Thanks for the guidance of this ever-changing and complex route. I like the sound effects for your car when you speed up the video!
Thanks Tom, it was a great open day too. Regards, Charlie.
Hi Charlie
My Wife and I have just got back to Brighton and once again we would like to extend our Deepest Thanks and Gratitude to yourself and the rest of the West Camel Club for putting on yet another Brilliant Open Day it was well worth the trip just to chat to the guys the layout’s were an added bonus.
We cannot thank the Team enough for taking time out to chat to me and swimbo and making us feel so welcome.
I even managed to pick up a Beautiful Class 416 with my pocket money and get some very interesting freebie books
Keep up the good the Great work we would love to join your Club but I feel the trip from Sussex every Weekend would be a bit too much
Thanks Chris, we are so pleased that you both enjoyed a day with us. It was great to hear of your marriage, congratulations. Regards Charlie
Really enjoyed my 'flying visit' on the day - Mid-Wales to West Camel, then to Poole (where I retired from in 2019), then back to Mid-Wales, all in one day (365 miles)! Although Wales can be stunning and spectacular, I realise I still miss the vistas of the Dorset and Somerset countryside. Very friendly bunch and a club I think I would gladly join if I was living in the area. Great pleasure to meet you in person Charlie, although you seemed to be in such great demand, I began to wonder if it would be possible to speak to you before I had to move on. Best wishes for the club and future recruitment.
Many thanks, Steve, so pleased that you enjoyed your visit. Regards, Charlie.
This is what I love about the channel Charlie. You look after everyone. Roads closed? No problem as you kindly provide a solution for us model railway enthusiasts to get to the destination safely. I'm not sure that I will be able to get to this one but if I do I will say hello. Great work Charli.
ThanksAnthony, I’m so pleased that you enjoy the channel. Regards, Charlie.
This drive would me nerve - wracking for a Yank like me. Driving on the left, the narrow village lanes, all the road work... Fun to watch though. Thanks Charlie
I’m glad you found it entertaining Sam. Regards, Charlie.
Brilliant video Charlie
I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards, Charlie.
Hi Charlie, I am in Great Britain on the 27th in Yorkshire but when you said Somerset I suddenly realized that's a bit away from Skipton where I will be based for the 2 and a half weeks that I will be there, if I can get there I will, great videos as usual, cheers from down under in Wairoa New Zealand
No Jed, that’s a huge distance to travel for just a small open day. Have a great holiday, regards Charlie
@ChadwickModelRailway Thanks for that,I will do, as I don't really know where you are but having traveled from down from my end of the world, I think the distance is not important, Wairoa is on the East Coast of NZ and nobody seems to know where we are, I do know that Somerset is in the South and I appreciate your comment, have a great show, cheers, Jed
I Charlie, Hope I can get to the exhibition as in the morning going on the East Sussex Railway in the morning. For a round trip as part of my birthday present. 😀
I would advise against it. That’s such a long way to go for just an ordinary open day.
Regards, Charlie.
Charlie after watching your latest video mate all I can say is don't have nightmares.
I think in my case, Ronald, it comes with the territory! Regards Charlie
That's a great little village there. About 3 hours from here though.
Yes it’s lovely except for the flood risk!
Regards Charlie
Many thanks for the drive. Hopefully, it will be a good day for the weather on the day for everyone.
Thanks, librarian, my fingers are crossed for the weather too. Regards, Charlie.
Even though I have never been there, I feel as if I have thanks to your excellent video journey. The village is very sweet. 😊 Hope it is a success.
Thanks Pauline, regards Charlie
Being from the States, and having always owned full sized trucks, watching you drive those TINY roads just makes me twitch...
I know what you mean, Scott, and delivery lorries still have to go down those tiny lanes. Regards, Charlie.
Hope all goes well Charlie I’ll be elsewhere celebrating our 50th anniversary 😮😅
Have a great celebration Fred.
Regards Charlie
Charlie, you need to organize your exhibition in a spot where they don't do road works as much. Lol.
That will be next summer then!
Regards Charlie
Charlie, good luck with the open day. I hope that everyone has a great time, and you get lots of new members.
Bit far to travel from Australia for the week-end.
Cheers, and stay safe, Michael
I was thinking along similar lines, living in Canada. Mind you, I am on holiday at that time...
Thanks Gentlemen, your support is much appreciated. Regards Charlie
Not the slightest chance I'm going to be there but I really enjoyed the trip round your part of Somersetshire. I hope you have a great day.
ThanksJohn, we just need to keep our fingers crossed for the weather. Regards, Charlie.
Thanks for the drive, it's been 25 years since we attended a swapmeet there.
I’m sure that it will be a great little show. Regards, Charlie.
We are just sorry that it is a bit too far from Brisbane to make it this year 😢
Would love to come, but living in central California makes it a bit tough to get to Somerset. Plus I drive on the wrong side of the road. Bill and Janet from California
Thank B&J that’s most kind.
Regards Charlie
Good luck to you and the club. It's a little far away for me to visit (from the Waveney Valley, East Anglia), but I'm sure it will be very successful.
Your "Drive to Davis Hall" is becoming an annual tradition. Who needs at SatNav?!
Thanks Stephen, maybe we can meet up at a show sometime. Regards, Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway Yes, that would be great! I missed you at the Birmingham shindig. It would've been good shake hands.
Great video Charlie. Almost sorry I can’t be there but I’m booked for a golfing weekend in Spain. Maybe next time. Roy.
I’m sure that we will meet up sometime Roy. Regards Charlie
Thank yo for the info. We have booked a room at the Walnut Tree as we are comming from Kent. Looking forward to meeting you in person. Thank You Andrew & Teresa
Wow, A&T, that’s a long way to travel for an Open Day. I do so hope that we live up to your expectations.
Regards Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway Yhank You for your reply, we are travelling down on Friday & staying at the Walnut Tree in West Camel. so we will be there when it starts. I have a number of questions to ask you and may I can give you some tips as I have worked in the railway for over 40 years. Looiking forward to meeting you Regards Andrew
Charlie great drive, perhaps a job with F1 red bull beckons. See you on the 29 th Howard (SDR)
Look forward to it Howard, regards Charlie
good vid on the channel of a train club and show keep up the good vids thanks lee
Thanks Lee, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
I missed the last one, so I’m looking forward to this
Thanks Kevin, be sure to come and say hello. Regards, Charlie.
Nice to know your at it again.
Thanks Gary, we need to spread the word. Regards, Charlie.
Have a great day!!!!😊
Thanks mate. Regards Charlie
Haha .. sped up or not Charlie, me thinks you've got a heavy foot! ;)
Not really, Craig, just poor driving skills! Regards Charlie
graet video, always inspire me to work on mine.
Thanks, Bob, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
Likely to miss it this time as having to go to a Society Board meeting in the afternoon in Bristol. Not sure I can fit both in.
Not to worry, John, I’m sure we’ll see you at Christmas time. Regards, Charlie.
Gutted. From the north west but camping in Kingsbury Episcopi the month after, would have like to have come along
One day Jacob, I’m sure that our paths will cross. Regards, Charlie.
I hope your road isn't under construction for as long as ours has been. One part of our new construction collapsed and we have been waiting 2 yrs. For them to rebuild. The whole project was to take 8 yrs I believe ( add 2) plus what's missing can't be done until the collapsed section is fixed. Est. Date for completion is 2026. Your job is at least 3 yrs. into it, you show your drive every year and it appears to still have quite a bit more construction to go.
It does affect train shows. One wrong turn and they go home 💨😊
You’re right Bob, the attendance has dropped with the road works. Only another 8 months to go!
Regards Charlie
Hope all goes well Charlie, I remember A303, went downit when I visited Shaftesbury and that was probably twenty years ago
Rest assured Martyn, it’s not that much better now. Regards, Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway If I recall it was almost all single carriageway back then
Hopefully, I'll make it again this year. But this time I'm going to miss out on Bristol completely. Because last time I got two penalty charges.
I feel your painSteven, I need to pay every time I enter as well. Regards, Charlie.
Sounds like a fab day out, sadly I'll be coming home from a few days in France so I shan't be able to attend!
As a side note, it's rather strange seeing stuff I've helped design on a screen in CAD come to life in the form of the A303 dualling project, since I'm employed by one of the consultants who helped design the project. Apologies to all for the chaos it has caused!
I’m sure the A303 will be fine, but the bottleneck will move along to Winterboure Stoke. Regards Charlie
One Day.... When I make it back to UK
We’ll be waiting, regards, Charlie
I think I spied a Nissan Bluebird in the car park when you pulled up (I know this is about model trains, but I am a classic car enthusiast).
Good spot James. Regards Charlie
Sorry it's a bit too far from Cleethorpes by train, plus it's Armed Forces Weekend in Cleethorpes, and the landlady of my local expects me to do a shift behind the bar.
Quite understandable,Corin, perhaps we’ll meet up at a show one day. Regards, Charlie.
If I do come along to the event, I will most likely take the bus from Bridgwater. I will probably either make my way to Yeovil or Castle Cary - then connect onto the South West Coaches route 1 which would take me to Queen Camel, then walk from there
That’s a lot of planning Fred, just for an open day. Regards, Charlie.
Would love to have come, 200 mile round trip worth it but money very tight this month
Far too far for an open day Quarry Central. As Charlie.
Hi Charlie Again. Its East Devon Railway not Sussex.😇
Now that makes a little more sense. Regards, Charlie.
Always feels wierd how easily you UK guys make left turns HAHA (I don't drive myself mind you) I'm a canadian so we drive on the right and left turns always take so long in that case.
Thanks EEB, I’m so pleased that you found my driving interesting, if not disturbing! Regards Charlie
Another useful episode of Driving With Charlie.
Are the posted speeds in MPG or KPH?
Have you given the drive a go using phone-based navigation? Some of the online mapping tools are better than others (I know Android Auto helps me navigate the very twisted 600 year-old streets of Boston).
Hi Captain Mac, the speeds are in MPH. Google Maps is our go to option.
Regards Charlie.
Charlie, thank you for your great videos. I’ve recently subscribed to your channels and watched various videos that you have in your channel. I’m 36 years old and after about 2 years finally decided to get into the hobby (space really limited me in the past). Main reason is for my two sons who love trains. I’ve seen your DCC wiring videos which has cleared a lot of questions I had in my mind. I would like to go down the Digitrax route to future protect myself as my model grows. What’s unclear to me is what you initially need (power, controller, distribution etc) in the lead up to actually wiring the track. Would you be able to add in to your videos a description on what you need of everything prior to the bus wire i.e from the house mains to actually power the track for initial start up (Digitrax wise)?
I’m sorry, Jim, but Digitrax isn’t necessarily the ideal system for you.
A lot of it is somewhat antiquated, and I don’t have a real appreciation of what’s now available.
Regards Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway no problem at all; here’s me being a new arrival and thinking it was the latest thing. Back to research for me then, if anyone could recommend similar modern systems it would be most welcomed advice
I think the Exhibitions Manager needs a pat on the back for all his effort. I love the driving. Do you know a guy named Lewis ? Btw. I have booked my campsite for the wrong weekend !!
Are you sure you’re not going to Glastonbury T87?
Regards Charlie.
❤
Thanks mate, regards Charlie
Mi piacerebbe venirvi a trovare, ma non mi fido troppo di tutta quella gente sul lato sbagliato della strada ;)
That’s very kind. Regards, Charlie.
Charlie was that a Nissan blue bird that you pulled up beside?😅
Yes C986, I’ve just gone back over the footage and can confirm that it is. Regards, Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway an oldie and a goodie,
Best of luck with the show 👍🏻
Charlie, rememmber i said the road work by me has lasted over 9 yrs. and I hope yours doesn't take as long? Well just found out ours will be finished in 2032. So after 19 yrs. we will have a new road. Too many details to explain here.maybe I'll "e" mail it to you. If I can figure out how. It will come in as 42 freeway .😅
Thanks Bob, I can only agree. Our road improvement’s completion, is now forecast for next spring/summer!
Regards Charlie.
Thanks again for the Head's up me and swimbo will be coming up Brighton Might bring My Late Mothers Favorite Loco "Hogwarts Express" to give her a run round your Dcc Track
I'll be bringing my Pocket Money.
Hell Chris, that’s a long way to travel for an open day. Regards, Charlie.
