  • To call someone a racist is a serious charge. Conservatives are accused of racism by the left on a daily basis. Are the accusations fair? Or is something else going on? Derryck Green of Project 21 provides some provocative answers.

    Script:
Every single day someone of prominence on the left-a politician, a cable news host, an entertainment figure-accuses someone on the right of being a racist.
    Here are typical examples:
MSNBC host Chris Matthews said this: “The age of Jim Crow managed to find a new habitat in the… 21st-century Republican Party."
Comedian Seth Meyers told his late-night audience that Republicans traffic “in open racism.”
Tennessee state representative London Lamar, a black woman, announced that the entire state of Tennessee is “racist. Period.” This was just after she was elected… in Tennessee! And almost every criticism of President Barack Obama was labelled racist.
The left calling the right racist isn’t new. It’s been going on for decades.
Republican Presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George Herbert Walker Bush, his son, George W. Bush were all accused of being racists. And, of course, from the left’s perspective, “racist” is essentially Donald Trump’s middle name.
To call someone a racist is a very serious charge. A racist is a person who believes that one race is inherently superior or inferior to another. It’s not intelligence, character or values that determine an individual’s worth; it’s his or her skin color.
To say that racism is foolish and stupid-not to mention evil-is to understate the case. But according to most Democrats, Republicans are that stupid and that evil.
So, let’s examine some conservative policies to see if they are, indeed, racist. If they are, then the left has a valid complaint. And if they’re not, then the left is lying.
The longstanding conservative opposition to Affirmative Action is a good place to start. It was Democratic president John F. Kennedy who, in 1961, first used the term “affirmative action.” But Affirmative Action in the way we think of it now wasn’t implemented until 1970, during the administration of a Republican president, Richard Nixon.
The theory was that, because of historical discrimination, blacks were at a competitive disadvantage to other races and ethnicities. To erase that disadvantage, standards that most blacks presumably couldn’t meet had to be lowered.
One could make the case that this policy had some utility when it was first put in place. But that was a long time ago. The conservative position is that blacks have repeatedly proven they can compete with anyone without the benefits of lower standards. There are countless examples of black success in every field, at every level. The policy is no longer necessary.
But the conservative argument goes further. Study after study shows that, in the case of college admissions, affirmative action hurts more blacks than it helps. By lowering admissions standards for blacks (and some other minority students), colleges set many of these students up for failure. They get placed in schools for which they are not prepared. And high black dropout rates confirm this view.

Jonathan Manning C’mon! You know the inference in the statement is that most minorities are “looking for handouts” as that’s what “the left” wants. People look at generalities to support their own biases on how minorities are treated in society. As one with 53 years of “work experience” in the field, I’m highly qualified to tell people how people like me have been treated. Everything I’ve gotten (or not gotten) are the results of decisions I’ve either made or not made. They’re just made in a racist society and I accept that. The statement that “I wish there were more of you” is a common inference from people who think that blacks and minorities (from Obama on down) got where they were solely because of handouts and whites got where they were solely on merit. I went to school with many “legacy” White people at the undergraduate school I went to. When I got accepted to Georgia Tech, people kept asking “did you get a football scholarship” even though I didn’t play my senior year. My reality is that, no matter what, in a racist society, there will be the assumption that anything I have that’s of value I was given and didn’t work for. I accept that and move on but call it what it is.

If it weren’t for the majority Republican vote, they would not have passed. 20 Democrats voted against it. How many of those switched parties afterward? One. No, Republicans have fought to end slavery, give women the vote, bring in anti-lynching laws (1920s), and promote equality hand in hand with MLK (a Republican). Democrats installed the KKK, suppressed the women’s vote for 40 years, blocked anti-lynching laws three times, and objected overwhelmingly to the Civil Rights Acts. Look up LBJ’s comments on signing that legislation. Democrats pander to the minority, treat blacks as intellectually inferior, and use buzz words to attack any opposition without debate. On Affirmative Action, there are still a few issues in minority communities, many of which are the persistent result of old racist policies. It take more then one surface reform to change that.
On voter ID, it’s not that minorities are handicapped, but that situations that lead people to not have photo ID are more common among minorities in the US, like living in a city and not having a car, and having to work so much you don’t have the time to get a photo ID. www.wired.com/story/voter-id-law-algorithm/amp
And it’s easier to get photo ID in Europe.
And school choice has issues with accountability, and taking resources away from schools. And some liberal are open to it, but there still problems.
And Nixon openly wanted to brand Democrats as pro-black to attract racist white southerns to his party.

    • @DoomsdayMachine_888
      @DoomsdayMachine_888 Před 5 lety

      @@willhiggins9563
This didn't refute a whole lot. Before I say what I'm about to say, I am attacking the ideas, not you, so don't take this the wrong way.
The point in the Affirmative Action debate is that we don't need it on a national level, and not even a state level. Let's say these communities still have these issues. Okay. Fine. Why should the nation have to conform to help those few communities instead of either repealing those policies or re-leveling Affirmative Action to only apply to those communities? It hurts the nation as a whole, so why should a few communities dictate whether or not it's still a *national* policy rather than a local one?
In the case of voter ID, the answer is simple: inspire minorities to be independent of government. It's no secret that the Democrats have convinced minorities to depend on their policies. LBJ (the worst POTUS ever in my opinion) introduced a bill that gave single mothers of color a couple thousand dollars, which caused the rate of fatherless families in the black community to skyrocket. The New Deal caused a number of black people to depend on the government for jobs, and this has caused a distaste for lower taxes because they believe it would come out of their paycheck. Finally, get out of the city and into the rural/suburban areas. It may start out hard, but it's better to live outside the city than inside due to the fact that most city policies hurt lower-income families, which do tend to be blacks. But many wouldn't be there if not for the KKK, a group described by Eric Foner (a democrat) as, "a political machine serving the interest of the Democratic Party," which chased them into the sanctuary of the cities. But the same policies that are disguised as government assistance to minorities have kept them down in the urban areas, but due to the name and the guise, they defend it to no end, even though it hurts them. If they become independent of those policies, most of which hurt them, and became an average American worker, they'll thrive, and wouldn't have a problem getting a voter ID. Also, if they don't have the time to get a voter ID, chances are they won't have the time to vote. But most, if not all jobs provide vacation time, so they can go get it done, and it's not like anyone is gonna stop them. The KKK is reduced to 3,000 people, meaning they don't pose a threat (especially since they are not at all popular), and their only limitation is their ethics and the law.
Last, but not least, is school choice. In my honest opinion, the government shouldn't have nearly as big of a role in education as it does. Also, would you please elaborate on the "issues with accountability" so we can better discuss this? And even if it took resources away from certain schools, school vouchers would apply to everyone, meaning that it would most definitely add resources because others would go to that school. It's not perfect, but it's a much better option.
So what does Nixon have to do with that? As far as I'm concerned, Nixon is an irrelevant piece of crap. He has not, does not, and never will represent the GOP. Though, LBJ is far worse to minorities than Nixon ever was because he basically forced minorities, particularly blacks, to vote the majority of the time for Dems.
Again, I mean no disrespect to you, but I do want to debate the ideas.

All that it does is it encourages businesses, when presented with minority job applicants of a equal skill level to white applicants, to choose the minorities applicants as recognition that the minority applicant probably had to overcome a lot more hurdles to get to this position as a result of systemic oppression. It is not lowering standards for minorities because we think minorities are inherently less capable than white people.
      2. Voter ID laws targeted minorities by closing down early polling stations and other voting methods used by minorities, specifically because minorities tend to vote democrat. It is targeted discrimination.
      3. School choice is a noble idea in concept. But in practice it fails because of, once again, systemic oppression. Most inner city schools are deprived of resources because most minorities live inner city, and decades of discriminatory policy that pulled resources away from the inner city. As a result, if school choice were passed, most richer white families would choose not to go to the poorer inner city schools. And most funding and resources go towards whiter schools. So as more white kids are pulled out of inner city schools, the less funding those schools get, and the more the kids stuck in that school suffer.
Prager U does not serve to educate you. They serve to indoctrinate you in this regressive right wing idealologie. If you want more thorough debunkings, watch you tubers like Vaush or Shaun.

      1. There is no systemic oppression preventing minorities from contacting a temp agency and landing a job. It is how I got my job after all. I may not be a minority, but a good 48% of my coworkers are of minority demographics. Affirmative action does impose a racial hire quota on businesses which does perpetuate the idea that they need lower standards to land the job.
      2. Voter ID laws are in place to prevent voter fraud, not to tilt elections in favor of one party. That's what voter intimidation is for. Everyone is required to obide by the same voter ID law to vote.
      3. You obviously don't know how school funding policy works. The better a school peforms, the more resources and money the government grants it. In my days of middle and high school, my school was 80% white and did not recieve sufficiency in goverment funding. That is due to the disobedience and belligerence of my clasmates resulting in lower GPA at my school; lower performance.
Can you even name any of these systemically oppressive policies that haven't been abolished yet? This is reality, not propaganda.

Not sure how they get to choose the hours to shut down votes. I know I'm gonna get beat up in the comments for this, but PragerU failed to make any convincing argument to me because it ignored the more key racially motivated policies and stuck to a few that they could easily make a point

@@thirdstrike4u It's funny, cause growing up in the 80's, I lived in the backwoods of northern Wisconsin. The school I use to go to was pretty much hands down ALL conservative. But, back then, no one held any allegiance to bands by political parties. The school was all for Reagan, but listened to bands like R.E.M., who were highly liberal. It just wasn't a thing back then, bands might have had a political swaying, but they did not align their music to solely speak to those people...and the people who listened did not care. It was simply "good music", regardless of ideologies. Not today. Today, you get maimed for listening to a group if your morality teeters from theirs. It's pretty sad. Both bands and actors are now on this soapbox kick, where if your thoughts do not meet theirs, then "how dare" you listen to or watch their careers, let alone enjoy it. Pretty sad.

California has way better weather / climate, and is one of the tops in natural beauty. However, CA has a horrible business climate, very high cost of living, high taxes, regulations, gas prices, car registration, insurance, housing, etc. There's a reason CA currently has a net outflow of citizens leaving the state. Texas has abominable summers, and not much in the way of public lands. However, the business environment is excellent, the job market is robust, there is no state income tax, reasonable housing costs, gas, car registration, etc., and is arguably a more family oriented state. The large cities are Democrat run - Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, El Paso, and the state will probably turn blue within a decade, but there are conservative suburbs in the large metro areas, and even after turning blue it will take a while to turn the big Texas ship around. One of the things that accelerated the demise of CA was the collapse of the aerospace industry in SoCal when the defense contracts suddenly dried up following Reagan's arms race with the former Soviet Union. Tens of thousands of high paying engineering and manufacturing jobs disappeared at the beginning of the 1990s, the real estate market crashed, and the first wave of the California exodus began.

domhnall777- Donald Trump walks to his own drummer. Some prominent Republicans walked away from the party because of him. Since the days of the "Reagan Democrats," more working class people than ever before, have defected to the Republican Party. They're the ones who embraced Donald Trump. NOT because they were thrilled with the eccentric billionaire per se, but because they were sick of the way the federal government operates. Trump has done nearly everything backwards as a politician. If he gets re-elected, and there's a fair chance that he will, he's going to accomplish more in his second term than his first, the exact opposite of most presidents! Instead of trolling sites like this, you should be out working hard for one of the twenty-two candidates trying to run for the Democratic nomination next year. Good luck to you, though. Trump has failed to bring about the end of the world, the economy is in fair shape, the Democrats, news media, and Washington elitists blindly hate anything Trump, and there's still a large number of people who hate the "swamp." You're going to have your work cut out for you!

@domhnall777 Actually no. There's either truth or a lie. Now there's subjective truth, such as; I have dark hair and someone else may not, But then there's absolute truth, we both breath and bleed the same. Now in the case of what Prager shared here, that's absolute truth. As far as Trump goes, he's human just like the rest of us. He will (as we all do) have moments that contradict others, he will say things that seem to contradict other things that he's said, that doesn't make what he says that's true and less true and it doesn't make anything false he's ever said any less false. But that's on a human level, not an events level. Either it happened the way it's been said or it didn't. In this latter case, there aren't different kinds of truth.

    • @DolkkarToyznstuff
      @DolkkarToyznstuff Před 5 lety

@domhnall777 But that's the thing, it is absolutely true because it supports events as they have taken place. Either the events transpired the way they said or they didn't, that is absolute truth. The fact that if you stop breathing you will die is an absolute truth. You can spin, twist it and deny it all you want to, but unless you can show where and how what Prager is saying here is false, you have no standing in the conversation.

I am a historian & there was none. Why don’t you try to defend your fairytale opinion that there was a southern strategy. Why don’t you start by researching when black Americans started voting more Democrat than Republican in presidential elections. Then double check the years Nixon was President. And also see how the Deep South voted when this supposed southern strategy worked. I can do this all day. You are in way over your head kid.
