Froggy can eat me! I write the lyrics and riffs to a song, and arrange and produce them. However, the guitarist and drummer bring their talents to the song and bring it to a final spot. I, the songwriter, want to give them a piece of the publishing, but not an equal share. I want them to get some piece of the royalties. However, I don't want to imply they helped 'write' the song, which they didn't formally. THIS is where it gets tricky writing people in for unequal shares.

Also consider that a ghost producer made the beat, and John had to go to Henry to get track recorded. In addition John wrote the hook and one of the verses.

What happens if you lease the beat to 100 tadpoles then Teddy comes along and wants to get an exclusive to that beat?😳 sure puts a lot of baby frogs tracks out there with the same beat some guy just paid top $$ to make sure no one else gets it AFTER him
I have watched so many videos on this each time leave scratching my head but this has made thing much more clear. One question : I believe I a currently in Scenario # 2, I produced a beat and paid a singer songwriter to write and record a song on my beat, I then paid for the song to be mixed and mastered and will pay to have the song released, marketed, etc... I will split everything 50/50 with the Singer but who owns the master and have full rights to the song regarding placements and syncs? Can I use a simple split sheet in this arrangement or need some sort of Producer agreement? Thanks
A general rule of thumb is that whoever Executive Produces the song owns the Master. The Split Sheet is basically royalties. Usually in your setting one of 2 things can be in place, a work for hire with no royalty share (if that is stipulated in the contract) or you can share the royalty, completely up to you and best if it is settled prior to release. Hope that helps.
If a songwriter writes a lyric and melody and creates some basic chords then goes to a producer to create the actual production w those chords but producer then adds instruments and beats and arranges does the producer then get any songwriting or publishing when registering w BMI. How does the producer get paid if no front end compensation but agrees to a royalty where does that compensation come from and what is the actual ownership component for eg what is needed for artist to give sync placement rights if producer has a royalty. Does producer have to sign off each time or can you get them to sign off all approval on front end and if so where does producer get their money from? BMI , publishing , sounds change sync placements?
SERNARIO 2: IF TEDDY does the music and FROGGY writes all the songs.... they agree to a 50/ 50 split. does that include the "writer's " section of the split sheet also ? so tho Teddy didn't write any lyrics, on the split sheet he still gets 50% of the "writer's split" ?
in the scenario where you lease a beat from an online producer. Is it common that the person who leases can negotiate to keep 100% of the writer's /Composition share while giving the producer 100% of the publisher's share?
