhaul and it seems like they know it. They discontinued the wonderful Fahrenheit flankers & Dior Homme Eau (so underrated) and everything is focused on Sauvage. So boring even though I like Sauvage. It's time for something NEW and groundbreaking like Dior Homme was back in the day. I'm wearing the 2020 version today and I like it but it's not as good as the original. I hated it at first because I was like wtf is this?? But it's pretty good.

@@bwcastillo I wasn't a big fan of the original since I am not a big fan of the lipstick I like soapy iris like the Prada l"Homme . But Fragcom needs to realize they are a small fish in the pond and Dior and other Big fragrance houses want to make a profit. Here in Europe Dior probably still have to customers who buy the original I heard in America wearing perfume daily is still not accepted as a norm like here, guess it is something only women do?!

When i heard the rumor of DH edt being reformulated in the 2020 one..i got my hands on the older formulation and some back ups as well...I did beat the DH Original and am glad i did get back ups.........I like the old scent. I also..When Dior Homme Parfum came out yrs ago I jumped on that..and since its so concentrated and lasts forever...I still have 2/3 of that bottle still....I LOve DHParfum so much.....
Dior 2020 versions sell very cheap at the moment in Europe.
Dior home versions 2021/2022 are more expensive.

I am looking forward to what Kurdjian will bring to the table, though hopefully no axing of Dior Homme Original, Intense, or Parfum. (Or Fahrenheit, or Eau Sauvage Parfum, for that matter)
Dior Homme 2020 is AMAZING…I absolutely LOVE the wood & spice focus of this version as it’s extremely masculine!!👍 Definitely prefer it over the original as the iris in that one takes it into a feminine direction I just don’t care for.

I like Dior Homme 2020 and I'm certain most people would like it but I will never LOVE it and I can't imagine many getting particularly enthused by it/thinking it's special/revolutionary.
The use of Iris in the Dior Homme (Original and Historical) made those that did enjoy it LOVE it and attach the significance and sentimentality to it. Time will tell whether 2020 leaves the same incredible legacy (it won't)
I think people are more disappointed with the discontinuation of the original in the states. And the fact that it was replaced. 2020 is definitely a solid fragrance but it should’ve been a flanker not a replacement. They could’ve called it Dior Homme Boisee or something like that.

Great video. Wish I'd seen this before I refreshed my Dior Homme supplies. Was only when I got home and started using the new Dior Homme that I got a real shock at how different the new one is!!.
Ever since Dior altered the composition of their 2011 Dior Homme, I've stopped using perfume altogether. Dior Homme 2011 was my go-to scent, a daily ritual since the year it came out. I thought it was a bit absurd to modify the scent's formula but retain its original name. Now, I'm considering trying the "Dior Homme Original," with the hope that it closely resembles the 2011 version. Out of curiosity, would you consider parting with any 2011 bottles you might still have in your possession?

Prior the very first reformulation in 2011, the "original" one from 2005 to 2010 had a silver tube instead of black. It was a bomb of iris, pretty much what Dior Homme Intense is now in my opinion.

thank you for clearing that up, just ordered one with silver stem on picture, hopefully they send me the one they showed and not the black stem, but on website it showed written 2005 version, and picture clearly showed silver stem. it was a small bottle 1.7oz
I think they changed the “original” (the new one). Out of the box the previous version smelled richer and lasted longer. There’s a weird new note in the opening of the new “original”
The new one isn't horrible. It smells similar to other designer fragrances that have been on the market for many years. Definitely not bottle worthy for me. I'd keep it if I got it as a gift. Although I'd get it over Bleu De Chanel.

I can’t stand the 2020 version. I’ve been wearing the original Dior Homme since 2014 and nothing compares to it. I have maybe 150ml left and only wear it on special occasions. It’s also very confusing calling it the same name. The only way you can tell which you’re looking at is the colour of the formulation. The original is much lighter than the newer dark formulations

Awesome video Sebastian. I've been on a huge Dior kick lately. Managed to get my hands on three bottles of 2011 Homme, a bottle of Parfum and a bottle of the discontinued? Eau. Homme 2020 is definitely a crowd pleaser (scent of the day for me today) and more of a daily driver than 2011 Homme, although not as good in my opinion. Intense is also very good. Waiting on my bottles of pre-reform Sport and Cologne to come in. Excited for those. Trying to find a bottle of Original now but don't know if I'll have any luck.

Smelling from my silver stem bottle purchased on eBay and I think it’s super distinct from anything in the USA Today. Very curious to see if Original or 2011 are truly similar (haven’t smelled). It’s really one of a kind and my first signature scent back when I was younger
If I have to choose one from DH line then I would only go for DHP. It is so classy & very long lasting. Whole day you can smell on yourself 🥰

I adore DH Intense SO much, I wear it. My husband doesn’t like it but he loves DH2020, and I really love 2020 too! In fact I wear it, even though it’s very masculine to me…but I crave the aroma sometimes.

dior homme 2020 is fantastic.....i dont know why reviewers are acting like perfumers....its FANTASTIC ....iso e super make lasts all day and u or someone else surely will get whiff of it.... yes its not groundbreaking smell but it get job done ...sometimes u want to smell fresh and pleasant

@@ThePerfumeGuy it was Olivier Polge who created Dior Homme that was released in 2005, then Demachy reformulated it in 2011.
You can really feel the difference in the scent, too. Shows what each perfumer is about, polge being much more classic and defined, Demachy using broad strokes and feeling like you have to stand back from the perfume for it to make sense

I like DH2020. Never liked iris so never bought DH Original, Intense or Parfum. Do own DH Sport and DH Cologne and love them both.

I have Dior Homme Intense and Dior Homme Eau for Men…should I really consider the Original? Eau is already a fresher version, and Intense is a little sweeter/richer.

I purchased this for my around January this year. It pulls very Iris on his skin, I do also notice musk and of course woods but the Iris is what makes me want to take it from him and use it for myself. I wish I had smelled the original version when we were recently in Europe.

I don't think they went though the trouble of making a new bottle for the parfum and intense and re launching the original just to discontinue the whole thing.
My husband love Dior Homme Intense but I think I love it more than he does. I love it when he wears it and I can smell it off of him. It quite sexy.
I think when I ask a friend to get me a bottle of Dior Homme at a local store without clarifying this story we would't be friends anymore... Very confusing indeed. Imagine the conversation with the person at the counter when they launch more flankers.

I found a silver stem bottle from 2005 that says DIOR on the silver stem .. the original version olivier polge did and i find it the best version of dior homme. That Iris is amped up and even though i spent over 200 bucks on 100ml i think i got a steal considering the crap they are selling now a days and calling it dior homme 2020. I would have forced demachy to "retire" too after that botched dior homme 2020 release. What better fragrance sums up the train wreck that was 2020 than Dior homme 2020.

Calling it a "Train Wreck" is giving it too much credit. A Train Wreck is worthy of attention...Dior Homme 2020 is more of a Weather Report on a slightly above average day.
Sebastian, I'm from the UK and the Dior Homme original that I can buy on the Dior website is the EDT. I like the 2020 Parfum, but I would like the original Parfum. Is the EDT original similar to the Parfum or very different? I'm interested in that iris lipsticky powder and leather vibe that the pre 2020 Parfum is said to have. The Dior website has no original Parfum only original EDT.
The original and the new Original are mostly the same to me. 😀

So the one I see in stores is 2020? It's a silver box...and the juice looks more clear than either of the ones in the vid. So confused.

Dior Homme 2020, also known as Dior "Where the money's at"! It wasn't needed to dilute the Homme line with this fragrance... They could have just launched it under a different name... Like, D24!! 😈😁🤣

100% agree with you Sebastian, New Fragrance should get a New Name. Moving from EDC to EDT to EDP to Parfum to Extrait should really mean the %s are moving. Instead they outright change the notes. Dior is so guilty of this! And even the Eau Savage/Savage thing causes confusion in people who aren't really into fragrances. Maybe this all makes sense in France.
If all they changed was the fragrance base oil percentage, then just spray more EdT to achieve Parfum smell. If each spray of both gave out x amount of juice, and the Parfum was 2x as concentrated as the EdT, then spray 2 sprays of the EdT to equal 1 spray of the Parfum. Traditionally, the Parfum is supposed to share the same DNA as the other releases but made with more expensive ingredients to make it more precious. It isn't just supposed to be the EdT concentrated.
