      well it would have taken them more than 2 weeks i doubt they spent very long on it. Most of the time would have been artists making the few new models that were needed for story characters that didnt have HD sprites. Everything else is copy and pasted from D5 and Disgaea PC

    I feel a bit bad since I agree and wish it had more than what was included in the PC version, especially in regards to the cheat shop. D1 with evilities and even just a new tie in to DD2 would be nice.
    The reason I feel awful is that I cant say I regret the special edition, and playing it on the switch so far has gotten me hooked yet again. I do hope they dont stop bringing more Disgaea to switch, but I wish they learn from this and see that they should really try a bit harder.

    I'm disappointed they didn't add in any new characters or bosses/fights in this. At the very least, you should be able to get Aramis in your party...you can in other games, and this is the one he came from. The limited edition seems cool just because of all the bonus stuff, but the base game (for now) seems overpriced, being that the only thing in it over the PC version (I already own) is the upgraded graphics...unless the patch in more stuff I'm going to wait for the price to drop.

    This is sadly exactly what I expected from this version of the game after seeing trailers. Certainly won't be buying this but it may be nice to anybody who hasn't played it or wants a portable Switch version. Great review but damn, I have been bitter at NIS for a while waiting for Disgaea 5 PC and after seeing this cash grab.

  • @z-saber
    @z-saber Před 5 lety +1

    When I saw the first trailers of the game, I already kinda knew that I am not getting this. I've played enough Disgaea 1 already, and just a fresh coat of paint with HD sprites won't make me interested. Especially when the animations haven't been updated with them. It just won't look good when just the sprites are updated and the animations aren't. And of course the lack of quality-of-life updates. I really expected this to be a full remake of the original with all kind of new features from the newest games and even add some new ones. But without any of those, I don't see the reason why to even bother making this, and releasing in this price. Disgaea 1 has been re-released enough as it is. Well, I'll just keep on waiting for Disgaea 6 (which is hopefully already well into development). I am still a big fan of the series and greatly enjoyed Disgaea 5, so I still have a lot of hype for this series. I wouldn't even mind getting another direct sequel -type game like Disgaea D2, I'd really like to play another chapter in Adell and Rozalin's story!
    By the way, that "Disgaea PC" text in the credits was just a cherry on top. I guess it proves that this game was made from that version?

    • @Primalliquid92
      @Primalliquid92  Před 5 lety +1

      Yea it seems to just be a copy and paste of disgaea PC with model/texture updates. Honestly speaking a simple modder could turn disgaea PC into this once disgaea 5 comes out on PC. He would simply need to steal the models/sprites from that and create a new texture dump and boom Disgaea 1 complete.

    • @z-saber
      @z-saber Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah, and another thing that clashes here is the artwork. The art style of the series has changed over time (I actually think the biggest difference was between Disgaea 1 and 2). Sprites and character portraits are directly from the newer games but the story "visual novel" scenes still use those original drawings from PS2 era. It makes a very inconsistent look.

      To tell the truth the only new Disaea game I liked was Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness. Mostly as it was much easier to play and beat then 4 and 3. I still have 3 and 4 that I am more or less working on beating. Not really caring about beating everything in 3 and 4 like I did in D2 but for Baul. D2 Baul is a monster and experience in pain to do on yourself when it has nearly no purpose other then the achiement trophy on your PS3. D2 is at least fun to play with and the cheat shop making grinding fun again.... I would 5 but I hear it might only have a good story as the system is a little weird I hear compared to older Digaea games. Hell I have a guide on it but I still have not bought the game as I am not getting a PS4 until later or until Christmas.

  • @tyrant-nephilimasukara6912

    Sad to hear this, as I def wont be buying it as there were no real upgrades from the first, just an hd remaster of the first with no new content seperating it from the other remasters. I love disgaea and all, but I feel like this was just a cash grab for people new to the franchise and it also feels lazy. Imagine how much better it could've been if they added all the new features from the 5th game and maybe even some new content as well, maybe a better version of the DD2 rasetsu mode? or D5s stat boosting method and then they added even more post game content leading up to baal? like Laharl is bored of ruling his netherworld so he adventures into a bunch of different ones, similar to how they did in D5 with the planets n stuff, so he meets some of the overlords from the future/past games, perhaps it's a sort of crisis where Baal is trying to take over all the netherworlds so all the main chars from the previous/future games have to stop him OR how bout Laharl meets a time wizard/sage whatever and they let him go back to fight in past battles that they werent there for allowing you to change history for the better or worse leading to alternate endings. I want a disgaea game where it matters who you let live and who you slay, like the ability to be a good overlord or a bad one, you could even let people have their own CaC, you pick from 2 genders and a basic class of your choice like Warrior, Healer, Archer, Mage that you could change in game(not without some in game currency like mana or HL) and you would have this system with your CAC where you upgrade their class paths to unlock different classes, like a Warrior can become a samurai or ninja, Mages could change what kind of magic they do, like debuffs or elemental dmg and what kind of element they use, Healers could be focused on different types of healing like SP healing, HP healing, Ailment/Debuff removal/prevention or being buffers and Archers could get different element dmg as well, maybe different kinds of targeting with basic atks like an arrow that goes through other units infront/behind it or an arrow that hits AoE dmg when it hits or even like poison arrow/debuff arrows, they can be already made chars or let us create them from scratch. There's so much potential/possibilities with this series and I wish they'd go nuts with it.

    • @magusdeath1409
      @magusdeath1409 Před 5 lety

      You kind of just described Makai Kingdom, LOL.... That was a fun NIS game. Zetta was the main character but you didn't play as him, you just used allies he created as his soldiers out of items! The item you create them from would give different stat boosts to the character. And the fun thing was you could fight with anything! I could fight with a piece of a rock or a even gattling gun! It has bases you could put on the battle field to help you, there even was a instant level up trick with one base if you did the trick right with a enemy and a ally in the base. It was unique game and fun on the PS2.

    The whole thing is a massive idiot ball, in the end.
    Disgaea 1 Complete would have been much better received if it had been offered as a texture pack DLC for Disgaea PC instead. Since that's just about all they felt like doing. It would have saved them time, too, and let them actually make sprites for some of the classes they were too lazy to make.
    In any case, I hope that how poorly D1C was received overall teaches NISA a valuable lesson about remaking games: They need to have effort put into them.

    • @Primalliquid92
      @Primalliquid92  Před 5 lety +1

      Problem is they cant sell a Texture pack at full retail price so they just copied and pasted Disgaea PC and called it a whole new game. D1C was also received very very poorly in japan so this should teach them a lesson however honestly Nis has been lazy for a very long time now and they just keep pumping out half hearted titles.

    • @MrJoeyWheeler
      @MrJoeyWheeler Před 5 lety

      That is quite true. I am glad to hear it did poorly in Japan, since there's usually a massive disconnect between the western audience and the (frankly lower-standard-expectations) native Japanese audience.
      I'm just going to keep sitting and waiting for Disgaea 5's PC port to FINALLY get released.
      This month.
      Hopefully.
      I think what bugs me most about the sprite changes in D1C is the male healer. I hate the D2/5 male healer with his spider lotus trap design. I miss the earlier models which were identifiably male healers.

    • @Primalliquid92
      @Primalliquid92  Před 5 lety

      The main reason it did poorly in japan is because they themselves are actually tired of all the constant remakes for Disgaea 1. None of them ever bring any real changes and are simply cash grabs because they all release at pull price (Apart from disgaea PC) This was the final nail in the coffin i think, after this i dont see them trying a remaster for a long long time. Atleast not at a full retail price point anyway.

      I mean, I agree that "Disgaea 1 Complete" was rather lazily handled. For a grand remaster of the first game, you'd think a bit more would have been done with it, like preventing impossible item world maps from generating at the very least. But that's basically it.
      Since "Disgaea 5", they have released "proper full" games.
      Off the top of my head, there's "Labyrinth of Refrain" and "Hundred Knight 2" which immediately come to mind. Then there's stuff that are Japan only like "Hakoniwa Company Works".
      Even then, to say their smaller/indie games are lazy is rather ridiculous. Just because they aren't as grand or expansive doesn't mean there wasn't a significant amount of effort and even budget placed into them. Heck, if anything, they've been branching out and experimenting more with different styles and genres. How is that lazy?
      Regarding the bugs, regardless of whether you are talking about NIS themselves or NISA, there have been a couple bugs here and there, mostly on the NISA side unfortunately. But "always completely full of bugs" is another claim I'm finding to be fairly exaggerated. Most of their games have been just fine as far as I can recall.
      I don't know, if you haven't liked anything they've done since "Disgaea 5", fine. But I just don't at all agree with that assertion that they've been lazy.

      I've liked a few things they have done since D5 but i still stand by my viewpoint. Translations are often terrible and almost everything NISA has ported over has had bugs/severe crashing. Hundred knight 2 like you said is a large game but upon release was bug filled and crashed very often. and sorry but labyrinth type games really dont require much effort outside of the initial artwork. i wouldnt be surprised if they were made by less than a dozen people. As i said the last game i played from them that didnt have bugs was Disgaea 5. Everything else has been varying levels of messy from annoyance to full blown constant crashing.
