80年代のFM音源はまさにオーパーツ
You can tell ujiie really loves the dx7, his playing gets so soulful and expressive when he plays one
I am glad I wasn't the only one who noticed this. He goes into another dimension.
Because Ujiie-san was deeply involved in developing/sound programming for many great old Yamaha synths and the DX-series as well.
The 80's pop music never exist without DX7
エレピの音が綺麗すぎて癒される。ずーっと聴いていたい音。
Yamaha DX7 and DX7II still have some of the more beautiful sounds ever. Since the early eighties till 2022 there's not other synth with a better sound for romantics songs than super sweet DX7's electric piano. There were lots of imitations from every Korg, Roland, Kurzwel, Kawai, Casio, etc. etc. But nothing better than the original.
The DX7 has been completely reverse-engineered, down to the quarter-sine lookup table. The only part that can't be perfectly recreated in software is the shoddy 12-bit DAC!
人生で二番目のシンセ。これが始まりでした。友達に借りたRX17のドラム以外は全部これの手弾きダビングで賄っていました。とても幸せでしたね。ハードウェアのシンセってやっぱり燃えるわね。マレットブラス懐かしいやんか。（が、手放した。。。。This was my second synth (the first being CS30) and with this I started everything. I overdubbed all parts except for borrowed RX17 for drums and was very happy.
Peak Japanese creativity and industrial engineering, DX7 sounds still are magical.

I've had this keyboard for around a year now. Not only is it built like a tank, but the feel of the keys is amazing. When you get better at programming sounds there is lots of fun to be had.
They charged a LOT for it back in the 80's it should be....
Last time I played one of these was 1988 at music college. I still remember that sweet keyboard action.
I got into synths as a teenager just before the DX7II and D-50 were launched. Analog seemed so ancient to 15 year old me and the era of black Yamaha and Roland boxes with backlit LCD’s felt so modern and cutting edge! Such a great time to discover electronic music from ‘86 onwards! I’m on my third DX7IIFD now.
And now, people crave new analog synths. 👍
People from that age (like me) crave for analogue , true natural vibration sound , without the chopped up virtual Ad/ da converters . You can see and hear the player “ attack” the keyboard trying to get that deep strong choppy sound , which de dx7 can’t make . But the original fender Rhodes do ! I should never have sold my alpha Juno 2

It's such a responsive synth and I love how he can really shred on it. Great use of FX too.
Electric Pianos are the main reason I love 80's and early 90's music so much. People just don't play them anymore.
ＦＭ音源独特の音がたまらなく心地良いですね。
ＰＣ－８８０１系やＰＣ－９８０１系のＦＭ音源ではオペレーターが４つでしたが、色々試行錯誤しながら音を作っていた記憶があります。
当時からＦＭ音源の音が好きだという自覚はありましたが、今聞いてもやっぱり良いですね。
エフェクトでこんなに変わる……こんなに良くなるというのは初めて知ったので驚きました。

I just bought a cassette player last week so was able to hear my old 4 track productions featuring a DX7 I got when they came out, it really was magical compared to the Roland and Korg analog synths of the day, although now all are appreciated for their own qualities.
Yeah now it sounds mostly cheesy in most 80s pop songs, but when you program some sounds yourself and add some modulated delay and reverb it's amazing!

What a beast. I have the impression that the polyphonic capabilities of the DX family have overshadowed it's power as a lead synth. One can't resist playing chords on it, but the solo notes are as great as in analog synths, we just rarely get to hear them. (and, yes, modulation is limited).
DX7 was popular for solos combined with the chromatic pitch bend especially flute type of sounds (e.g. Debarge). But couldn't quite produce fat wider lower frequency analog sounds (that's where the D-50 later was more versatile).

The best synth when using with the 3 classic effectts, chorus, delay, reverb.

My favorite synthesizer Yamaha DX7
I have a DX7 II FD with the floppy disk and the larger keybed and she's a grand old girl. The keybed makes a bit of noise when playing, but it's still solid, the aftertouch still works a treat, and it's never given me a moments trouble or broken. It's cool having multi timbral keyboard splits and stuff too letting you perform with more flexibility. It was a little bummer that Yamaha changed the cartridge slot between the original DX7 and the DX7II but the old carts still fit if you use an adapter.

Ujie is such a master, I've been watching his videos almost 15 years now, his creativity and love for playing and joyful energy never fails to brighten up my day!! Even a soulless machine like DX7 he can turn into a dream machine, some creative effects and amazing playing. Theres nothing he can't play!!
A reissue of the dx7f2d with 4 encoders for onboard effects, breath control is warrented,same construction, same buttons, nacelle,add different waves for the operators.
Simply Amazing! when one is into a certain subject, I can suddenly understand Japanese! Arigato!!

エフェクターも進化したものだとつくづく思う。
デジタルディレー単体で15万20万してた物が、デジタルリバーブが10万を切った時も衝撃的でしたが、それがマルチ化し、コンパクト化しと『時代は進む』を改めて実感します。
名前は出せないけど某楽器屋は、シンセには必ずコーラス系とリバーブ系のエフェクターが繋いで有ったなぁ。
あれで、店頭で試し弾きして・・・買って帰った人は可哀想だなぁと思って見てた。酷い話ですわw
I still love those DX strings. There is like a smear, that you can’t get with detuned saws or PWM.

Sure the presets sound dated, but the more obscure patches he uses here sound modern to me. I think the DX is still just as relevant now as it was in 1983. It's all about the creativity of the user.
That's it really, only the fact that we _know_ the presets from pop songs make them sound outdated. Give this machine some other patches and it still sounds 'unheard' and fresh. Successors like the opsix confirm that there really isn't anything outdated about FM.

I honestly wish I bought this keyboard instead of the original Yamaha DX7.
Id Love to see what you would do, if you add an analog Distortion Pedal into the mix (electric guitar type sounds and effects). The DX7 and IID sounds and capabilities... are magical, and Timeless.
