It's not matriarchal It's matrilinial system that we follow in mangalore.The head of the family is male only just that the lineage is transferred to the daughters/sisters son.I am also from mangalore and the system is different from what its mentioned here.The bride goes to husbands house. It's just that her family identity doesn't change and neither does his.Also the dowry was given by girls side only and not vice versa.
