      It's also worth noting that she always had the ability to do those things. Not as blatantly and obviously as the other family members, of course, but her hidden gift has always been there. She's the next matriarch of the Madrigal family. The new casa? Yeah, that front door is Mirabel's door. She has the gift of familial love. The Madrigal family is *her* family, and she is the new keystone to hold them together. When Abuela Alma passes on, Mirabel will be there to keep the family strong.

    • @michaelklaus
      @michaelklaus Před rokem +8

      Especially since Mirabel sings she would make new trees and flowers grow... a tree grows tall and strong while a flower... well you can relate this directly to Luisa and Isabella and then to the following Madrigal generations. Indeed she already did with Antonio before this AND she already anticipated his gift with presenting him the plushy; something Alma never could.

      It’s even better than that.
      The production and the beat of this song is in 3/4, yes, but her actual vocal melody, “I can’t move the mountains, I can’t make the flowers bloom” is a polyrhythm. She’s singing two in the time of three.
      You could almost say She’s trying to force the 3/4 into a 4/4

    This movie moves Colombians, because one of the most emotional scenes in the film reminds us of the displacement and violence that many of us experience as a result of the wars between guerrillas, paramilitaries, drug traffickers and the government. It reminds us of how many of our families lost one of their pillars (Dad) and how Mom had to rebuild her family from the ashes after losing everything. Our grandmothers and mothers are heroines for Colombians, they gave everything to rebuild their families, and our country. That is why the role of the grandmother in this film is important because thanks to all her sacrifices to her great strength, our house is being rebuilt, our beautiful home Colombia.

  • @revelle8605
    @revelle8605 Před 2 lety +75

    A stunning and heart-wrenching song. Personally, I feel like this song ties into the same self-transformation theme as Dos Oruguitas--Mirabel has been stuck at that door for so long, stuck in her chrysalis, waiting and waiting to change and grow. This song is telling the story of how she is finally ready to burst out of that stifling chrysalis, to spread her wings and show this family who she is and what she can do; it is especially a struggle for her as a part of the family Madrigal, since the magic powers her family members got made it seem like it was a cinch for them all to find who they are and know their purpose in life. It made it seem like they didn't have to struggle to come out of their chrysalises, fully realized beings. Of course, she's wrong about this; as she learns through the movie, the powers of her family members don't define who they are under the surface, and Mirabel ultimately doesn't actually need magic to find herself.
    The miracle she's pleading for isn't magic, in the end; it's that she grow into her whole and unabashed self. This sentiment is reiterated in the song All Of You--"the miracle is not, any magic that you've got, the miracle is you." To grow and transform into your true self, that's the real miracle.

  • @Drake844221
    @Drake844221 Před 2 lety +19

    In the end, she does move the mountains... opening the Encanto's valley to the outside world again. She gets NEW trees and flowers to grow by opening Isabella up to all of the wild possibilities at her fingertips. She does heal what's broken _by_ showing her family something new. All of these "I would" statements... she does them.

  • @Fool_ish
    @Fool_ish Před 2 lety +23

    that line about the unspoken invisible pain waiting on a miracle makes it sound like she's describing herself: a madrigal that no one sees, no one hears, no one knows but is still there like a pain, a burden

    I love that when she’s begging her abuela to see her, she’s not talking directly to her, even in her thoughts/the song’s imagery. She circles around talking to and about the rest of her family right there in the moment, but for what she wants to say to Abuela, it’s only to her door. To the image of her that’s on the door, even if it does come to life. It shows how repressive the love and respect for her has become…

    @suchendelokidottir5673 Před 2 lety +38

    My stupid Encanto theory. I think her gift was withheld until this moment because no five year old could handle it. Notice how immediately after she starts to see the cracks in her family and getting them to open up and heal. She was super empathetic, but she wasn't doing that before right at this moment. I think the cracks disappeared so quickly because at that time they were symbolic, not yet actual.

    When she says that she can't stand another night up in her room, you can notice that she is in the shadows of her family. Meaning she isn't seen by the village as her family is. Try to think of them as trees. The sunlight is the attention and praise you receive, the family is the ones getting that attention, but she isn't noticed for how she grows under her family's shadow.

    6:00- Little note on this, Columbia has historically been very Catholic. And there is a very unspoken but present religious influence in the film (which makes sense since this is in the mid 1950s). And as the song goes on, she uses the pronoun ‘you’ and even says, ‘bless me now as you’ve blessed us all those years ago’, suggesting that she is begging God for a chance to be useful to her family. I think that this makes it even sadder as a song as she is basically begging God to make her worthy of her family’s love and acceptance.

      The group's Voiceplay, and they ARE INCREDIBLE!! They do an incredible version of We Don't Talk About Bruno.

      @@parkerbrown-nesbit1747 I mean a few members of Voiceplay helped make Pattycake Productions but its a channel all on its own that does musical stories

    Fun fact, while recording this song, the artist didn't tell anyone she had gone into labor because she didn't want to have to reschedule.

    God if this song doesn’t hit as someone who doesn’t seem to be the one sibling who has it together. May be the older sibling, but my younger sister has it much more controlled. I’m not jealous of her, but damn if I don’t wish I was like her, seemingly having it together. I’m not fine. I’m not fine, like Mirabel says.

    How did no one notice that this song was in 6/8 time not 3/4! 🥲 it’s 1-2-3-4-5-6- not 1-2-3-1-2-3- I do love you’re music breakdown videos though!!!

    Something I noticed is when Mirabel sings in the beginning, her voice is more nasally, like she's holding her voice back cause she's unsure of herself or of such. In this song she kinda let's it out in some parts but its mostly nasally throughout the song like the first song. In the last song her voice is more in her chest, I think. Like she's let go, she's accepted herself and she's happy
