  • His Eminence Metropolitan Jeronymos Muzeeyi presided over the Divine Liturgy at Aghia Sophia - Lubya Cathedral as the parish celebrated their patronal feast.
Churches named Aghia Sophia, which translates as Holy Wisdom rather than Saint Sophia (17 September), traditionally celebrate their parish days on the Feast of Mid-Pentecost which falls on the fourth Wednesday after Pascha. However, this year’s feast was carried forward to this Sunday of the Samaritan Woman, “to make it more glorious with the blessings and attendance of the Bishop”, according to the Parish Priest, Fr Paul Mutaasa.
The wonderful event was graced by the attendence of the area member of parliament, Hon. Abubakar Kawalya and in his speech, the Rubaga North legislator pledged to support the construction of the mega Aghia Sophia Cathedral which is under architectural plans.
More dignitaries who attended include; Mr. Gashumba Frank from PLU, Mr. Mutebe George of Cheap General Hardware & Georgina Gardens, Mrs. Gladys Nalubega, the Managing Director of Holy Cross Orthodox Mission Hospital, Mother Thavoria of St Catherine - Kiyindi Monastery with a number of nuns from the convent; leaders and priests from the Eritrean Community in Uganda.
His Eminence co-served the Divine Liturgy with Reverand Fathers; Kibuuka John Bbosa (Vicar General), Antonios Mutyaba, Christopher Kizito, David Musoke, Christophoros Muyingo and Paraskevianos Ndawula.
