    I currently drive a full EV, on lease for another 2 years but I'm actually one of the rare breeds considering going "back" to a PHEV (although I've never had one yet). I can live fine with a full BEV, and have never had any issues with running out of battery or problems charging it etc. I just like the idea of a PHEV, running it in EV when you want to - taking it on that longer journey without too much extra thought to having to charge when there etc. Also never had a Golf and you can lease one of these for half of it's list price...
    Great review, as always.

    Excellent review on the Golf e Hybrid. You must have been the first english version in Europe. Had a drive in one this week....liked it a lot . Love to know what you think of the new G T E.

    Great review Nobby. I have a ehybrid but find the engine horribly drony (hybrid mode) on the motorway at 70mph in 6th. So much so I have to change down to 5th in manual Sport mode (so it stays in 5th) and run it at higher revs as it’s quieter…. Im disappointed with mine for this reason… long distance cruising refinement isn’t good at all. Cheers.

    Review I was waiting for and the car looks fantastic. Yes its dearer than a 110bhp 1.0 or a base ID3 but if you compare against a similarly spec'd ID3 Max its 7k cheaper and that's before you take account of the 0% PCP on offer for the Golf. My money would go on one of these

    I've had a GTE (combined 242bhp) for just over a month now as a Company car. I used to drive a Skoda 1.5TSi (150bhp). The Golf is a nicer car to drive imo and the performance difference is huge, even though the Skoda was no slouch. Now I've got used to the in car controls I don't have any issues with these. The 2 big negatives for me are how long the car takes to charge when plugged in (4 hours or more), considering you only get 30 miles or so fully charged. And the boot is tiny due to the battery situated beneath it.

    Great review. Never really got the Golf thing until I drove one recently - a small one litre. With that hybrid fuel economy it nearly makes the full EV redundant ( apart from price difference) whilst keeping the emissions low at same time. Huge money though for what is basically a family hatch.

      Another 5k would have you in an Octavia RS! But they'll sell a good few of them I imagine to those who remain unconvinced about EVs.

    Hi, Best review, just what I've been looking for.
    I have a Question regarding charge level setting as seen on 5:30.
    What setting to choose to get the lowest economy. If you increase charge level - Does that mean that the Petrol engine will try to charge the battery and the Petrol conaumption would be higher. Does the Battery on the screen show how charged do you want your battery to stay? If you set to low as it is at 5:30 mark - does that mean that it would try to run on electricity for as much as possible and that this mode is the best to achieve lowest economy in hybrid mode?

    • @NobbyOnCars
      @NobbyOnCars  Před rokem

      Yes you can set it to charge using the petrol engine and can preserve a set amount. I think that’s what you mean anyway?

    • @jangregorec6710
      @jangregorec6710 Před rokem

      Yes. If I want to charge it evey day at home and use it in hybrid mode during the day it is to chose that the Petrol engine wont charge the battery and conaumption would be as small as possible since it would try to go as much on the battery. Is this right? I would have to chose the miminum charge level as seen on 5:30

    For me its a FWD/RWD-deal. Also, the PHEV is also available in the estate, right? Not that I’m in the market, holding on for the 2022-2023 full EVs. I see this doing great with my parents generation who don’t mind charging but have a hard time grasping the need to plan their long distance trips.

    I look at this car and feel just how wrong vw have got the Id range , the golf 8 isn’t anywhere as good interior as the mk 7.5 but the Id is a huge step back both in style and quality, the infotainment on both the mk8 and Id is horrible, buggy and still not fixed even with v3 software, vw please change this unit the boss has gone now start getting back to your roots and why golf 6/7 was such a big hit for the brand the golf 8 is none of these if anything the polo has a better interior pre facelift, vw need to learn from others and up there game even Nissans new model has a more powerful motor, both asia and the big t beat it on quality and range . Vw need to do more or they will loose a lot of custom to other brands as we slowly move begrudgingly to electric
