- Audi A4 B6 Airbag Light On. FIX SIDE AIRBAG IGNITER. Air Bag Light
► Our Website for Tools, Parts and more Videos: mechaniclifesty...
We took this video to show you one of the common reasons why AUDI A4 B6 generation Airbag Light might come on. On this generation the connection under the seat quits working overtime and your airbag light will be on. We tried to reset it with VAG COM but the code come right back and it states:
SIDE Airbag igniter upper limit exceeded.
See our video to see how we fixed it. We found it online and it is supposed to be approved procedure by Audi.
This should work on Audi A4 B6 generation and Also on some A6 A3 and A8.

worked, came back here to say thanks!!!
Really well explained !! Jeez dude !! You should do every repair DIY for the A4B6... I would be more than glad to download all those 6 years long videos !! Thanks again you saved my day !!
I don't see explanation, just do like that and thats's all.
What was that connector, what was removed? Was that some kond of pressure switch? I mean sensor for seat what check is someone seating on sear or not?
@@janisvinters8797 it was a connector… you said it yourself. It just continues the flow of current. Not a switch or any kind.
Audi recommends this fix.
Thx
Thanks guys a good well executed repair I have a airbag light on on my A4 B6 convertible 👍👍👍
That was very helpfull, thank you. Thumbs up.
Hello, how are you... I have a 2002 3.0. Disassemble the steering wheel to change the starter switch and when I assemble everything again, the airbag light turns on, check if I counted it correctly and if I did, but it stays on and before this repair it was not on. I annul the connector and put it direct?. Thanks.....
I get the airbag light, but no airbag fault code on my scanner 🤣😂
I just wiggled the yellow connector and it's interesting to see that the red light went off then back on again. Leads me to think that this fix will work for me too.
I'm worried about disconnecting the battery because I don't want to lose the use of the CD player.. I don't care about the radio but I want to keep the CD player working
good video thanks
do u think its gonna work on GOLF MK5 2005 ? I got the same problem dude !
HI.
Is it necessary to replace the plug with a permanent connection?
Or maybe you can clean the plug ... if it helps?
Obviously, the problem is poor contact inside the connector, but apparently it's a very common issue and Audi does indeed recommend cutting the connector and hard-wiring it instead.
I have an Audi A3 and I purposely removed the connected wires from the seats since I don't use any warming feature or other stuffs I thought they were completely useless. Now the airbag light is on. Can smo explain me what has to do an airbag with the seats. Is it when I have an accident the seat will propell me to the moon?😂
I have done this repair, it remained off for a day or so but has now come back on. Do I replace the crash sensor in the B pillar next......? Thanks.
@@Naughty_Squad yes I did thanks.
@@Naughty_Squad it wasn’t the connector or the sensor that was at fault. If you remove the seat back and look along the bottom, you will see a horizontal metal support, this breaks and creates a sharp end, this sharp end rubs on the wiring loom for the airbag. It eventually pushes through the wire insulation and creates the fault, because it earths whichever wire it breaks into.
Seat back removal, prise gently from the top, looking down you will see where it’s held, use a long flat blade screwdriver lever the seat back off at both sides, take care it’s quite fragile, bottom part will come off when you pull it straight up.
after this fix airbag light drops off automaticly? or u need to delete the error with computer again after fix?
+Edgars Krūmiņš after fixing it unfortunately you will have to reset/delete the code in order for the light to turn off.
ok, Thank you! :)
Tas tiešām strādā?
@@fr0styy756 Or WIll It Blend?
Are they all on drivers side I have 2006 Audi a4 convertible
Golf MK4 N153 resistance too high driver side airbag, should this fix work thanks...
Hello mate I have code 01638 rear crash sensor? Could this be the issue as I'm unable to resolve the problem that's for your advice :)
I had a problem in my audi a4 b7 notice everytime i open drivers door light comes on and check airbag igniter driverside. What color of th e wire in the door there are bunch of wires.
Will airbag still work properly after this?
That's what I'm wondering.
Yes. If there is no error any more, the airbag will work just fine.
Of course.
The purpose of the connectors is just in case you need to remove the seat from the car.
Joining the wires together just takes the connector out of the equation.
The electricity just flows through the wires instead of through the wires, through one side of a connector, another side of the connector then the wires again.
Nothing is different until you need to take the seat out of the car..... Then you'd need to cut your wires to have that separation.
I'll try and draw a little diagram.
--------| |---------
--------| |--------- (that's the wires with a connector)
--------------------
-------------------- (that's the wires that are joined together).
Electricity flows through both, but the second one doesn't have a dodgy connector that's causing the error code.
I have a 2002 VW Passat Wagon GLS V6 4Motion, my airbag light came on and I had it diagnosed at the dealer. They said it was the passenger side curtain airbag that is causing the fault. Would I use the same procedure for the passenger side? Or do I need to replace the airbag?
better replace your car
I tried your solution. But it didnt fix the problem. It says this
01222 Active/Static
Side airbag crash sensor, passenger side - G180 - open circuit
I removed the clip under the chair. The yellow clip. From the floor
Black seat to blue floor
Blue seat to White floor
These colours were in this clip. The brown i didnt connect, its just hanging there. But it Will not reset
U got an clue whats wrong ? When i watched live data from my computer who was plugged in i could see there was " too high " problems on driver seat also. But didnt get it as an error on the computer. Help please
Cheers
Ok so this video is how to remove and by-pass a poor connector under the seat.
Hello. My audi a4 b6 1,6 has white wire to. Where should i connect that? Pls help!
Hi did you find out where to connect white wire? I have the same problem
I think you just leave it.
i have the following error : fault 00654 seat belt tensioner igniter, driver side (N153) 001-upper limit exceeded MIL ON. I followed what is on the video and it did not work what could be the problem?
Hi! AudA6 2005. Error code 01219 --> Rear Driver side AirBag problem. Problem can be fixed by the same way (under driver seat)?
Hi I have on side which the wires are brown black and blue and the other side brown green and white I presume brown goes to brown so is it blue to white black to green Or. Black to white and blue to green
Hi, i have the same problem, did you manage to work out which wire went where? Tia
If the trouble code is for passenger side, the connector is under passenger seat and if it's driver side code, then it's under the driver seat? Or only one connector for both sides? Thanks in advance
why would you use a pair of grips/pliers to close the inline crimps ?
you have no guarantee of a proper compression joint.
anything other than dedicated crimpers is a bog job and likely to fail in the long run.
tapeing and double tapeing the joint ????
this person is definitely no auto eletrician, has the answer but not the means to do a professional job.
why didn't you heat shrink the tubing after install?? extremely vital
I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't have used those connectors in the first place those don't connect very well.
This is old Audi, before 2009, anything newer is totally different,
what type of screw did you use to lose the seat bolts
M10
M10 What ? Does it say the whole name for the tool ?
What about a 07 A4 Cabrio?
+Dean Gassert what code do you get. If it is the same one this will be the problem.
I have a 01212 code igniter for belt tensioner rear passanger any suggestions?
@@DEANLATEMODEL18 I got these same issue. Did you fix it?
my cabriolet wasn't the same at all.
Is it the same procedure for the POWERED SEATS???
Why wouldn't you solder a connection as vital as that?
+Jake Joseph nateronline.com/Technical_Bulletins/2008.02.11_Airbag_ignitor_side_DTC_01217_01218.pdf
+World Mechanics Very interesting, thank you for posting that.
+Jake Joseph No problem Jake. Hopefully it was helpful!
Airbags are very sensitive to changes in resistance and soldering over time increases the resistance..
Audi tell you not to
Tried this on mine after doing the wire the God damn light still comes back on, it goes off for a second then back on, I scanner I had to pay for said passenger side airbag open circuit continuous
My b6 s4 code 01218.
Same ?
Same thing but passenger side
I've done the same procedure but still the air bag lamp stays on
You need to clear the code. reset it with a obd2 scanner. if it does not work something else than the connector is the problem
@@Naughty_Squad Better open the dash, identify the airbag led and cut it
@@aldodelcorso9712 that's really silly advice 😁
@@CraigMansfield Damn right 😁
That's what i've done actually 😁
hey i have code 01222 will this fix that?
pleas sir lhave problem with airbag ignitir side/ resistance too high .what should I do?
and what you did eventually? :)
@@FCJaca I wanna know as well 98' A6 2.4L V6
@@CerealKiller. I managed to "repair" it, I had to replace the connector under the seat with resistor and it works like a charm
@@FCJaca could you tell me what type and resistance It was? Thanks bro in advance
@@FCJaca what resister use ? thanks
Whats up with lots of rrrrr’s lol
Tell me about it. I cannot get rid of them lol
and then not open airbag automaticli? :/ audi a4 2004
🤣
