Scott Stapp struggled with addictions and in 2015 was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, so I have been praying for him when I heard of his troubles, it is great he is getting help, but there is no denying his writing ability and Creed's talent! Love the music!
Scott had heard mark tremonti the guitarist play the riff during a jam session. the guitarist mark said in an interview he always had the riff in the back of his head. And when Scott had heard the riff he immediately wanted to write to it
Higher, Arms Wide Open and My Sacrifice are 3 of the greatest songs in music history. They possess a purpose and thanksgiving for the appreciation of life's greatest value and praise goes out to Scott and the band as a whole. I so love this band🤗, I kinda knew you had probably heard them before. When I lost my dad I played this album, "Are You Ready (especially, like almost on a loop, I swear), "What If, Never Die, Arms Wide Open, Higher." The songs just spoke to me during that very distraught time, I also played Match Box 20, "Bent",.Don't know what is was about those two bands, it just helped, still helps, I didn't even play any gospel, during that time, I don't know, Rock , I just gravitated to Rock, and really Creed and MB20 had the soul spirituality in there somewhere that reached me. It's all gifts from God anyway, whether its Shirley Ceasar, Yolanda Adams,.Kirk Franklin,.Mahalia Jackson, or Queen, Peter Frampton, Creed, Rush, the soul and spirituality is in there, it's projected out, that's why music moves us, no matter who you are or where your from. On the surface this song appears to have Christian overtones, in fact many of their song touch on religion..but what most people are not aware of is that Scotf says he wrote this during his experimentation with Lucid dreaming to help him deal with a recurring nightmare. Unfortunately, because of Scott's antics this band gets lumped in with the Nickelback jokes. Creed's lyrics go much deeper and have substance. Thanks for checking them out and hopefully you get to experience more of their great music in the future (e.g. Faceless Man).
