    A good paint job. When you do things yourself you know every little mistake/blemish you make but everyone else just sees the final result. Try not to point out your little mistakes to everyone and enjoy the perfect bits. You both made the job look easy. Looking forward to see how you adorn the the boat with striping etc. Well done.

      I wanted to show you guys the imperfections because it’s helpful if painting your own boat. But I won’t show them to every passerby. Lol.

    Once you do the top coat, you can also sand it with a 3200 grit sand paper followed by buffing it out for a mirror finish to blind your foes... I mean, fellow boaters with.
    The sagging is because of putting it on too thick. If you thin the paint, you can put on more, thinner coats that dry faster. A little more effort but you get a much better finish. With the right prep work, the right techniques and enough patience, you can get airbrush level results with a roller or a sponge.

    Your doing a great job. I've never repainted a boat, but I have restored several antique cars. Your never gonna get a super smooth finish unless you spray it. But in your case. You'll get a much thinker coat by rolling it. It looks great.
    I live in the states and I fascinated by your canals. So by watching all kinds of videos somewhere I remember that if you change a boats name, you need to take it out of the water or it's bad luck.

    Brilliant job, I have to say it's not as easy as it looks to get a good finish, there will always be a few spots that you notice but no one else will even spot them. I have just completed painting a stripe on my boat that the previous owner had done himself and left most the brush in it, it took days of hard work to sand, undercoat and top coat but we'll worth it, so hats off to you both for tackling a boat that size x

    * Hello Ladies, fine job you're doing. Tip for windows, use Poly Butyl Tape ( it's like old fashioned window glazing, but flexible, used on vintage caravans for their windows and doors as well as on exterior corners. Super nice product, you won't be disappointed ! PS. all the pros do the 'sanding dance' it's a must ;)

    HI Girls , I once hand painted a car .On advice from and old mechanic was to put the tin of paint into a pan of hot water. The paint flows a lot better. I did this and was really pleased with the result. BOat looks great by the way , alot of work already put in, more than most .

    I like to think I am a practical type of guy and can turn my hand to most things. You ladies are just brilliant in your ability to apply your talents in such a positive way it would put most DIY'ers to shame. Sadly, the one thing that gives me a great deal of satisfaction is glossing doors and the finish must be perfect as I am my own worst critic, it would seem that you ladies are very much the same. Thinning paint will dull the high gloss, but the finish will be much kinder on the eyes with less shine. The boat is looking really good and take pride in what you have achieved. Well done to you both and keep up the good work.

    We've painted our own boat and its wearing well so far. Worst moment? We were moored up for the afternoon and decided to make the most of the warmth and undercoat the roof. It was all going so well when, suddenly, we were hit by a swarm of flying ants who proceeded to embed themselves in the fresh paint! Horrors! The beasties dried into the paint! More ants kept arriving so we disappeared inside to sob into a beer. Next morning we found that the second lot of ants had cannibalised the first lot so all we had left was a roof covered in ant legs like a hairy carpet! Did that take some sanding lol.

    "I am not a professional painter." said Anna, the talented water colorist. I am fortunate to have commissioned a portrait of my pooch, Evie. Brilliant. Posted by Kath, it arrived in Alaska as promised and in perfect condition. I recommend anyone with a dog or cat get in touch and do yourself a favor . . . perfect for Christmas! Just sayin . . . Considering you did not have a shed to do this in, you did good. Even experienced painters can get a sag now and then. without using caustic strippers or sandblasting back to bare metal, no one could get a perfect finish over someone else's work.
    Use masking tape to frame your coachlines and peal it off while the line is slightly tacky, by pulling at a 45 degree angle away from the line.

      What does a feathered edge mean?

    • @thattrainguy
      @thattrainguy Před 5 lety

      It just means that you use the last bit of paint to fade out the paint (just keep going until your brush is empty). Then go back over this area when you come back with fresh paint so that join is not visible. It's best to do another feathered edge going back over the last bit of paint to ensure that any slight difference is not noticeable. Good luck

    That looks really good ladies. Going to be hard waiting for part 2 and see what the finished boat looks like. Did I miss what you are going to rename her? Name it after the cats "The Alice and Munchy." =) You ladies are so multi-talented it is amazing to watch your videos. I wish I could do some of the things you two do. Good luck to you both with the painting and everything else you do. Definitely deserves and gets a thumbs up. 👍🏻

      Thank you for your kind comment. We do like to give things a go and would have liked a sleeker finish but are really happy to have protected her for many many years to come.

    That should work fine most of the boat builders use it for line when painting the water line on their crafts you might have to use a string line too as a guide helps you keep to the line. 😀
