A gentleman. A superb actor. A fascinating man. His private life belongs to him. He had talent and beauty. A bloody brilliant writer! ♥️

He was a great actor but also a brilliant writer. I’m re-reading his books now during COVID-19 lockdown
Sheridan Morley said, “ Bogarde remains unquestionably the best actor- biographer of the late twentieth century “. 🎭

This was an amazing four part piece.
I always loved the scenes in the Night Porter, in his character's flat, with Charlotte Rampling

Never heard him talk about Forwood like that before. Thank you so much for posting.

Yup, amazing how they did practically everything together...a symbiotic relationship, almost, yet without suffocating each other.

Wonderful to look at this again. Last week I released my 'Dirk Bogarde Suite'. Part poetry, music and song in four parts. Based on four specific life moments in Dirks personal lifetime. Still a great influence on many artists, actors, writers and musicians. Dirk FOREVER

Thank you Lara for such brilliant information RE D B ,I loved him as an actor but later on for his writing . It was his choice not to come out and I don't think anyone has the right to blame him .He seemed sad sometimes when interviewed so maybe he regretted his choice . I always enjoyed both his films and his books

I agree. Such a shame he didn't feel able to come out. If he had, his prickliness in interviews may have given way to a much more agreeable person.

Why should he have to come out, perhaps his private live was his private life and he did not want to let anyone know what his sexuality was. I hate this thing where Gay people think famous people have a duty to come out, it’s there business not ours. Personally his sexuality is of no interest to me, it is his skill as a actor that matters.

This is an excellent series of Bogarde interviews. But is the speed correct? He seems to be talking faster than normal and his face is speeded up.

Horrible that society made him feel he had to deny his relationship, and do it in such detail. I can only think that the bond with Forwood must have been strong enough to take it. To think that today most people would be happy for him...

This was filmed in 1991 so Bogarde was 70+ at the time.

Exactly how many people did Dirk kill in a car accident?? “ I killed some people in a accident “ Did the Rank Organisation pay off someone to keep it out of the press?? In 1948 Tony Forwood left his wife the beautiful and lovely actress Glynis Johns and his young son Gareth to move in with Dirk permanently. Yes he was Dirks Manager/ Agent/ Rep but he was obviously so much more to Dirk!! Even at age 71 Dirk felt he couldn’t talk about the full scope of his relationship with Tony Forwood. Which is very sad. I needed Forwood “ to do the mowing and heavy mowing,to work on the tractors and with the sheep. And with the publishers which were my new world”. And of course to drive Dirk here and there.
