- The RNLI Bronze Medal for Gallantry was presented to Exmouth crew volunteer Roger Jackson at the RNLI's Annual Presentation of Awards 2012 following the rescue of four people from a capsized powerboat in October 2011. The award was given in acknowledgement of Roger's exemplary leadership, boat-handling skill and tenacity in exceptional conditions. This video is a reconstruction of the rescue that took place.
There are heroes in every walk of life, but the men and women of the RNLI stand proudest.
What is even more remarkable is that Roger was severely injured whilst paragliding a few years before. He almost didn't walk again. He went through intensive rehab in order to re-join the crew.
Incredible dedication and determination to continue to save others 💙
@@rnli Absolutely! If I still lived near the coast I’d join a crew again in an instant. Miss going to sea at a moments notice.
Another outstanding example of dedication and courage 😃👌👏👏👏❤️
Well done guys!, Really Twists my melons to see some wimp put a thumbs down on such courageous men and women!.👍
Thank you, Kevin 💙
THKS FOR YOUR SERVICE
True Heroes !
Great job lads. Well done. That people will down thumb this really grinds my gears. FFS not your thing, fine go and find some more LOL cats or whatever.
Well done guys!
Great job and extremely difficult to be done in a small rescue rib just with one engine and non self righting capability.
For conditions like that, I would have thought that the Mersey class lifeboat would have been used!
@@joelharris1335 The Mersey was launched to provide additional safety cover for the ILB crew.
well done fellas
yeah if but then a beer. it makes you think... how many of them would jump into a boat at 3 in the morning to go 25 miles out in the north sea in a hurricane? the RNLI guys are trained for fires, medical care... but they're also primary school teachers, architects, accountants etc..
+Gregor Carswell I'd buy them** autocorrect fail
Why not use the bigger lifeboat?
The incident was too close to the coast for a large all weather lifeboat I'd guess . It could run aground too easily or would be too big a boat to get get close enough to the casualties to rescue them .
To see what the RNLI are trying to avoid google the name of the Portrush lifeboat in Northern Ireland , Katie Hannan . In 2008 It was destroyed in the pursuit of its duty when it was trying to rescue a fishing boat that had gone onto the rocks surrounding Rathlin island . Bad weather pushed it into the rocks to . It also meant that attempts to rescue the lifeboat failed and it was pushed further onto the rocks damaging beyond economic repair
