“Happy People” is a documentary series about people from faraway corners of Russia, who live in harmony with their beautiful but harsh natural surroundings.
It is about strong, free-spirited people. Maybe the lives of these people will serve as an example for some one, or will help some one look at himself through other eyes and re-examine his own life.

I found this series of three documentaries very well done. I never thought I would be interested in the middle of Siberia. The filmmaker and the cinematography were amazing. The music and especially the voice of the narrator were the best. These people who they documented are a lost way of life. In today's world. This was a refreshing look at truly independent and resourceful people. Thank you to everyone who participated in making this film. It was an unexpected joy in watching all three films.

Really good series . I have lived and worked in the bush . Did some trapping . But these people are very self reliant . The can make anything out of nothing. Great hunting dogs really well trained. I like the way he makes his dead fall trap . He is really good with an axe . The people are happy and not greedy they live with what they got . Great film.

These men and women who live in this Siberian climate eating a simple diet day after day know what true hardship and a difficult life is, no fast food places here or grocery stores or television and cell phones to entertain. I hope that we in the West are not ever hit with true shortages caused by some disaster, most of us could not survive.

The Happy series reminds me a lot of the state of Minnesota, U.S.A. we have the most extreme cold here in the winter, and this is the land of 10,000 lakes. In the earlier times, this is a lot like Minnesota. Now the corn fields where the men hunted pheasants have been replaced with cities in many areas. It's sad to me. But I can relate to a lot of this when we were still young and innocent in the USA.

Author, Henry Miller was an ex-pat when he came back to America around 1940. He then embarked on a cross country drive here in America.
The one thing that seemed to have a profound affect on him was found in his obversation where he stated, "Nowhere else in the world was the divorce between man and nature so complete as it is in America"...from the novel, "The Air-conditioned Nightmare".

something innately satisfying with subsistence hunting. For me this is not a tale of naturalism but a tale of stark technological transition. The tensions between trying maintain old ways of life as pastimes like boatbuilding and hunting get replaced with chainsaws, firearms and ever more advanced imports. I do wonder how these cultures will evolve or be wiped out in the next decade
