- In Game 6 of the 1998 N.B.A. Finals, Michael Jordan gets low and turns the corner at the top of the key. He attacks Bryan Russell's waist with his shoulder and pushes off to create room for the step-back jumpshot.

Can’t believe it’s been 25 years. I still remember jumping up like a loon when he hit that shot.
We witnessed historic glory. We were there, dude.
Right
Greatest sequence in NBA history maybe sports. Jordan makes a quick lay up cuts Utah lead to 1, he never clears defensively an knew Malone was gonna get it being the Goat defender he is he timed it perfectly an since he has hands the size of Shaq completely strips Malone comes down watch the clock an hit the greatest jumper ever. Michael Jordan has no debate. An you hear Isiah Thomas ol salty self talking about refs didn't call that because it wasn't a foul, Russell was getting crossed over either way. Isiah the one who started all this nonsense about a push off. Let's say some (haters) say it's a push off? Ok an what? Anyone with a brain knew Bulls would've won game 7. See if Ray Allen misses in 2013 the series is over if Kyrie Irving misses in 2016 series over this wasn't the case Jordan was up in this series unlike that bum they try to put him in a debate with.
I remember my heart pounding from the nerves and then instantly jumping up and down like a madman in the middle of my room hahaha those were the days! :-)

Michael jordan is so good the commentators knew the shot would go in before the ball goes in
Well if they saw the angle that it's about to go in might as well say it real quick
The audio is off in this video, in reality Bob Costas makes the call right after MJ sinks the shot.
@@GhostNinjaTacticalnope, just listen when its in 17 seconds.
@@banggoman7371He meant THIS video is out of sync. Watch any other video of the shot and you hear the commentary say the line afterwards, not before. Pretty is to check lol
@@RazOls its super obvious too cuz you can clearly hear the net swoosh at 0:21 before the ball even goes in
This is what goats do. No time to think it over, no delay to draw up any plan. No nothing, just push the ball up the court, no commercials, no time to think about what ifs. Just do it
Like NIKE... LIKE MIKE...
I recently watched a small interview where Jordan said that his shots had been short most of the game and he held out his hand like a pose on that shot to make sure he followed through to the end. I'd heard for years that he did that to show off or something like that. Sure enough, I went back and watched the entire game 6 and an awful lot of shots were in fact short, hitting the front lip of the rim. In fact, the shot before that one was a layup because the jump shot before the layup went short. I'm a baller myself and know that if I miss a few jumpers, I'm going inside for some layups because I need to see the ball start going in again to keep my confidence up. I never knew he posed just to follow through because he knew the money was all on the table. Fundamentals matter. The GOAT thought so.
Still remember watching this. At the time I was rooting for Utah but with the ball in MJ’s hands, the writing was on the wall. This terrifying man was truly the Angel of Death.
Well said. Especially the Angel of death thing.
Most iconic moment in NBA history...
Lebrons 2016 comeback vs the warriors is much more iconic especially his block on igudala
@@leerogish7223 No it’s not…lebum has no iconic moments…
"Chicago with the lead!"... man... goosebumps until these days...
I don’t know how people watch this and think a greater or better player has ever existed.
Yep the video shows who was MJ, the best defender and offensive player
To all those "experts" claiming it was an offensive foul because of the push: No.
MJ accelerated with the dribble and did a clean crossover. When done really well, the crossover sends the defender off balance because of the sudden change of direction. MJ was really great at the fundamentals. His put his left arm up so he can stop the dribble with the left hand. There is no way that his left hand could push Russel to stumble to floor. Maybe it was a slight push, but nowhere near an offensive foul.
That by far is the biggest load of bs. I type this while wearing Jordan 11s. Meaning I love Mike, but that's a foul
Ceejay your youtube ref credentials are not valid. Move along
It didn't get called. So it wasn't a foul.
@@ceejay7803 at this time Byron Russell was 6’8” 225 lbs, momentum, not MJs left made Byron fall. I’ve seen this play hundreds of times and no way was this a “push off”.

Greatest Player..Greatest shot
never knew about it that the first mistake Bryon Russell made was that he just slightly reached, which triggered MJ to drive and cross him over, wow, such a small detail shows how well he was able to read the defense and use it
You reach I Teach
He didn’t reach? He just tried to play Jordan straight up and body him up. Jordan was quicker so he just went into triple threat and blew by Russell. At that point Jordan already had him beat. Russell slid when Jordan crossed over which caused him to throw his hand up, the rest is history. At no point did Russell slightly reach.
Jordan pushed off & Russell wasnt even a good perimeter defender
@@Reaper13-hi3yo there was no push off.
Michael Jordan is the Goat 🐐! Greatest of all time!
He admitted this was a push off 😂
Bryon Russell slipped there's no push off and the Delta center went quiet like a library cause the game was on father's day and Jordan scared the living hell outta of you
Lol. Yes, it's certainly easy to slip when someone has your hand on your butt, pushes off of you, then drags their hand to your foot to trip you.
Exactly
There was very clearly a push lol
Agreed! I’ve watched that thing hundreds of times from every angle available and there is clearly NO PUSH. Yes, MJ had a hand on him. That doesn’t indicate a push. Russell just blew the play.
@@taewiz863nah if you look closely he def touched him but never extended his arm therefore not a. Push
Jordan is the greatest clutch player in NBA history.
Greatest of all time
There’s no question. Steal, crossover, swish. LeBron could never do that.
@@lraouxLeBron would never get swept back to back years twice in a row by the Celtics. Also lebron don’t need to push off with his hand. Goofy. What did Jordan do without pippen? Not shit. Bird is undefeated against Jordan and Isaiah Thomas beat him twice. Played weak competition. But one thing I’ll give to Jordan is LOAT. Luckiest of all time. He was blessed with a great GM from the beginning
Greatest push foul😂

This might the perfect 50 seconds to prove his GOATness. Shows why he was 1st team all defense and then kills them at the other end.

This is beautiful.
GOAT shit...
One of the greatest sequence of events ever in a Finals game. Fkn amazing.
God that shot was beautiful wasn’t it
NBC was stellar
Nearly 25 years later and Isiah Thomas is still hating on MJ. 😅
Haha yea ! What a d*ck ! 😂 No one remembers the pistons & Jordan is Beloved By Everyone ! ✅
Any coach ought to study this shot. Understand his on earth MJ was good. First, he moved I on Russell like a bull, pushed past. Then when Russell was down, he took his shot. Question is, what could Russell do differently?
Instead of trying to stick on MJ, Russell could have anticipated his next move, quickly jump to that spot, regain defensive position. MJ was quick, but predictable. Smart guys could know what he was going to do, but just weren't fast enough to stop it.
Facts 💯
Unless it was Larry Bird. He could have anticipated MJ's next move and stopped him.
absolutely nothing ‼️
@@evanvansickle7181 it’s one thing to know exactly what’s going to happen it’s another thing entirely to stop it.

Who came here after Jamal Murray hit that game winning shot and Lebron missed that wide open three?
I’m here after Murray hit that 3 at halftime to go up 8 in 20 seconds lol
Biggest Stage. Biggest moment in basketball? Biggest moment in pop culture at the time. Never had a bigger audience for a basketball game on tv since.
Everyone knew this was it. This was the last one. It could be his last game. And he gave us this.
That's why he's the GOAT. For eternity.
The GOAT 🐐
The greatest steal, the greatest push, and the greatest shot
I'm born and raised in Logan square my whole life 37 years and a Bulls fan thru and thru and it always makes me said to see the push off cuz if that was today, they def would've reviewed that and seen something different.
He’s been on my list
O maior da história, o melhor da história, no ultimo arremesso de uma final e de sua carreira. O maior arremesso da história.
Biggest mistake of Russell is going for a steal. It's easy to say that MJ pushed off. But it was Russell's momentum that made him slip. Jordan simply used a crossover on Russell. On slow mo it looked he pushed. But in reality it was a slight tap.
Nah Jordan pushed bruh
The ultimate clutch player. The greatest ever. The GOAT.
how beautiful it is
So beautiful 😍
Old Jordan cross over and hit winning shot.

THE GOAT
It’s wild that he was more confident in this shot that a truly wide open Scottie on the wing. Wide open. Malone was willing to allow Scottie a wide open 3 to prevent Jordan driving like he did on the previous play.
Soooooooooooooooooo beautifulllll
bryon's momentum made it look worse than it was. it was a tap sure, definitely not a push. watch any game today and you'll see offensive players use their off hand to shield the defender's hands/body on a drive attempt. as a coach you should know lol
Perfect call by Bob Costas.
Goat 🐐
This is Classic!
La jugada més important de l'història esportiva. Segurament també és l'esportista més gran. Llàstima que els meus Rockets no van jugar cap final contra els Bulls.
he escorted that man to defeat No Push Off!!
That's my earliest sports memory
I was remembering watching this as a kid and hoping that Utah would win the series because I knew Jordan was going to retire if they’d won… was hoping he would come back for one more season

Even his final shot is the GOAT
I just noticed Dennis Rodman almost calling a timeout after Jordan's steal. What if...
What's better is how he purposely ran across the paint to pull whoever that was out of a help position next to Karl Malone
There’s footage of Phil and MJ talking about this play before it happened. The Jazz were a little too predictable in their offense and both MJ and Phil knew this was the play they were gonna run. So Mike doesn’t leave the paint and was able to blindside Malone. I think Dennis instinctively went to make the t/o gesture, but realized that MJ was about to do what MJ does best.
Still remember this shot like yesterday. Watching it live on local TV but unfortunately as a casual fan I stopped watching NBA after MJ quit Bulls. I missed out Kobe, Shaq, and many more. Sorry not sorry
Same here, jordan quit bulls I quit watching nba too..

I've all overlooked the most important off ball movement in Chicago Bulls History.
We've all overlooked The BBall IQ of Dennis Rodman, drawing the defense out of the paint giving the best cluch player in NBA history His time to shine in The Last Dance.
Before that movement by Rodman, MJ and the rest of the team were trying to figure out how to play that last possession. Then the off the ball dive by the Worm gave him the opening he was looking for.
Rodman was a huge component to their success
100% agreed
great point. i didn’t notice that
Wow, great take! Didn't noticed it till I slowed down the entire play. MJ had the entire paint for his own after that crossover.
The story behind the last shot😭
Is there way to find the old seasons somewhere so we can watch it?I really want to see Michael Jordans three-peats
esse cara eh foda, cola aqui em Belford Roxo - RJ pra nos bater um mano a mano Jordan, to com a bola ja
Exactly 26 years ago today. The only chance Utah had in this situation was to double MJ and make him pass the ball. MJ shooting the last shot with a championship on the line just wasn't gonna miss.
He makes the shot to bring the Bulls back in the game, he steals the ball from Malone, and makes the game sealing shot. This is ALL IN ONE SEQUENCE.
In this moment anyone know shoes he's wear?
I still remember wearing my MJ jersey to school the next day. It was kind of a weirdly sad day because we all knew the ride was over.

What'd he have to be salty about. He dominated Jordan head to head.
