Agad describing my style of play: "An inaccuracy leading to a mistake leading to a blunder. " Ouch. But _so_ well said...
I often skip the first two steps
I don't even need to skip. blunders are the only moves I play
I skip over the mistake and go straight to the blunder.

"An inaccuracy leading to a mistake, leading to a blunder" sums up not only my chess, but my life
Not just yours
I skip over the mistake and go straight to the blunder.
I felt so happy finding the pause the video move.
I have seen patterns like that in chess puzzles where the rook is trapped in the middle of the board.
💯💯
Starting from say 1 or 2 moves after Carlsen's inaccuracy, I wonder at what point would an engine also not be able to recover from a player of Fabiano's caliber.
I think the point is more that engines don't blunder. They might not be able to save a game blundered by a human, but they never have to save a game blundered by themselves
You completely missed his point
@@realmheart3751 that's true but it's all good conversation
Prob not able to recover that position but they can definitely still win starting a piece down from the beginning
@@jackf3619 I don't think Stockfish could beat Fabiano giving him knight odds. Maybe a few times out of many, but overall not happening. I've seen IMs beat Stockfish with those odds.

Thanks!
Agad i miss your saga series. I hope you could do another. I would love to see a Magnus saga because as long as I've been a fan he's been the champ I'd love to see how he got there.
Nice opening attack by Fabiano seems Magnus dug himself a joke he could not get out of Thanks Agadmator
What would happen if Magnus took the knight with the bishop?
Same question....I was calculating same and looks fine to my 1200 elo mind 😅
@@amazingbm9697 Winning move 💯😂
Same question lol. Thinking about it, perhaps a6 also traps the rook?
Bxd4 Rxd4, Rb5 a6
Black captures bishop with rook, now white can save his rook by moving it to b5, but now black plays a6 and the rook is still lost as rook covers b4 and bishop covers b3.
Please can some Grandmaster who is watching answer this question, so that we can rest our minds😅
Can u show the variation where after magnus rook was trapped, bishop takes on knight on d4. Rook takes bishop on d4 and magnus rook to b5. Black would be one pawn up bt it was still playable i guess..or am i missing something?
That's what I was wondering as well, and if Bxd4 fxg5 then Bxh8 and Rxh8 seems playable
Yes I was wondering this too!
Your plan is to save the rook by going to B5. But take a look at the squares more closely - where can it go from there?
@@rudrapathak8901 If Bxd4 then black takes back on d4, not g5. Your plan of course is to go Rb5 to save the rook, but take a look more closely at the squares. Where can the rook go from there?
Fabulous fabiano 😎
Thank you for the post. May I ask you where you are located?
To castle or not to castle that is the question.
To those asking why Magnus didn't capture the black knight with his bishop, the answer is that a similar thing would happen at a different order:
- White bishop takes knight
- Black Rook takes bishop
- White Rook must go to b5 (only safe square)
- Black plays a6 or c6 (both work)
- The white Rook is trapped again
There is also the variation that after Black rook takes bishop, White plays King to e3 threating to capture the Rook, but then Black moves the rook to safety (b4) and the White Rook is similarly trapped.
I don't buy this though, because white has e3? If the g5Rook goes b5 and a6 or c6 as you said, then white plays e3. If black fights to keep control of the 4th rank by moving to a4, just b3, kicking the rook off the 4th rank, making b4 safe for the white rook. Absolutely No idea where the game might go from there though.
Honestly I think Magnus could've made equality by taking the knight, but realized he'd trapped his rook, and pressure/frustration made him overlook bishop takes on d4.
@@dpo2078 Yes I thought the same, e3 allows white rook to go b5 and safely confront black rook with bishop protecting it. If a4 from the rook, then b3 and the hole rank is unsafe for the black rook (making it safe for the white rook)
@@dpo2078 Oh actually... black rook goes to D2 instead of B4, giving check and ending the game soon after
@@dpo2078 But then Black moves rook to A2 to check the white king, then picks up the rook

Not often that Magnus gets spanked like that.
great videos. would it be possible to include the move timestamps here in some way?
what!?!? he just got to take the knight, and the rook was saved!! no one else see this? if he takes the knight in d4 the pawn is pined to the rook in h8, so if Caruana takes the rook he loses another one so equal material. and if he takes the bishop Magnus can move the rook to b5 !! I'm missing something? after c4 he can challenge black rook with pawn to e3 and the rook will be saved! ...
If 21. Bxd4, then Caruana would play 21. …Rxd4 and if Carlsen tries to save the rook with 22. Rb5 then Fabi just plays 22. …a6 and the only way to attempt to temporarily save the rook is 23. Bh3 so you lose the bishop instead of the rook, but you’re still down material and in a dead lost position and Fabi can still just take the rook.
Magnus can save the rook by playing BxN, that frees the b5 square for the pawn. If PxR the the bishop can take the rook on h8.
R:N 2.R:B Rb5 3.a6 and the Rook is till trapped
Cheers to Fabi 🎈
Is the rook realy trapped? What of you take the knight with the bishop (Bxc4)?
@ 4.54 in video. Bxd4 Rxd4 Rb5, does it save the rook, I calculated no further
what is maggening to Hapnus?
6:30 After ... Nb5, why doesn't Magnus just take the pawn on f5 with Bxf5?

6:28 he missed bishop captures pawn.
I was asking this same question...
@@SamuelPearlmanand yet no one else sees it but you and I!?
@@FoxyJohn Oh ... maybe because then Rf8 pins and wins the bishop?
@@SamuelPearlman ahhh yes!!!
It seems like the internet is bent on showing me English openings that blow up in White's face. First was a K vs K match with Karpov on the black pieces going into woodchipper mode, then like three, and now this "C vs C" match with the same theme.
I guess the moral of the story is if 1.c4 ...e5, white's game is in its last throes.
Wow. Magnus was sleep walking in this one.
He is Fabiii ... Nice opening attack
2:56
Why not rook takes Knight?
at 5:06, how about bishop x knight.
if pawn x rook then bishop can capture black rook.
if rook captures bishop then white rook escapes b5?
Yes! I saw that too.
after Rb5 black plays a6, and the rook is again trapped
Last Time Magnus Played English,
he got Crushed by Nodirbek in the
Symmetrical Variation. 😅
i friggin love it when Fabi wins.
Wait, Day 2 Started ? 😳
06:02 Whats the problem with Bd4??
Inaccuracy - missing better opportunity, without critical position change
Mistake - significant position change or missing opportunity to make such a change
Blunder - the response that you did not consider leading to critical transformation of position, not in your favor
5:54 if Magnus just takes Bxd4, doesn't this save him? It frees up the b5 square for the rook to escape, and if the pawn takes on g5, you have a discovered attack on blacks rook?
Black can respond with rook takes d4, and after white moved his room to b5, a6 wins the rook
My thoughts exactly... But I guess then you can play pawn to a6, after rook b5, and still the rook is trapped...
Not true. “At 5:00 bxd4 if pawn captures g5 then bxh8 to win back the piece and magnus would have strong pawns right side of the board. If rxd4, then magnus can play rook to b5. If Fab attacks it again with either pa6 or c6, you go king e 3 attack fab rook at d4. So either both rook takes or if fab goes rook c4 magnus rook on b5 escapes to b3 as fab rook blocks the bishop. If fab rook to a4, magnus goes pc3 them fab rook has to leave 4 th rank or trade then magnus rook goes to b4 and saves it.”
@@heavenyeahh1196 Well, I guess, but you will have 3 to 0 on queen side (you will lose the b pawn). And you can't go b3, since the bishop covers that. And also the d5 square.
later edit: It's completely trapped. If you go king e3, than pawn c5 solves everything for black. Even if you play rook b5, you just delay the capture after pawn c5. If you play pawn e3, than you go rook a4, and if pawn b3, than you have a2 with check....
At 5:00 bxd4 if pawn captures g5 then bxh8 to win back the piece and magnus would have strong pawns right side of the board. I dont know why magnus didnt play this. I saw many of you here would do so. Are we better than magnus here?
Bro Fabi doesn't need to move his rook on d4. He can simply double rooks on the d file by moving his other rook to d8. In this way everything is defended.
after f6, why not Bxd4, frees up 1 of the squares for the rook. worst case, the pawn takes rook, Bxh8 and it's traded down.
couldn;t magnus capture the knight with the bishop? if fabi recaptures with the rook, he moves the rook on B2; if he instead than captures the rook with the pawn, he gives up his own rook, leading to a even trade of rook&bishop for rook&knight
Maybe you can do a video on that Magnus comeback you were talking about in the video from 2017. I can't find that video anywhere!
@agadmator
I remember that game, I just have no idea how to find it for you.
I remember it particularly since I always wondered what would happen if GMs kept playing a piece down.
Magnus won because the apponent pieces were nor coordinated. And he kept playing best moves after the blunder.
When Magnus played Qb5+ and fabi denfeded with Bd7 wasn't the bishop on b4 hanging?
rook h1 haning
@@bullcrapp Of course! Thank you!
5.15: Why Bishop captures knight does not work? It frees a square for rook
I don't think Magnus could grind this position out against fabi.
At 5:21, I don't see the point of advancing the pawn to e3. Maggy should have captured the knight with bishop, if pawn captures his rook, bishop captures black rook. If black rook captures his bishop, the white rook goes to b5. Am I missing something ?
6:41 - Why Fabi didn't capture the bishop on e1 with the rook on d1?
"cos of bishop to A6 with check followed by white rook takes black rook
Wait. How about 4:59 after pawn f6 you play bishop takes knight d4?
RxB Rb5 c6 and the Rook is still trapped. agadmator should have discussed that line though in my opinion.
There was a way for Magnus to save his rook ♜ if he captures the knight ♞ with his ♝, leaving a free square that was covered by the knight ♞
True. But after a6 the rook would still be trapped
I dont understand, why didnt magnus took the knight with bishop ? if that happened, pawn takes rook but bishop takes caruanas rook, then equal material ..... or caruana takes the bishop but then magnus rook can escape since the kngith is gone
RxB Rb5 c6 and the rook is still trapped. agadmator should have at least discussed this line though I think.
At 6:40 is it not a bishop blunder by Magnus?
No. If Black plays Rxe1, White counters with Ba6+, which comes with a discovered attack on the Rook. Black is forced to either move the King, or block with the Knight. Either way, White's next move is Rxe1, picking up the Rook in exchange for the Bishop. This is why Fabi played Kc7, to prevent any future ideas of Ba6+.
nope there is a6 check by bishop which gives rook
rxe1 ba6+ discovered attack on the rook
In the critical position, why doesn't White play Bxd4, and then Black can't take the Rook on g5 because the Rook on h8 would hang. And if after Bxd4 Black plays Rxd4, then the White Rook can escape to b5. I'm sure I'm missing something, but surely that was worth a mention.
Then black pawn to a6 and few moves later rook still gonna trapped ..
👍
Why Bxd4 wasn’t an option? After that we have
1. Bxd4 Rxd4 2. Rb5 Bc4 3. e4 Rd2+ and so on
or
1. Bxd4 fxg5 2. Bxh8 Rxh8
What am I missing?
Seems last night Magnus was studying the games from last world chess championship and wake up making blunders 😂
Fabiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Magnus was fighting vs one of those monster comp preps Fabi massacres his super GM opponents with.
How about take the knight and move your rook
I dont see the Magnus 2 or 3 years ago missing a move like ...f6.
WOAH, what on earth is wrong with Bxd4 @6:01 ??
Magnus falls twice in a row. Has Fabi found his Achilles' heel?
Thats the result of shifting the focus to poker.....
Magnus throwing lately.
I cant remember the last time Magnus got gobsmacked like that
@6:41 doesn't that hang the bishop? Why can't fabi just play rxe1?
Because then B-a6+, and the rook hangs.
6:02 why not BxN?
At 6:05 why not bishop captures knight ?
BxN RxB; Rb5 a6... and the rook is trapped again
Why not bxe4? Then free up b5 square to save the rook and if black plays fxg5, bxh8
Are you going to go visit the tournament?
6:29
Bishop could have captured pawn on f6..
Magnus missed that move which I found..
My dumbass after watching it ten times realizes bishop could be pinned and captured..😑
goooooo fabi
at 2:14 couldn't magnus take a free bishop at b4??
white's h1 rook is hanging
"Magnus Carlsen resigned the game". How often would you come across this quote in this channel ? Even the best make blunders !!!
"Messed up Fabi's pawn structure a little bit". Magnus would have Fabi 4 pawn islands. You cannot mess up a pawn structure any more than that.
ok smartass
I feel Magnus is suffering recently or not fully concentrating. He is in off-form, kind of.
Not showing why Bishop takes Knight doesn’t work for white at 6:05 is criminal…
true
6:41 why cant Black rook take bishop on E1?
Ba6+, and then white's rook captures black's
game starts at 00:45
2:13 what if he takes black bishop?
rook on h1 is hanging
@@Jonathan-ec9ppif he takes the rook after capturing the bishop, white can capture the knight as well.
Magnus was thinking about his next poker game
Most unfortunate that BxN and Rb5 fails to a6.
f6 - bxd4 ???
I think after black takes the bishop the white rook can not escape to b5 because it will still be trapped after a6 or c6.
Then Rxd4 and the white rook is still trapped.
@@lukaskinder6983 Yeah, that's it. Rb4 is then covered by the opponents rook. Could trick a 1300 player tho :)

Agad, what's your opinion of FIDE's use of the terms 'slow rapid' & 'fast rapid' please in WFRCC?
It's a conspiracy against Wesley So.
Afaik:
(0,10) is blitz.
[10,60) is rapid.
[60,120) is unrated classical.
[120,infinity) is rated classical.
So what's 'slow rapid'?
Try to check out the maths here - they said both 32.5min & 60min are 'slow rapid'. Does this strike you as odd?
I see only 2 possible definitions for slow & fast rapid.
Def 1 - slow rapid means unrated classical [60,120) and fast rapid is rapid [10,60).
--> this means Wesley So is not classical WFRCC but slow rapid WFRCC while Hikaru is fast rapid WFRCC.
Def 2 - slow rapid & fast rapid cut up rapid [10,60) into resp [35,60) and [10,35).
--> 2 issues here. 60min is not in either of these. Also, 32.5 is in [10,35). So neither 60 nor 32.5 are slow rapid. Lol. Wesley So is again classical WFRCC while Hikaru is (fast) rapid WFRCC.
Def3 --> Since 15+2=17 is fast rapid, [10,X) is fast rapid & [X,120) is slow rapid for some 17 < X < 32.5. like say X is some arbitrary number like X=20 or X=30. Lol yeah right!!
