- Did you know there is a simple trick to declick the aperture on Canon FD lenses without any modification? Sort of ;) Let me show you how to do it!
Canon FD lenses are tricky to adapt to modern Canon EF mount cameras and I don't advice doing so, but they have no problems on mirroless like Sony, Fuji or Canon RF

No way. I literally just got a K&F for my 3 fd lenses and couldn't figure out ghe apature issue. Read so many complicated descriptions online. Thank you for showing this simply
Glad it was of help!
Wow this is good can't beat a bit of lateral thinking.
Love it.
Thanks! 😁
I just tried it with a fotodiox adapter and a pixco speed buster, both for m43. Both work, but the pixco is a bit smoother. Excellent trick, thank you again!
Such an obvious hack, thanks for pointing that out!
I was kinda surprised when I realized no one mentions it 😅
One of the best hacks that I now know. Thank you very much for the video!
Glad it was useful!
Hey Marco's, thanks bro, that's such a great trick and so simple .I never realized it could be done.
Glad it was useful!
Thanks for the tip! I didn't realize that I put it on the wrong way all the time, but at the same time was wondering why the aperture settings couldn't be changed :)
Glad it was helpful!
this is GREAT! THANK YOU!!! Got here via google, more people should know this!
Glad it was helpful!
Out standing!
Great! I tried it on a Fotodiox adapter and it works too (harder to control precisely though). Thanks for sharing!!!
Glad it was useful!
Very informative video :) Thanks alot
Glad it was useful, thank you for watching!
Saaaaved me 🥲
Glad it was of help!
nice, thanks for sharing!
Glad it was appreciated!
You saved me, thank you so much!!!
Glad I could help!
Wow I owned this adapter for 7 years and didn’t realize what it could do))
Eh, I know the feeling 😅
Briliant, my adapter arrived today, will be doing this.
Good, have fun!
@@MarcoAries I will, thanks so much!
Cool, great hack
Glad it was helpful 😉
Only problem is you have a very short through. But if you add a large follow focus gear not on the lens but to the adapter ring you get much finer control.
I measured the diameter and sent that to a eBay seller to print a 3d gear ring, works a treat.
That's a clever trick! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Marco,
Thanks for the video ! Very helpful in case I want to use my FD Lens on my A7S3.
But do you have any idea on how to get the blades unlocked in the case I use my FD Lens on my Canon AE-1 ?
I'd love to be able to change aperture directly when I shoot with it. Thank you so much
I haven't handled a Canon film camera in years and I'm not super familiar with the AE-1, but it should have an aperture preview button somewhere, the iris closes when pressing that or when taking a picture.
@@MarcoAries I will look into it, thank you for your time :)
Hello, i wanted to ask something regarding "Schneider Kreuznach Kodak Retina Curtagon f:2,8/35mm" lens. It says it only has a mechanically moving depth of field scale and needs an adapter with aperture. What exactly does that mechanic part look like, if you have done a video on it or would like to?
I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with that lens so I can't help you.
There are many communities on Facebook and reddit, surely someone will have an answer for you there!
@@MarcoAries ok thanks. I basically wanted to ask about any lens without aperture and having that moveable knob for it and if you ever had to add an adapter with aperture but I think i know what to do so thanks for the response
Yeah, the only lens without aperture I've used is the MTO 500mm catadioptric, but those are meant to be used that way.
@@MarcoAries Alright, thanks for the replies
I followed your instructions accuratly and put on the adapter correctly. but no matter what I do, i can't change the aperture. The blades wont move, not even when I put it on my Canon Ae1 and press the shutter. But the blades arent stuck - when i mount the lens on the camera body the blades move. (At least sometime) But there is no way to control the aperture- not with the adapter, when pressing the shutter or using the stop down function. The aperture just wont change, the lens is constantlys open at 1.8... Can somebody help? i have no idea whats wrong with my lens( I am using a canon 50mm fd of the 3rd Generation (FDn))
It does sound like there's something wrong with the aperture. If you can, you might want to have a professional take a look at it, but if don't have access to one hopefully someone here in the comments will be able to help you.
I tried it on a Vivitar with an fd mount but it didn't work
It might be that the Vivitar has a slightly different aperture system, good to know, thanks for sharing 👍🏻
