    Good to see your office and workflow now you’re settled after the move. I’d love to see a video on what’s in your kitbag now that you have fully transitioned to the Z system and are shooting the 600mm

      Will certainly be doing this in the next few months as I’ve had quite a few upgrades and changes! A few of the same old bits and bobs but certainly some new stuff that’s going to be very exciting to use!

    Great video, Tom. Never heard of the FlexiSpot standing desks, so that was useful to me as I am considering getting a standing desk for the reasons you mentioned. Hope you do some post processing videos in the future. I've always admired the look of your final images. Thanks!

      Cheers Mac, glad you enjoyed and found the video helpful. Certainly would happily recommend them, I’ve been very happy with mine, helps keep me moving!
      I shall certainly be doing some post processing videos - I have a big trip coming up soon but when I’m in the office after I’ll certainly work on some as a few people have asked!

    Hi Tom, Great video, love your content (first met you on a Wex day at Pensthorpe some years ago!). Now the question: I have an MI Mac Mini and a Macbook M1 Max - the latter is much faster- however the thing I get concerned about switching to the MBP full time and moving the Mini on is battery life if leaving it connected to power all the time, do you have any concerns? Regards, Gordon

    • @TomMasonPhoto
      @TomMasonPhoto  Před 10 měsíci +1

      So as far as I know - someone might know better, the new Battery health management apple put into the latest Macs helps to reduce the effects of the "Overcharging" battery degradation, by re routing power when the batteries are fully charged, meaning it shouldn't effect the battery like it would have with older machines. now only time will tell but TBH I had my old MacBook Pro for over a decade - swapped it out with a new battery and passed it onto my girlfriend and it still works pretty well for a 2012 machine, so I'm not too worries + likely I will upgrade in 5-6 years so its not something I'm too worried about, Cheers, Tom

    Hi Tom. Good to see you back. Interested in the Cinema Display screen. Looking to upgrade my old iMac to mac mini m2 . Not settled on a screen yet. Looking at Benq 2k screen. Is the cinema screen classed as 2k, 4k? How would you find it for every day stuff - word processing, looking at your videos etc. thanks Guy

    Great stuff, I use a riser desk for work, and do find i stand around 2/3 of the day, but it is nice to sit down again after! Top tip on the 30-inch display, may seek one out. I guess you have business insurance? Be good to know what kind of cover you have as don't seem to be able to find anything where i can name specific items (600mm primes etc) Thanks

      @TomMasonPhoto  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I generally use the tailor made photography ones like Photoguard etc, I change most years depending on the premium. This year i've got quite a few big changes to make with selling a few bits and bobs but yeah, they are good places to look!

    I use and love standing desk. But the better money saving option is to buy a tall non-moving desk and a tall chair. The desk will be much cheaper because no moving mechanisms and also has nothing to break down. When you're tired of standing, you'd sit on the tall chair.

  • @alec9105

    How do you find the Caldigit hub for the mac. I have tried a few others but always freeze or have to reboot my mac.

    • @TomMasonPhoto
      @TomMasonPhoto  Před 10 měsíci

      I’ve found it rather flawless TBH - the connection and charging works great, never had a drive disconnect when using etc. also it does really well with the Cinema Display that from what I’ve read can have issues if you don’t have consistent power through the USB into the adaptor. In Regards to speed my drives all run at top speed and seems like I’m using them directly into my laptop natively. Been very very happy with the TS4!

    Hello Tom, Love the look of that port... QQQ I know you will say just get a Apple M2 machine. But I have been using an iMac 5K for X years, Now is the time to upgrade, So I was thinking about a M2 Studio, but I am seeing lots of M3 News so that may be hear in 6 to 8 mouths. as I am OK with my iMac a bit slow and issue are starting to appear. would you wait or just go m2....Super videos.

    • @TomMasonPhoto
      @TomMasonPhoto  Před 10 měsíci

      TBH I'm using an M1max and it already has a ton of power and huge upgrade over my older MPB and iMac, I had to wait ages for the custom build that really I only got my MPB about 8 months before the M2 but... I'm not worried. The upgraded performance has just been a game changer for editing away from home as well as just the speed for all task (although Adobe need to hurry up and update Lightroom to make the most of it!) but if you do upgrade Max out out as much as you can for the longevity. I'll likely grab a studio Mac at some point in the next few years but right now my MPB is providing easily everything I need! couldn't be happier, so id rather have the extra 8 months of productivity!

      @@TomMasonPhoto I've got an M1 and it edits video on Final Cut amazingly well, but I've noticed that it's much slower with Lightroom. Is that why? Have Adobe not really optimized it properly for the new chips still?

    Hello Tom,
    you said a lot "I use it every single day".
    Makes me think what is your every day, as professional wildlife photographer, like?
    I mean it is obvious, that you can‘t bring a vlogging camera everytime, while you have important assignments
    What most professional wildlife photographers share on CZcams, is probably more their off-time, then their real daily life.
    Maybe you can make a "talking-head video" for those who are interested.
    And perhabs you have some b-roll (video-) footage to underline your story as well. 😃
    I personally would love to see this, because I wonder how does the real life of the sucessful wildlife photographers look like?
    Best regards,
    Eike

    • @TomMasonPhoto
      @TomMasonPhoto  Před 10 měsíci

      Indeed I 100% understand where you are coming from, as a pro the days can look very different, sometimes I'm behind the camera for a full week if I'm shooting something, other weeks it can be more email based and catching up with clients. its a hard thing to showcase as its rather varied. These days I am more and more trying to take at least some sort of BTS video on my bigger projects in order to give some content about them, however I know it can be hard to imagine the kind of "average day" for a professional wildlife photographer!

      @@TomMasonPhoto Thank you for your answer!
      I see. It will be kind of difficult to make a interesting video of these various tasks.
      I mean the most interesting point is probably how do the successful pro‘s make their money.
      But I can absolutely unerstand, if people don‘t want to tell this.

  • @JoelRiveraMD

    Would you get the Z600 PF 6.3 even though you have the 600F4 ? (Mostly for its size )

    • @TomMasonPhoto
      @TomMasonPhoto  Před 8 měsíci +1

      For me it's rather simple, probably not. I don't think I'd want to trade the pro quality and the speed of the 600 f4 for the 6.3 lens, yes its smaller and lighter, handy for certain situations, however for the most part, the way I work, I'm going to locations with a defined knowledge of what I'm shooting, not tending to be hiking and moving a lot with the camera out. Of course if I did need the 600 pf for a specific use then I could likely borrow it, but actually looking at the options I think if I needed a lightweight portable lens for the z mount the 400mm 4.5 + TC would be my choice. Drop 40mm focal length, gain flexibility of aperture, no PF element so more pleasing backgrounds. But for the birder who wants to walk around with a small portable long tele the 600mm 6.3 will certainly suit many many photographers!
