In remembrance of Jody Tompkins, father, husband, and best friend

- I lost one of my best friends during the night, Jody Tompkins. For those who did not know, he battled colon cancer for nearly 7 years, and had been in hospice for 54 days. He was 49 years old. One of the finest men I have ever met. A man who loved God, family, and his country. We shared so much time together in the mountains riding and exploring, multiple cross country trips west. He taught me so much about being a man as well and I will forever be grateful. We first met back in 2008 at Pickett in the snow, I feel privileged to have gotten to ride with him on his last time in the woods with just Jody, his son Austin and myself, back at Pickett. My best guess is we have rode about 19,000 miles together, to say the least. He loved his wife Sarah and his kids Austin, Emma, and Elizabeth so much and was so proud of his kids. We talked about his family nearly the entire way to Utah this past year. I am very emotional he is no longer with us, but I am happy he has won the battle with cancer and is no longer fighting and in pain as he has done the last 7 years. I love you brother, I will see you again.
For the future of this channel: Jody asked me some time ago to continue this channel and I will be doing so in dedication of him and our many adventures together. He gave me all of his camera equipment, editing software, and his tablet. I hope to make him proud and everyone that has followed along these videos of our rides will continue doing so. I will keep the content the same as it has been for the last 10 years. Thanks to all of the longtime followers.

I never met Jody personally but I did speak with him on several occasions over the years through Messenger. I asked him for advice on machines, tires, trails, and so forth. He was always so gracious and readily responsive to my inquiries. He always took the time to talk to me about riding. It was easy to see that he loved it and was always very helpful. He will be sorely missed by me and everyone that he touched with his awesome videos and personal contacts. RIP Jody T , you were one of the great ones.
Very good video. It was good to hear Buck coaching in the video. These videos mean so much more now that they are gone to see them riding and hearing their voices. We all need to live life how they rode the trails, technical trails with fearlessness.
Jody was my Neighbor even though him and I didn't see eye to eye that much I had a great deal of respect for him. Sending my condolences to Sarah and his kids. Rest in Peace Jody
I never had the pleasure of meeting Jody but have watched him for any years. My heart goes out to the family and friends. He will live on in video.

Gonna miss his videos, he made it look so easy. Met him one night at windrock by accident and let him borrow my spare to get back to camp. "Give err a gallon" buddy
I don’t know Jody personal, but I know the heartache of loosening a good riding buddy. I wish his family peace and Love.

Wow, so sorry for your loss. I am glad to hear he was right with God, I know that gives family so much peace during times like this. I know riding in the woods I often find myself talking to God and it is one of the places I feel closest to him. I am praying for your family during this time.
I didn't know him. I just remember watching his Tackett Creek videos when I first got my Pioneer. I used his videos to gauge what trails I thought I could actually make in the Pioneer.
