I have seen a handful of people wait on the backsplash bc of similar reasons. In the finish carpentry world you can see the affects of the house settling etc. down the road. As a man who installed cabinets, templated, fabricated, installed and repaired natural stone and some other types of countertops(like Silestone, Viaterra, and Vitrazzo to name a few) for 15 years, I PARTLY agree. 3cm granite can weigh as much as 30 lbs per square foot(for something like iron red/Vulcan techanite or a Galaxy Black/Absolute black). Also, some stone soaks up water(which SHOULD be used during fabrication/polish/buff) far more than what one would think a stone could, both making the physical act of installation more difficult and sealing impossible. If stone is installed before dry (a BAD idea) that weight is even higher. I said PARTLY agree, because it's YOUR job to tell the customer they will void any guarantee or warranty offered by your company(which EVERY company SHOULD, SPECIFICALLY for installation) by not waiting for backslash install. Yes, installation later is an inconvenience, but it's YOUR job to tell them you will not guarantee any work done if they do not do as you say. That's customer relations 101, come on man. Be a man and tell them what to do, don't recommend. If they won't listen to you, walk away. It will cause more issues that make dealing with it on the back end NOT worth it.

    People seem to not understand these days that houses actually do MOVE. Your entire house can be off. Build the house to code in a high humidity climate. Go back 6 months later and I can almost guarantee every single wall would be off by atleast 1-2 degrees. Than go back 20 years later and see what's changed lmfao

    NEVER Publicly say something was “all your customers fault”! The customer is always right can be taken literally or as a concept acknowledging that a service provider must adhere to decency, REGARDLESS of blame of a customer. I certainly would never have you install anything in my house.

    Yeah, that makes sense. Everyone i know leaves there kitchen alone for 6 to 8 months before installing a back splash. We do the same thing afyer framing too, just leave the house alone for a half a year to adjust to settling.

    6-8 months is not practical for most people. If you make the seam with the correct compound that has flexibility there’s no need to wait that long. Doing nothing for that long would also cause other issues.

    A good caulk would not "separate" as you put it. Good caulk is malleable. You can squish it, squash it, stretch it.

  • @travisklein6831
    @travisklein6831 Před 2 lety

    “Wait 6-8 months for the kitchen cabinets to settle in” On what planet will they do that??
    What you really need to do is call the cabinet installer and tell him to stop using soft cedar shims under the base cabinets. He can make fir shims from scrap 2X lumber and probably fix this problem on future builds.
    Also it looks like you failed to completely fill the gap with caulking. You need to use a trowel to press the bead all the way into the joint. Probably need twice as much caulk as you applied.
