I take it the vanilla bean or extract is only flavoring, and if I wanted “flavorless” marshmallows like those in the store I would just leave this out, correct? Or is this a requirement of sorts?
I’m really getting into my freeze dryer and have heard of people freeze drying marshmallows in “candy mode.” Using homemade marshmallows sounds like a better idea, especially because then I could cut them even smaller than mini-marshmallows. I haven’t watched any of those videos yet, but candy mode on the freeze dryer seems to always “puff up” the product. With the lower tray height in the Pro series of the Harvest Right I worry about making a mess. I haven’t actually done any candy yet, I don’t want to ruin my freeze dryer before using it for the reason I bought it in the first place: freeze drying my favorite tasting plums (black-4040) for year-round enjoyment.

You're definitely welcome to leave the vanilla extract out (or sub another extract you would prefer) but I think you'll get a closer flavor to store-bought with it. Most store-bought marshmallows contain natural and artificial flavors, and while they don't specify if it's vanilla or not, I'd imagine that's one of them.
I hope they freeze dry well! Let me know how it goes if you try :)

Found your channel and I just wanted to say that your content is great but thumbnails need some work. I would suggest to make fonts bigger and contrasty (not white on white with black border) and put more focus on food you're making rather then yourself (or 50/50 it). Also you have a little too much text in your thumbnails for example "The Best Cranberry Sauce" I can see that you highlighted Cranberry Sauce because it's the main focus but I would say don't highlight it, just get rid of "The Best" make it just "Cranberry Sauce" and put a "The Best Cranberry Sauce" in the video title. And just put a close-up shot of you sauce in the thumbnail. People don't like to waste time they want to see "Cranberry Sauce" and a big yammy picture of it, then they'll click. Instead they have to squint to see it in your hands, read a long title with nuances (like make-ahead part) see your logo and think about what that is because it's also small and hard to read. All I'm saying is just me wanting to help (even tho no one asked) becase I see a good video with only 500 views that should get x10-100 that, good luck!

I appreciate your feedback! I've been wanting to revamp my earlier thumbnails but haven't really known where to start while trying to stay within my branding guidelines (or if it would pay off), so this was helpful.
I just re-did my cranberry sauce thumbnail as a test since you used that one as an example. We'll see how it does with the holidays coming up :)

@FloralApronBlog Personally I was taken aback by the comment. You do you! I clicked because I saw you, and the words Homemade Marshmallows. I had to look a few times before realizing those weren’t towels or pillows behind/next to you.
Regarding changing the text of the video, another channel I subscribe to does this A LOT, confusing the heck out of me, making me watch them again sometimes because I don’t remember seeing them the first, second or last time LOL. I’ve gotten into the habit of “liking” every video on the channel I watch, so if I click on a video and see that 👍, I know I’ve already watched it and click away. It does work to get more views, just be aware it could peeve off your current subscribers and you could lose some.

@MisterEMystery The person's comment was referring to the original thumbnail design of this video; the thumbnail you see is an updated version. I may update the older thumbnails across my channel with the new design at some point, but it's not a high priority for me right now :)
