What a fantastic tutorial. Great work. Looking forward to seeing more from you. Thank you!
Thank you!!
Amazing - thank you and well done. Happily subscribed and looking forward to more content. For all the channels out there - this video hit the sweet spot for me. The right tempo, easily understandable, digestible, applicable and as importantly for me - you actually give a damn about how it LOOKS on the page even down to bumping things around by a pixel or two and showing where and how that's done. So the end result looks as good as the dynamic content (love the dynamic headers - admittedly as excited about these new card visuals with reference labels as I am your videos :)). Keep 'em coming!
Thank you for the feedback! I’ll keep them coming and thanks for subscribing!
This is wonderful, I learned so much from you in this video and decided to remodel my dashboard using the new Card and reference labels using your techniques. thank you!
Excellent!! I’m so happy you shared!
Instantly became a "SUB"! Great content. I will watch all your videos. I'm learning so far. Thank you.
Excellent thank you!!
You were super. Thank you for teaching this.
Thank you!!
This is AMAZING!! Super awesome content!
Thanks so much!!
Great insight
Thank you
My pleasure!
Fantastic tutorial!!! I noted that I do not have the "fit" option for images on my formatting panel..am I doing something wrong?
Great question! There have been a few updates since this video was created. The fit selection is now a toggle found at the below location (using PBI version Feb 2024).
1. Select the card visual
2. Go to the images section of the pane
3. There is now a "fix size" toggle button.
4. Set this to off or on based on your preferences
Hope this helps!
Thanks for posting this. I gained a lot from it. I, however, observed that Units Returned, when positive, appeared in red instead of green at 2:18 and when negative, appeared in green instead of red at 5:53. I reckon there is an error in the IF construct handling the switch.
Thank you for sharing and I appreciate your feedback!
Is it possible to have 2 Details? I am tracking Sales variances to Budget and Last Year and want to show red / green formatting for each of the 2 variances.
Love the question! You can have multiple reference labels, but only one detail per reference label. You could solve the above by adding an additional reference label; creating a reference label for the budget and one for last year.
At 8:04 when you added reference labels, how did the background colour turn to cream automatically? Are there any settings?
Yep you can definitely control that. To get to the settings follow these steps.
1. Click the visual
2. Go to reference label section
3. Select "All" for the series
4. Go to background section and set background color desired
@@PowerBIBro thank you so much for detailed reply. Thanks
My pleasure!
Love this. Keep it up!
Thank you! Will do!
Thanks. Helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Super! Tks.
Love the content just subscribed I want to follow along what item do I download on Github to practice using the same data set?
Awesome & thank you! This one one of my first videos, this visual should be nested in the file 'PBI - 20231212 - Mastering the Scatterplot.pbix'. I plan on making a new version soon!
Great explanation. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing
Great work here 🎉
Thanks for your comment and glad the video was helpful!!!
Hi, its me again.. lolll!
May I know what version of PBI are you using cause my PBI does not have the accent bar (22:06) how do I enable it. I feel like my PBI features are very limited unlike yours.
Thanks for the question! In that video was using Dec 2023, however the accent bar is available in every version after that as well.
To ensure you're going to the right place, it's found here.
Click new card visual -> go to format section -> click the "Cards" section -> the very last item in the list is "Accent Bar"
HELP PLEASE - How come the "Spacing" Format under the Callout Value section is now missing in my view? I could no longer adjust the spacing between my Callout Value vs Label which I have done previously. Please advise.
Hi I can help! Let me know if this is what you are looking for :)
1. Click the reference card
2. Go to the Reference Labels Section
3. Under "apply settings to" - select the series to be "all"
4. Scroll down to the spacing section
4. Set the space between labels and outer padding
6. Select "customize outer padding" to further customize and change the spacing.
@@PowerBIBro I am experiencing the same issue. We are not able to see the spacing in the call out value and not reference label section even after selecting "All". Could you please help.
Can anyone here confirm if they can still see the "Spacing" Format in the Callout Value section of the new card? :( I don't know what happen, but I could no longer see it from my end.

Thank you so much!!
Great content. Question from here though - i have been using this with the unicode arrows as indication in my measures. But it seems like from one day to the other that now my unicode symbols arent showing up when i publish my reports .. they are replaced by "--" instead. Any ideas? Thanks!
Interesting, when naming the measure, as an experiment try holding ‘windows’ and ‘period’ at the same time on your keyboard. It should pop open a unichar menu. Maybe try selecting an item from that menu.
@@PowerBIBro doesn't work, even tried changing it to another symbol from the menu you suggested. Still the same.
@@PowerBIBro the measure works in a normal card, it displays correctly when published. I'm starting to wonder could it be the new cards and integration with my measure thats causing it, just a bit weird how it worked some weeks ago. I just need the new cards, so i really need to solve it😅
What version of PBI desktop are you using? If it’s the newer Dec update, it may have a bug. If on Dec, as an experiment try installing the Nov 2023 update and open you solution in that. I’ve had another weird bug which this process resolved.
Hi. I also have the same issue after publishing my report 😔
My PBI desktop Version: 2.124.1052.0 64-bit (December 2023) But thank you for this tutorial 🥰
I cant see this visual pbix sample in the Github.😥
This one one of my first videos, this visual should be nested in the file 'PBI - 20231212 - Mastering the Scatterplot.pbix'. I plan on making a new version soon!
Thank you sir! +1 subs
Excellent thank you!!
good topic and presentation, please continue! you need to fix the sound of your mic.
Thank you for the feedback, mic is now fixed for future videos!
Sir, please help how to create Month Name. Thanks
Sure thing, check out this DAX below. It generates a calendar table, you can see how to manipulate the date in many different ways.
Date = ADDCOLUMNS(
CALENDARAUTO(),
"Year",YEAR([Date]),
"Quarter", "Q"& QUARTER([Date]),
"Year Quarter", YEAR([Date])&"-"&"Q"& QUARTER([Date]),
"Year Month Number", YEAR([Date])&"-"&FORMAT([Date],"mm"),
"Month Year", FORMAT([Date],"mmmm")&" "&YEAR([Date]),
"Quarter Year", "Q"& QUARTER([Date])&"-"&YEAR([Date]),
"Month", FORMAT([Date],"mm"),
"Month Abrev", FORMAT([Date],"mmm"),
"Month Name", FORMAT([Date],"mmmm"),
"Month Sort", FORMAT([Date],"m"),
"Day", FORMAT([Date],"dd"),
"Day Abrev", FORMAT([Date],"ddd"),
"Day Name", FORMAT([Date],"dddd"),
"Day Sort", FORMAT([Date],"w")
)
I'm sorry if didn't follow the logiс of your particular task, but I suppose you calucated Variance % not quite correct. If I may, I think you wanted to show the difference in percentage between current and previous months. If so, you needed to take different numerator rather than just variance.
Other than that it's a great video. I'm trying to utilize new cards according to it and so far I've managed to succceed in everything thanks to you! Well except arrows up and down indicators. I have Win10 and PBI Desk is a bit different, I think it might be somehow realted.
thanks again very much for your work!
I stand corrected - there is no reason behind version of PBI Desk, I managed to do everything according to the video!😄 And I'm so happy! thanks again, Power BI Bro!❣
I love the feedback and the comments, thank you!
I also love how you're diving into the details of the variance, that's great! My intent of the Var % is a bit different and not the percentage of MoM change. In this example Var % is intended to depict what percentage the MoM variance is relative to the previous month, so the percentage of variational change vs MoM change. You are totally correct if going for MoM. Thanks for these notes!!
How to use it while using field parameters
Great idea, I’ll make an additional video leveraging field parameters!
I can't find the reference lable in my sitting how can i do to disply it ?
Follow these steps.
1. Make sure you've selected the visual 'Card (New)'
2. View the formatting pane
3. The 5th option down is Reference Labels.
... if you pick just the Card visual it will not have these features, so make sure to use the Card (New)
@@PowerBIBro I'm sure that i picked the new card
@@hamzamottali3567I had same experience as you until I updated my version. Please update your Power BI.
Where is the file to follow along?
I have downloaded every file and this one is no where?
Thanks for the question! This video was my first one and it was recorded prior to when I began publishing files... however it is available.
For this one, you'll need to down the 'Master the Scatterplot' file, then go to the tab 'Power BI Bro'
Here's the link!

Good tutorial but man... Work on your audio....😊
Thanks for the feedback man! I’m going to get the audio in better shape
Agree. I didnt follow through because of the audio - but the content actually drew me in
the formatting value of the label dont work for me, any idea ?
Hey! Check out the GitHub link and download the file I used in the example. See if that helps potentially show what may be going on.
What's the name of that file? When I downloaded what you have on this page I didn't find a report that had all the measures that you're showing in the video@@PowerBIBro
Great question, it's a little confusing. Check out the template 'PBI - 20231212 - Mastering the Scatterplot'. All of my first videos should be within that report file. Let me know if something is missing!@@heeby89
This is Amazing , could you please provide datasets or Pbix File?
I’m glad you think it’s amazing! Yes, if you go to the GitHub URL used in my other videos, there is a file “Mastering the scatterplot”. That file should contain what you’re looking for.
@@PowerBIBro Okay Sir Thank You 🙏 so much
