    I dont know if anyone told you about the Keys. But to get the true ending of the game, you have to collect 10 keys before the third boss, and I think take a specific path through the third level. Then you will face the true final boss and ending. Also I think it has to be on hard mode too, you were playing on normal.

    So close... but so far at the same time to beat the game, you're getting closer for that Mike, the fact that you managed to reach the 1st boss of the 3rd (and final) stage means that you'll be able eventually to complete it, also, the SNES version has some hidden rooms that have some weird carts item that once you beat the final boss (if you get all of course) you get on a 2nd loop but with turbo mode enabled (there is a cheat code to do that from the start of the game by the way), the game ends (yeah, assuming you beat the final boss of course) once you beat the 3rd stage WITHOUT getting all the turbo mode cart items from the hidden rooms (NES and Genesis versions lacks those rooms).

  • @BugbearMadness
    @BugbearMadness Před 2 lety +1

    NES version probably seems easier due to the Sprite restrictions of the hardware. NES can handle fewer sprites on screen at once, and the sprites are smaller. That gives you more room to work around the bosses.

    Great playing. This one was a project and took me 19 hours to put to sleep. Only second in difficulty to Gun.Smoke arcade for 2D games I completed on the channel. Both games were brutal but Gun.Smoke managed to be much harder despite having unlimited continues and short , frequent checkpoints. You will definately beat this and would complete Gun.Smoke too. Id like to see you play that shit since I never see anyone play it and would enjoy your take on it. It really should be in the hardest games discussion but doesnt get much attention. The NES version is a joke compared to the original.
    Here are a few cliff notes from the tutorial I posted up to save you some time. I know you dont practice with save states. I practiced all of the bosses to the point of no damage on each form before making my full runs of the game (Heavy save state practice). Still there are some things that can save you a shit ton of trial and error by just knowing beforehand.
    There is a shorter route I got from a speedrun of the game. I have it listed in the description of my tutorial video. It might cut your time by 5-10 minutes but youre still looking at a 70-80 minute intense endurance game either way. More important is how to deal with the bosses.
    Once you master the first boss youve also mastered the final boss. The last boss is a re-skin of the first boss. He may move and shoot slightly faster but its negligible. The game only has four bosses and two of them are near identical. So thats a 2 for 1. Hardest thing about the first boss is just the amount of fucking hits these bosses take. Easy to get sloppy. Looks like you already got that down. There is also some glitched weak spots that speedrunners use on the first boss apparently. Right below his chin and right where his arms insert are supposed to be areas that take more damage. Might want to keep those in mind when using the lob bombs. This applies to the final boss as well.
    Second boss is the hardest boss in the game by far. It can be insane. I did both forms no damage in practice but not back to back in one run. I was happy with that. I had the jist by then. I still got mowed down 6-8 times on that fight in my actual successful run, so dont feel too bad. I was down to my final life when I did finally break through and beat the game. The tutorial version shows my deathless runs of the bosses, so that footage is more refined for demonstration purposes. I have the original run posted up too, with all the fuck ups. There are times when the second boss just wont fucking cooperate and you get fucked, but this is what I try to do.
    For the second boss you can only finish him off by destroying all of his armor plates. This applies to both forms. First form has 16 armor plates and second form has 6 I believe. You can damage his face in the meantime but make sure you destroy all armor before going in for the finishing hits on the center face. Otherwise you are just spending way more time on the boss then need be. I didnt know how the damage worked for a long time. I had to really research it along with practicing maybe 6 hours on just that boss with states. So prioritize armor destruction first then focus on those center face parts. The second boss has a weird mechanic where certain weapon pick ups give you invincibility. The green circle as Im sure you are aware. Use that invincibility period to get in close and take out all those armor pieces. When they are broken they stop flashing and they have a certain visual showing theyre completely broken. Break all of them first. Use the lob bombs to pin the boss into corners. If you get the distance right you can pin the boss with tons of lob bombs. Occasionally he says fuck it and breaks through anyway. 1 Ups drops are RNG as you said. There are no extra continues or 1 ups from points, so dont waste your time collecting money , it just makes the between stage score counter take longer. Try to corner him with the lob bombs and set up your next movement to immediately chain invincibility by grabbing the next lob bomb as your current one is about to run out. You had the idea but try narrowing your lob bomb stream by firing up so that you dont have that super wide arc. Makes it harder to pin him when hes up your ass. The narrower stream with the up or down firing makes it easier to start the lob combo. I believe lob bombs also bounce off walls so that may give you the angles you need too. Aside from that you have to learn how to dodge the projectiles of the second form really well. Those can be very dangerous. Chaining invincibility and understanding how damage works for that boss should save you alot of hassle though. You can also damage both faces with regular pistol and other weapons once the armor is all gone. Theres alot of strange nuances to that fight. I believe its only after ALL armor is removed from one of the forms that you can hit the face with the pistol and other weapons from the sides. If you are able to damage the face in the openings you broke off, with reg weapons, you still will not be able to finish off the face HP until you remove the rest of the armor. Its best to try to chain the special weapons together and use that invincibility. You want to try to avoid using the reg gun for too long.
    For the snakes I found it easiest to ignore all weapon power ups and stay at the very bottom of the screen with the default pistol and only move left and right for the most part. Use your pistol fire to redirect the snake heads if they try coming in on the sides. If you see them not getting pushed back by your pistol shots move up and out of the way. This means the snake head will likely ignore the push back and break through. Remember you can manipulate the snake head movement with your gun fire. The top half of the screen is a safe spot from the snake heads (above the snake heads), however it has tons of blind spots where the spinning projectiles will easily kill you while obscured by the snakes. I reccomend not going up there. If you stay at the bottom and fire pistol only , dodging left to right you can take the snakes out in a few minutes safely and pretty easily.
    The crowd control basics, once learned really apply to all the regular enemy rooms. So thats something that gets better with practice. The final enemy room is really lazy. Its about 10 minutes of the same intense mobs. Once the crowd control comes together and you get decent at that second boss it should start coming together.
    Hope you find some of that helpful. I only watched some of your vid but going to scan through it more now. May add some other comments later. Great to see this one covered.

    Regardless, used to play this one on the Genesis all the time. Sucked at it, but it was still fun. Just to dip into the "which version is better" SNES I think is because the Genesis controller isn't great for this game. I think they're both basically the same otherwise.
